CARE/Other Vuz, Vuz, Vuz/ Jabronis: UFC 67 'All or Nothing' Roundtable
It is fitting that this show is called all or nothing because it looks like Travis Lutter is going to get nothing. It is now time for the roundtable...
UFC 67 ‘All or Nothing’
02/03/2006
Pay Per View Broadcast begins at 10 PM Eastern
The Mandalay Bay Events Center, Las Vegas Nevada
As we look at the first UFC Pay Per View event of the year, it is time once again to take a look at the standings. While this is the first UFC PPV of the year, it is the second UFC event so lets take a look at where everyone stands.
After our first UFC card, Fight Night Live 8 this is what it looks like.
Ric: 1 event, 7 wins, 1 loss for 87.5%
Wade: 1 event, 6 wins, 2 losses for 75%
Scott: 1 event, 5 wins, 3 losses for 62.5%
Casey: 1 event, 4 wins, 4 losses for 50%
Art: 1 event, 4 wins, 4 losses for 50%
Euan: 1 event, 4 wins, 4 losses for 50%
Marcus: 1 event, 3 wins, 5 losses for 37.5%
Now that we’ve dealt with UFC specifically, a reminder of the Overall standings so you can better decide who you should listen to and who you should sling rotten tomatoes at.
Overall Standings…4 Events total
Wade: 3 Events, 14 wins, 7 losses for 66.6%
Ric: 4 Events, 17 wins, 11 losses for 60.7%
Scott: 3 Events, 12 wins, 9 losses for 57.1%
Marcus: 3 Events, 12 wins, 9 losses for 57.1%
Casey: 4 Events, 13 wins, 15 losses for 46.4%
Art: 4 Events, 11 wins, 16 losses for 40.7%
Euan: 4 events, 10 wins, 17 losses for 37.0%
Lightweight Bout (Dark):
Diego "The Octapus" Saraieva: 24, 155, 8-3-1 Last UFC Bout: This is his UFC Debut.
vs.
Dustin Hazelett: 20, 6’1, 156, 9-3-0
Last UFC Bout: Ortiz/Shamrock III the Final Battle (10/10/06) lost to Tony DeSouza via submission at 3:59 of Round 1.
Casey: This was originally supposed to be Hazelett Vs. Melvin Guillard, so Saraieva is taking this fight on pretty short notice. That doesn’t do him many favors in my eyes, neither does the fact that Hazelett is about 7 inches taller than him. I’m going to give this 1 to Hazelett just based on those 2 points. Also, he wins the fight because Euan’s comment is just too funny for him not to win.
Winner: Dustin Hazelett
Art: I'm not familiar with either fighter, both have similar records and it seems this fight will go to the ground. From other fight info I saw on Hazelett I'm going with him for a first-round submission win.
Winner: Dustin Hazelett
Ric: Saraieva took this fight on short notice, but conditioning shouldn't be a problem for him, because he was originally contracted by the UFC to be a substitute opponent for Hermes Franca (when it was thought Spencer Fisher would have to pull out). The bigger question, in my mind, will be how Hazelett fares as a lightweight. If Hazelett comes in shape and ready to go, he should be able to take this.
Winner: Dustin Hazelett
Euan: Is the UFC doing midget fights now? Hazelett is 7 inches higher than Saraieva so he will have to duck or punch down from the heavens to hit him. I wonder since God didn't show up for WWE he might grace UFC with his presence and help Saraieva overcome "David"? Now i know you are saying "Wasn't Goliath the giant?" so allow me to explain. Throughout my travels as a Nomad, i have been many places and heard many incarnations of Bible Stories which do not agree with the conventional versions. Now i have settled, so i wanted to share a piece of what i have found out in my travels. Well, since Test still has a job with WWE that is proof there is no God so Hazellett wins this fight.
Winner: Dustin Hazelett
Scott: Diego wants to prove something in his UFC debut and taking the fight on short notice. Hazelett is looking to rebound from a loss in his last fight. Hopefully, the motivation to win leads to a good fight.
