WWE RAW 5/21/07 "Day Old" Coverage

Hello and welcome to a special “Day Old” coverage edition of RAW. Based on what I saw in the 2nd hour it looks very good.

We start out with a video of the Lashley vs. McMahon’s and Umaga from Judgement Day. I saw the videos for Orton/HBK and Cena/Khali in the 2nd hour too.

Lashley has come out and challenged Vince to a streefight. Vince, Shane and Umaga are now out and stop at the top of the ramp. Vince’s hair has grown back fairly good. He tells Lashley no then says he will be facing The Blue Meanie for the ECW Title in a streetfight at One Night Stand. Shane grabs the mic from his father and hypes him up by listing a who’s who of past and present stars. Vince gets the mic back announces that Lashley must run a gauntlet to get his next title shot.

This is where a commercial break would go.

Ric Flair and Carlito have a rematch. Carlito’s chest still shows the effects of their Judgement Day match and Flair chops him some more to start. Carlito now in control and focusing on Flair’s arm and shoulder. Flair gets a foot on the ropes to break an arm submission then chops the crap out of Carlito again. Carlito goes for his springboard elbow but Flair ducks, chop blocks him then attempts a Figure Four but Carlito pokes him in the eye. Flair and Carlito fight to a double count out then Carlito beats Flair down on the outside and does his usual apple spitting in the face. Carlito was so close to the fans that we heard a fan tell him that she hopes he chokes on his apple.

Insert commercial here.

Candice Michelle is taking on Melina in a non-title match. I’m watching this with my 9-year old niece and she gives pretty good commentary on the Diva’s choice of attire. Melina has been in full control with some nice submissions but goes to the well once to often which allows Canidce to take control. Candice has improved greatly with those kicks and a good dropkick. Candice pins Melina withy an excellent bridge to get her another win. I was quite surprised to see Candice get a clean win.

Khali and his translator are arguing backstage.

Another commercial break here.

Video package of Austin going on various TV shows talking about his film. Guess they ran out of things to do with actual footage of the film.

Lashley takes on Chris Masters in the first gauntlet match. Masters moves out of the way in the turnbuckle and Lashley shoulder blocks the turnbuckle. Masters locks in the Masterlock early on but Lashley gets in the ropes for the break. Lashley with a big powerslam for 2 then scores with the spear for the win.

The World’s Greatest Tag Team are out for commentary on The Hardys’ match against Kenny Dykstra and Johhny Nitro. Nitro and Dykstra are in control early on but Matt comes back and tags in Jeff who gets 2. Jeff goes up top, Dysktra tries to distract him but Matt takes him out which allows Jeff to pin Nitro. WGTT jump The Hardys but Cade and Murdoch come out for the save .

This is where I fast forwarded through commercials.

The Great Khali and his translator have come out. Khali says that he was cheated last night and that he has never submitted in his life because his foot was under the ropes. Khali also says that the ref, fans and Cena screwed him. He then says that Cena never knocked him off his feet without using the steps. Khali says he can beat Cena anywhere which prompts the champ to come out. My brother is now here and we’re doing our own translating of what Khali says. Cena calls Khali an 8 foot cry baby, agrees that Khali’s foot was under the rope but he tapped out anyway. Cena says he was afraid of Khali before Judgement Day but that has passed. Cena now says he can beat Khali anywhere and Khali’s reply is a chop to the head and the double handed choke slam.

More commercials going by fast and we’re now up to the hour I saw live.

Lashley’s 2nd opponent in the gauntlet is Big Vis. Vis misses with a big open handed chop which allows Lashley to attack his arm but Vis turns it around clotheslines him. Lashley jumps over Vis then slams him for 2. Vis hit’s a sidewalk slam for 2. Awesome kick from Vis gets him another 2. Lashley now being hammered in the turnbuckles by Vis who misses a big splash then gets speared for Lashley’s 2nd win of the night.

Commercial break and they come back with the Timbaland video that had Torrie Wilson, some new (to me) Smackdown Diva, Extreme Expose and Ashley. It had a Sin City look to it with the girls wrestling in a WWE ring. It looked pretty good.

Another commercial break and they come back with Randy Orton in the ring. He regrets that HBK’s wife had to see what happened at Judgement Day which leads to a video recap of the match. He informs us that injuries are a target and he took advantage of it and that he beat HBK because he’s the Legend Killer. The Judgement Day match and this promo really put Orton over as a huge heel.

Vince is backstage with Umaga hyping him up for his gauntlet match with Lashley which comes up after a commercial break. Umaga hit’s a big splash for 2 and keeps the pressure on. Lashley tries to fight back but Umaga gives him a Samoan Drop for another near fall. Umaga tries to hit a flying head butt but Lashley rolls out of the way then shoulder blocks U,aga through the ropes. Lashley jumps off the apron but Umaga kicks him then clobbers him with a chair for Lashley to win by DQ. We cut backstage to Shane and Vince walking down a hallway with Shane dressed to wrestle as they go to commercial. They show us what happened during the break with Umaga destroying Lashley some more as Shane comes out to be the last person in the gauntlet. Umaga grabs another chair but Shane Vince convince him not to do it and the ref ejects him. Lashley rolls up Shane for 2 then gets a delayed spine buster for another near fall. Shane takes control and hit’s a DDT for 2 then focuses on Lashley’s back with a Boston Crab. Lashley powers out and Shane replies with a top rope elbow to the back for 2 then applies a camel clutch (sheiky joke here). Lashley powers out again, tries for a move with Shane on his back b ut can’t do it. Shane tries for another top rope elbow but gets speared in midair to get Lashley the win and another shot at the ECW Title. Show ends with Vince and Lashley looking eye to eye.

Another solid show with some nice set ups for One Night Stand.

You're kidding with that review of Raw on 5/21 I hope. That was the worst review of anything I've ever read. Why bother? For exampe, the Chris Masters vs Bobby Lashley match, which had so many great moves by both men, was simplified to a few sentences, as though only three or four moves happened. What gives? Again, why bother if you're not going to take this seriously and provide readers with some real information. A waste of time and disrespectful to the WWE performers.
