Last day of the MLB season

We've got some meaningful games going on.

I'll try and explain how this is going to shake out:

In the American League Central, Detroit needs a win or a Minnesota loss to clinch the division. Detroit is currently leading 7-4 in their game against Kansas City while the Twins are trailing the White Sox 1-0.

If Detroit wins they are the division champions and host the Athletics in the first round while the Twins are the wild card and would play the Yankees in round 1. If Minnesota wins and Detroit loses then the scenarios are flipped.

In the National League a lot more needs to be decided.

The National League central is still up for grabs. St. Louis can clinch with a win or a Houston loss. The Cardinals are trailing Milwaukee early and the Astros are trailing the Braves so the Cardinals are fans of John Smoltz right about now. The fact that the Braves winning would help St. Louis who I hate makes me want to cheer against them for the first time ever.

In the National League West the Dodgers and Padres are tied atop the division. Both teams are in the playoffs. The Dodgers need a Padre loss and a win of their own against San Francisco to take the division. A San Diego win and a Dodger win and the Padres are champion by virtue of a tie breaker. Same if both teams lose.

Due to the fact that the division champion has not been determined and due to the fact that the Central champion has not been determined, the playoff matchups have not been determined. If I had to guess, I'd say West champ plays Central champ and The Mets will host the Wildcard winner.

The Corner will have full postseason coverage with myself and hopefully Steve chyming in on all the happenings.