Winner: Dustin Hazelett
Wade: Winner: Dustin Hazelett
Marcus: Winner: Dustin Hazelett:
Lightweight Bout (Dark):
“The Answer” Frankie Edgar: 25, 5’6, 154, 5-0-0
Last UFC Bout: This is his UFC Debut
Vs.
Tyson Griffin: 22, 5’6, 156, 8-0-0
Last UFC Bout: UFC 63 (09/23/06) Defeated David Lee via Submission at 1:50 of round 1.
Casey: Frankie Edgar has quite the accomplished resume. I think that Tyson Griffin may have the advantage on the feet however. Frankie is a big fan of his own cardio which may play a role if this is a fast-pased fight. When asked what his favorite technique is Griffin said: “Putting people to sleep with my hands.” How do you not love that? This is 1 reason I’m taking the offspring of Mike Tyson and Peter Griffin to win. The other reason, it’s the name Frankie. I’m thinking its time for him to just be Frank.
Winner: Tyson Griffin
Art: Edgar may try and take this fight to the ground, if so Griffin can work with that strategy. I have a feeling Griffin will knockout Edgar before the fight goes to the ground.
Winner: Tyson Griffin
Ric: This should be an amazing fight!
Winner: Griffin's been here before, and I expect another win for him.
Euan: It's Frankie Edgar's debut in the UFC but i wonder what we can expect from a man who when asked what his favorite technique was he answered and i quote "Tenacity – I know it’s not a technique, but it is one of the most important traits that a fighter should have and it is cool to say." His opponent Griffin gave an interesting response to the same question answering " Putting people to sleep with my hands." Is he a masseuse outside of the Octagon? I guess we will never know but if said hands are used, he will not have a problem dispatching Edgar,
Winner:Tyson Griffin
Scott: Lightweight fights are almost always entertaining and hopefully this will be no different.
Winner: Tyson Griffin
Wade: I think Octagon experience is helpful, so I will go with that for the time being.
Winner: Tyson Griffin
Marcus: Winner: Tyson Griffin
Middleweight Bout (Dark):
Terry Martin: 28, 5’8, 186, 16-2-0
Last UFC Bout: UFC 59 (04/15/06) lost to Jason Lambert Via Referee stoppage at 2:37 of round 2.
Vs.
“El Conquistador” Jorge Rivera: 34, 6’1, 185, 14-5-0
Last UFC Bout: Ultimate Fighter 4 Finale (11/11/06) defeated Edwin DeWees via TKO at 2:37 in Round 1.
Casey: The true battle is between Terry Martin and Scott Smith for the most ordinary name on this show. Martin is 0-2 in his UFC career so far. I think both men will be happy to stand on the feet and Martin has all but said he’s looking for a round 1 KO. I think that strategy may cost him the fight, just because committing yourself to something like that could lead to a mistake being made. I’m not saying it will happen, but we’ll see.
Winner: Jorge Rivera
Art: Both men have similar fight records and have won a lot with
knockouts so hopefully this is an action-packed strike-fest. I'm rooting for Rivera.
Winner: Jorge Rivera
Ric: If Rivera loses this one, he's as good as gone from the UFC.
Winner: Jorge Rivera
Euan:This could be very interesting with both fighters preferring to stand and trade punches so this could turn into a battle of the chins. Martin's recent record is not great with his last two fights being stopped in the 2nd round while Rivera is coming off a win at TUF 4 finale 3 and a win here could see him fighting on the PPV card next time round.
Winner: Jorge Rivera
Scott: This could be a good fight standing up.
Winner: Jorge Rivera
Wade: Winner: Terry Martin
Marcus: Winner: Terry Martin
Light Heavyweight Bout (DARK):
“The Alaskan Assassin” Sam Hoger: 26, 6’3, 205, 6-2-0
Last UFC Bout: Fight Night 4 (04/06/06) Lost to Rashad Evans via Split Decision at 3:00 of Round 3.
Vs.
Lyoto Machida: 28, 6’1, 203, 8-0-0
Last UFC Bout: This is his UFC Debut.
