Stevenson and Guillard talk some smack in the open and I love it.
The Palms Hotel and Casino plays host to this event.
Mike Goldberg and joe Rogan start off the show by talking about the Lightweights and mention Jens Pulver and B.J. Penn being involved at UFC 35.
Rogan says that the lightweights are very explosive.
We take looks at the advertised bouts including: Stevenson-Guillard, and McCully-Hardonk.
First though, it is Kenny Florian Vs. Dokonjonosuke Mishima.
Commercial Break!!!
I've decided that Kenny Florian's new nickname is .flo get it? Yes, it is going to be one of those recaps.
Bout 1: Dokonjonosuke Mishima Vs. Kenny .flo Florian
Referee: Big John McCarthy
Round 1: Florian looks in good shape coming in to the fight. Florian was on the bottom position for awhile, hit an upkick and then tried to go for a triangle. He then moved in to the top position.
This is a real quiet building, like there is no crowd at all.
Mishima is working hard to keep .flo from passing his guard. Florian has been the aggressor early in the fight.
Florian is landing some big rights from the top position and Mishima trying to cover up.
Fight back on the feet, Florian hits some kicks, Mishima tries the takedown and the round ends.
Scoring: 10-9 for Florian, he did more in the round.
Commercial Break!!!
Round 2: Florian starts out the round good and when Mishima slips to the ground he tries to take advantage.
Crowd a little bit more active in the second round.
Florian nails a nice kick to the body while Mike Goldberg plugs UFC 69. Florian is looking to take Mishima's back but Mishima is defending. He's doing a nice job of defending but he's got to start doing some offending, perhaps he needs to take lessons on how to offend from Euan?
Florian is nailing some devistating leg kicks and Krazy Horse has told us that those hurt like a "Motha-fucker ya'all".
Mishima finally starts responding as the round ends.
Scoring: Florian dominated the round but wasn't really close to finishing I didn't think so 10-9.
Commercial Break!!!
Round 3: Florian starts out round 3 with a big knee. Florian has a brother Keith, if his name is Keith-Flo I'll slaughter the family I'm thinking.
Mishima escapes from Florian's graspe and for his efforts gets to stand up and eat some more leg kicks.
Mishima has finally got Florian in a bad position. He's got Florian in a nice leglock and Florian is trying to fight it off and has been successful so far. He does manage to escape and get back on Mishima.
Now Mishima is the one in trouble and he looks to finish with a rear naked choke and he does. Florian escaped the Kneebar and was able to take control and got the submission with the choke.
Winner: Kenny Florian - 3:57 R3 Submission via Rear Naked Choke
Commercial Break!!!
Rogan is with Florian: Rogan points out the increase in his striking ability. He says he's been working hard on his Jiu-jitsu. He says we're going to see a new Kenny Florian. A change of nickname would be a welcome edition.
Rogan asks Florian how close he was to tapping. He says he was waiting for his knee to touch his ass and then he would've tapped. All the Japanese fighters have heart, well I'd hope that is true of more than the Japanese if they don't they would be dead.
UFC 69 promo.
Kit Cope is in some show that is now getting a plug. You'll pardon me if I sound less excited. Oh, I guess the show is the wide world of spike. I still guess I don't care.
Up Next it is Antoni Hardonk Vs. Justin McCully
Commercial Break!!!
Whenever I hear Hardonk's name I think Hard On, but I swear I'm not gay.
Bout 2: Antoni Hardonk Vs. Justin McCully
Referee: Herb Dean
The Tale of the Tape is brought to you by the Condemned. Let the UFC working with WWE rumors begin on sweetprowrestlingscoopz.com
Round 1: Hardonk is fighting out of Amsterdam, so let the 4-20 jokes begin.
Hardonk is a kickboxer and McCully wants to take him down because he's a wrestler.
Hardonk is backed up against the fense early. McCully then takes Hardonk down and is looking to land some elbows.