Casey: In my view Machida is somewhat of an inigma. He has wins over the likes of Stephan Bonnar, Rich Franklin and B.J. Penn. However, Franklin and Bonnar were in 2003 and Penn was in 2004 so you’ve got to weigh those factors in. I think this will be a good test for him in the UFC but I don’t see the Alaskan Assassin Assassinating Machida on this night.
Winner: Lyoto Machida
Art: Hoger's had consecutive wins until his loss to Bonnar at Fight
Night 4, he then beat Jeff Newton at UFC 56 and recently lost to Evans. I watched a Machida fight on YouTube and Machida has the potential to wear Hoger down with low kicks and possibly be able to knock him out with a high kick and/or a decent combination of punches.
Winner: Lyoto Machida
Ric: Tough fight to call. Hoger never seems to get the respect he deserves, while Machida's looking to prove himself to the mainstream audience, both of which can serve as great motivators. On paper, Machida should be able to take this, but nothing would surprise me.
Winner: Ryoto Machida (but something tells me I could receive a rude awakening).
Euan:I am going to give this to Machida and here is why: check out this schedule he gave UFC.com
Nuff said.
Winner:Lyoto Machida
Scott: The Light Heavyweight division is probably the deepest in UFC, with only Welterweight coming close. This may also be my personal favorite division. I’m going to award this one strictly on the nickname, which means…
Winner: Sam Hoger
Wade: This is one of the fights I simulated on NHB Fighting Simulator so I'll go with who won there.
Winner: Lyoto Machida
Marcus: Winner: Lyoto Machida
Middleweight Bout:
Patrick “The Predator” Cote: 26, 5’11, 185, 9-4-0
Last UFC Bout: Ultimate Fighter 4 Finale (11/11/06) lost to Travis Luter via Submission at 2:18 in Round 1.
Vs. “Hands of Steel” Scott Smith: 27, 6’0, 185, 12-2-0
Last UFC Bout: Ultimate Fighter 4 Finale (11/11/06) Defeated Pete Sell Via TKO at 3:25 in round 2.
Casey: Scott Smith is in a close battle with Terry Martin for most ordinary name on the show although the nickname does help him. I will never forget the finish to the Pete Sell Vs. Scott Smith fight as long as I live. I will also remember Cote tapping to Travis Lutter but not nearly as much. They both consider Randy Couture to be a hero and there are worse choices for that distinction. Smith may be a better wrestler though I’m not so sure, and Cote is probably the better submission fighter. On the feet I’m going to give this one to Scott Smith and as a result I’ll give him the fight.
Winner: Scott Smith
Art: If it goes to the ground it's Cote's victory but I hope it's a slugfest and Smith punches the hell out of Cote.
Winner: Scott Smith
Ric: This fight has "slobberknocker" potential. Cote has the experieince edge, and is probably better on the ground, but Smith is young, strong, young and strong, and is underrated when it comes to his work on the ground.
Winner: I think I'm going with Smith.
Euan:Once again the "What's your favorite technique?" question is helping me choose winners which is handy since i didn't see the TUF 4 finale show and therefore missed these fighters last bouts. Scott Smith didn't understand the question as instead of giving a single technique he gave three while Patrick Cote answered "The old fashioned punch in the mouth technique" A great answer from a great man.
Winner: Patrick Cote
Scott: The finish to Scott Smith’s last fight was awesome! Both of these men are out to make a move up the middleweight rankings.
Winner: Scott Smith
Wade: Another NHB simulated match
Winner: Patrick Cote
Marcus: Winner: Scott Smith
Light Heavyweight Bout:
Marvin “The Beastman” Eastman: 37, 5’9, 203, 13-6-1
Last UFC Bout: UFC 50 (10/22/04) Lost to Travis Luter Via KO at 0:33 of round 2.
Vs.
Quinton “Rampage” Jackson: 28, 6’1, 205, 25-6-0
Last UFC Bout: This is his UFC Debut
Casey: This is actually a rematch of Eastman’s first pro fight in which he was victorious over Rampage way back in 2000. The hope is that Rampage will be able to avenge this loss and that will put him in line for a shot at Chuck Liddell and the Light Heavyweight championship. Jackson likes to use his strength and slam people. I am partial to Jackson in this fight because he is 8 years younger and he is a great man for other reasons. When asked if he went to college and what degree he got Jackson responded: “Yes, I got a da kick out degree.” I love this man. On another note, what is with so many of these guys working construction?