McCully says he learned a lot about being in the Octagon from Tito. Does that mean if he loses, he'll be able to complain and make excuses with the best of them?
Hardonk has hooked McCully in a very deep armbar and somehow McCully doesn't tap.
Scoring: Close round I think, giving it to Hardonk because he tried more stuff. 10-9
Commercial Break!!!
Round 2: Hardonk wants to stay standing but McCully takes him down with no trouble. Rogan: "Hardonk's takedown defense, not so hot."
McCully starts to rain down a few big shots. Rogan keeps pointing out that McCully's left arm is there for the taking but Hardonk is just not able to take it.
Hardonk is busted open now. McCully is just pounding and pounding away at Hardonk.
The second round comes to a close.
Scoring: This was definitely McCully's round 10-9. I thought you could make a case for either man in round 1 but not so in Round 2.
Commercial Break!!!
Round 3: Hardonk goes for the legkick and then McCully gets in close.
Hardonk is landing some nice combinations of knees and elbows but he's got to pull away from McCully. Then, McCully takes him down yet again and Hardonk has to get up because it is his only real shot.
1 minute left and it is all McCully. McCully will probably win a 30-27 decision in this fight.
Round 3 ends with McCully the clear victor.
Scoring: 10-9 McCully and I expect that even though I have it 29-28 that it will really be 30-27.
Winner: Justin McCully: 5:00 R3 via Unanimous decision (straight 30-27 decisions)
Commercial Break!!!
Rogan with McCully: He's been waiting 10 years to make his debut in the UFC. Had he not been out of fighting for 3 years, he might've not had to wait 10 years.
Still to come Joe Stevenson Vs. Melvin Guillard
Commercial Break!!!
After the break Rogan interviews Pulver and Penn. Jens says this ain't the WWE, this shit ain't fake. I love this man. He says Penn disrespected him. Jens says BJ never held the 155 pound title. Penn responds and says he's going to break Jens' shoulder. Pulver says he's got to take him down first and Penn says he's going to kick his ass. Ok, I now really want to see this season.
Bout 3: Nate Mohr Vs. Kurt Pellegrino
Referee: Herb Dean
Round 1: You can tell this is a dark mtch because there's like 3 people watching or something.
Pellegrino eats a couple of punches early and then starts to take control. Pellegrino ends up in side control, but Mohr got back to half guard.
Pellegrino hooks the ankle and Mohr taps out. Kurt "Angle" Pellegrion is the victor.
Winner: Kurt Pellegrino - 2:58 R1 Submission Anklelock
Rogan interviews Pellegrino and tells him about a booger hanging out of his nose. Ok, that was kind of weird. Kurt Pellegrino says that he and Hermes Franca will run the UFC. Franca will be the champ, and he'll be the #1 contender and they'll keep it that way forever. So, either the #1 contender will never earn a shot or else he's saying he can't beat Franca. In other words, he's an idiot.
Art, Ric and I are tied in our picks. A Stevenson win and it goes to Ric, a Guillard win and Art and I are co champs.
Commercial Break!!!
A commercial airs for Dana White Vs. Tito Ortiz next Thursday on Spike. Oops.
Bout 4: Joe Stevenson Vs. Melvin Guillard
Referee: Steve Mazagatti
Guillard does not touch gloves with Stevenson at first.
Round 1: Joe Daddy takes Guillard down and he taps Guillard in like 30 seconds.
Memo to ric, fuck off.
Winner: Joe Stevenson - 0:27 R1 Submission Guillotine Choke
Rogan with Stevenson: Stevenson is happy the fight went the way that it did, I'll bet. He thanks Jesus but not God or Mr. McMahon. Then he thanks the troops serving overseas.
Final thoughts after the last break.
This will rap up the live coverage.
My thoughts: The fights were ok but nothing great. The outcome of Stevenson-Guillard didn't surprise me other than how quick it happened.