Winner: Quinton Jackson
Art: I cannot wait to see Rampage in the octagon, this should be a great fight. Expect to see Rampage powerslamming Eastman into the mat several times, Rampage will definitely avenge his early loss to Eastman in his UFC debut.
Winner: Quinton “Rampage” Jackson
Ric: Jackson and his then-girlfriend once offered to let me touch her ass, and it was a nice ass! Plus, we smoked some killer weed... I mean, trained together a time or two, so he wins just for that.
Winner: Vorze dan Mikail Jackson
Euan:I have seen Quinton Jackson in PRIDE a few times and he is a wacky individual but i have to paste his entire interview from UFC.com because i laughed
my ass off just reading it.
The King Booker of MMA? I guess we will see. His opponent Marvin Eastman hasn't fought in the UFC since 2004 so i'm guessing he is being used as the stepping stone opponent for Jackson. Providing the correct Quinton Jackson turns up on Saturday night, Jackson will easily defeat this man.
Winner: Quinton Jackson
Scott: I’ve heard lots of good things about Rampage but have never seen him. I hope he lives up to the hype, which is not what happened with the last man I heard good things about, Heath Herring.
Winner: Quinton Jackson
Wade: This one is simple. There is no way Eastman is walking out of this match without assistance
Winner: Quinton Jackson
Marcus: Winner: Quinton Jackson
Heavyweight Bout:
Eddie “The Manic Hispanic” Sanchez: 24, 6’2, 229, 8-0-0
Last UFC Bout: UFC 63 (09/23/06) Defeated Mario Neto Via KO at 0:17 in Round 2.
Vs.
Mirko Cro Cop: 32, 6’2, 223, 21-4-2
Last UFC Bout: This is his UFC Debut
Casey: Seriously, is anyone outside of the immediate family of Eddie Sanchez predicting a win for him here? This is step one in Mirko Cro Cop’s quest to clenze the Heavyweight division. Yes, I know he kind of looks like Lance Storm but that’s not exactly an insult.
Winner: Mirko Cro Cop
Art: A friend of mine in California knows Sanchez and I told her that Cro Cop was going to beat him. However I didn't say HOW BAD it would be, all we need to see is that patented Cro Cop high kick ("Greetings From Croatia"?) knock Sanchez's head clean off of his shoulders. Again I'm excited to see Cro Cop in UFC and I'd like to see a somewhat competitive fight here.
Winner: Mirko Cro Cop
Ric: RIP: Eddie Sanchez
Winner: Mirko Cro Cop
Euan:It's Mirko!
Winner: CroCop by kicking Sanchez in the head.
Scott: Mirko Cro Cop just has a cool name. Nothing else need be said here.
Winner: Mirko Cro Cop
Wade: There has been so much hype for Cro Cop that I'm sure he'll deliver. He's got a great win/loss record which is always good.
Winner: Mirko Cro Cop
Marcus: Winner: Mirko Cro Cop
Lightweight Bout:
“El Matador” Roger Huerta: 23, 5’9, 156, 17-1-1
Last UFC Bout: UFC 63 (09/23/06) Defeated Jason Dent Via Unanimous Decision at 5:00 in Round 3.
Vs.
John “The Hurricane” Halverson: 34, 5’9, 155, 13-4-0
Last UFC Bout: This is his UFC Debut
Casey: I’d like to note that this is another fight where someone has done construction work, where’s that dude from the Village people when you need him? Also, on this show we have The Hurricane, El Matador, The Conquistador, The Predator and The Beastman. Its like the WWF Jobber hall-of-fame has taken control of this event. Halverson has heavy hands but Huerta may be the better wrestler. I think that Huerta takes the fight but watch out if it remains standing for any serious length of time.
Winner: Roger Huerta
Art: Judging from what I've researched of both fighters' records I'm calling for Huerta to knockout Halverson.
Winner: Roger Huerta
Ric: Both guys have talent to spare, and a shitload of experience. Another fight, where anything can happen. I see this as both's chance to show the world they're ready to be a fucking star.
Winner: Huerta's explosive power should win this one for him in convincing fashion.
Euan:Ummmm...time for the EuTube index i think.
Roger Huerta - 3 videos
John Halverson - 3 videos
Shit! That didn't help me at all so let's flip a coin *flips coin* OK, it landed on heads so...
Winner: Roger Huerta
Scott: I don’t know much about either of these fighters, so its back to my awesome guessing strategy.
Winner: Roger Huerta
Wade: Once again, Octagon experience is key here so I'm basing my pick on that for now.
Winner: Roger Huerta
Marcus: Winner: Roger Huerta
Middleweight Bout:
Travis Lutter: 33, 5’11, 186.5, 12-3-0
Last UFC Bout: Ultimate Fighter 4 Finale (11/11/06) Defeated Patrick Cote via Submission at 2:18 in Round 1 to win the Middleweight Ultimate Fighter tournament.
Vs.
Anderson “Spider” Silva: 31, 6’0, 185, 17-4-0
Last UFC Bout: UFC 64 (10/14/06) Defeated Rich Franklin Via TKO at 2:59 in round 1 to capture the Middleweight title.
Casey: It sucks to be Travis Lutter. First a few fun facts, did you know that Lutter and I are from the same state? Did you know that we also went to the same University? though not at the same time.
Now for some interesting facts about Anderson Silva. He used to work at McDonalds, I’ll bet nobody ever came to complain to him that they got unwanted pickles. Also, he would like to 1-day fight a clone of himself just to see what its like, how can you not love this man? It sucks to be Travis Lutter because he couldn’t make weight so this is a non-title bout now. But, if that’s not bad enough he’s still going to get killed dead.
Winner: Anderson Silva
Art: So I just read that Lutter didn't make weight therefore the fight is non-title and a three-rounder. Doesn't really matter because Lutter wouldn't have won the title nor will it even go to two rounds.
Winner: Anderson “Spider” Silva
Ric: I like Lutter, but, ha, ha, ha, ha!
Winner: Anderson Silva
Euan: YAY! Anderson Silva is back to perform his unique brand of surgery on another unwitting victim. This is Silva's first title defence and it comes against the Middleweight Winner from The Ultimate Fighter Travis Lutter and i'm afraid that this is going to be a short fight as Silva is going to attempt to do what he did to Rich Franklin and his face again to further cement himself as the most dangerous middleweight fighter in MMA.
Winner: Anderson Silva
Scott: Silva…Silva…Silva! That’s what we’ll be saying after this fight is over and he kills Lutter.
Winner: Anderson Silva
Wade: Lutter might've fought harder if this match were for the Middleweight title.
Winner: Anderson Silva
Marcus: Winner: Anderson Silva
Casey: The OCC will have Live round-by-Round coverage starting at 10:00 PM ET. Euan will pop along with his thoughts on the show later in the week. Scott and Marcus will interject comments throughout the round-by-round, Wade will be sleeping as he has to work early Sunday…Panzy~!!! And even though he didn’t tell me, I’m guessing that Ric will have a recap over at CanvasChronicle shortly after the show ends.
Art: I will be watching this tonight however I will not be doing live coverage. Thoughts on the show will be posted at
Meanfilipine.Blogspot.com around 2AM EST.
Quick Picks: For a quicker reference for how our picks went, see this quick guide.
Dustin Hazelett Vs. Diego Saraieva - Unanimous, Hazelett

Q&A
Thoughts on opponent, Marvin Eastman? He’s a worthy adversary.
When and why did you start training for fighting? 2001 - so I could beat up folks without getting into trouble, and get paid for it.
What ranks and titles have you held? None
Do you have any heroes? Jesus Christ
What is your favorite technique? Power Bomb
What does it mean for you to fight in the UFC? It’s like going to the Super Bowl, baby.
Did you go to college and if so what degree did you earn? Yes, I got a da kick out degree.
What was your job before you started fighting? Construction man.
