WWE Smackdown 6/8/07 Live Coverage

Hello and welcome to my first ever live coverage of Smackdown! This also has the distinction of being the last Smackdown before the Draft. I hope you enjoy this coverage possibly more than the show itself.

We start tonight's show with World Heavyweight Champion Edge coming down for The Cutting Edge. It seems that the audio/video is a little off. To show you how much I've watched Smackdown...I had no idea that Vickie was Assistant GM. Edge talks about his match at ONS then introduces Vince as his guest this week. Vince comes out looking as crazy as he did on RAW. Edge then talks about the Draft and how things need to be shaken up then mentions Mr. McMahon Appreciation Night. I knew Edge was an oppurtunist lately but it also looks like he has joined Vince's "Kiss My Ass" Club. He puts the World Title in Vince's lap but Vince says Edge is no better then announces Edge vs. Batista at Vengance. Edge says that isn't fair but Vince life isn't fair and that it sucks until the day you die. I see Vince has honed that crazy man gimmick since RAW and I wouldn't be surprised to see Vince have MVP, Chavo and Deuce and Domino defend their titles tonight.

Commercial.

We come back to a video package of Finlay and Hornswaggle. This was quite entertaining with great background music.

Boogeyman w/Little Boogey come out for his match against Mark Henry and I like Boogeyman's new makeup. Boogeyman is now in a bearhug and Little Boogey is still on the apron. Henry breaks the bearhug to attack Little Boogey then hits a big slam on Boogeyman for the win. Post match beatdown is Henry giving the World's Strongest Slam to Little Boogey then splashing him. I like Boogeyman and Little Boogey more than Henry so I don't get why they're pushing him.

Vickie is backstage and announces Edge vs. Benoit and MVP vs. Batista. I liked her better as a heel because this feeled too forced to me.

It hasn't even been 30 minutes and we've already had 2 segments and 1 match which isn't too bad at all.

Commercial.

Still backstage with Vickie, Kristal and Long. They tell Vickie she did a good job then Vince comes in and congratulates her. Vince tells Long they have a problem and that problem is Kristal because she is half Long's age.

Chavo, Jamie Knoble and Daviri are out for a 6-Man Tag Match against Jimmy Wang Yang, Paul London and Brian Kendrick. London now has facial hair whioh made it hard for to notice him. Knoble and Yang start out with Yang in control early on who then tags London and gets 2. Chavo now tagged in and JBL talks about what happened when the APA was broke during a previous draft and Kendrick is to get a nearfall. We get a quick series of tags and moves with Yang coming back in and getting a nearfall but missing a top rope kick which allows Chavo to tag in Daviri who doesn't stay in long and tags Knoble who gets a couple nearfalls. Yang reverses a move for 2 then Chavo comes in and gets 2 on Yang. Kendrick comes in to break up a pinfall and Daviri is tagged in. Yang fights his way out of a move then gets the hot tag to Kendrick who cleans house with some awesome kicks. Knoble interferes while the ref isn't looking which allows Chavo to hit a Brainbuster for 2. HOLY CRAP! L&K just pulled off a top rope Powerbomb neckbreaker like combo for the win.

Commercial.

Edge vs. Benoit is now up. I am very impressed at how fast Smackdown has gone tonight. Beonit in control early on with JBL and Cole pumping up Benoit. Beonit now lights Edge up and I love the look Edge had on his face after the first chop. Benoit gets a nearfall, goes back to working on Edge's arm then throws Edge hard into the turnbuckle and gets a couple nearfalls but can't apply the Crossface yet. Benoit tries for a German Suplex to the outside on Edge but Edge blocks it then gets back bodydropped to the outside as we go to commercial. Back from commercial with Benoit getting a nearfall. Edge takes control by raking Benoit's eyes and Benoit answers with chops then baseball slides Edge into the security wall then brings him back and hits a snap suplex for 2. Edge counters with a strong irish whip into the turnbuckle which makes Benoit hit his throat. Benoit and Edge now fighting on the top rope but Benoit headbutts Edge off then misses the Diving Headbutt and Edge gets a nearfall and now works on Benoit's arm. Edge goes for a shoulder submission but Benoit fights out of it but Edge gets back control for 2. Benoit fights out again, hits an enziguri but can't capitalize. Both men are back up after a few seconds with Benoit hitting a Northern Lights for 2. He then hits the Three Amigos then the 3 German Suplexes and the Flying Headbutt but takes too much time and only gets 2. I gotta hand it to Edge for taking those 6 suplexes and the Flying Headbutt and still kicking out. Edge tries for the spear but Benoit moves out of the way, applies the Crossface but Edge gets his hand on the rope. Benoit rams his injured shoulder into a turnbuckle then gets Speared to get Edge the win. This has to be one of the best Edge matches I've seen in quite a while which means it was a good idea to move him to Smackdown.

Commercial.

Backstage with Ashley and Jillian. Jillian says she's better than Ashley. Jillian slaps Ashley and they run off.

Now to Matt Hardy and Vince. Vince acts like he forgot about what happened to Matt then Jillian and Ashley run in with Ashley bumping into Vince and spilling coffee on him. He suspends her for it and we go to commercial with her crying. Guess that means she'll have more time to recover and be free to be drafted to RAW or ECW.

Deuce and Domino w/Cherry are taking on Matt Hardy now and this'll be the first time I've ever seen Deuce and Domino. Deuce and Domino double team for a bit then Deuce is in with him. Matt gets a nearfall but Deuce keeps the pressure on. Matt Hardy hits a cross body for 2 but Deuce kicks him in the ribs for 2. Twist of Fate attempt but Deuce wiggles out of it then Matt hits a 2nd rope legdrop for 2. Domino now in and they double team Matt again. Domino gets a nearfall and so does Deuce as we go to commercial. Back form commercial with D&D still taking it to Matt who fights back and gets a nearfall then hits a Sidee Efect on Deuce for another nearfall. Domino breaks up another pinfall then Matt gets a nearfall on Domino then a Twist of Fate but Deuce comes back in with a kick to the head for the win. D&D aren't half bad.

Backstage with somebody interviewing US Champ MVP. He says he's got something nobody else has and that is a championship.

Commercial.

Main Event Time. I yawned during Batista's entrance which shows what I think of him. MVP taunts Batista but Batista sends him into the turnbuckle and shoulder blocks him. MVP manages to get outside, drop Batista's head on the ropes then tries to put up some offense but Batista works on MVPs knee. MVP takes a shortcut to gain the advantage but it doesn't last long as Batista clotheslines him and MVP rolls out again as we go to commercial. Back from commercial with Batista still in control with a nearfall. MVP moves out of the way and hits a nice boot on Batista and sends him over the top rope. He brings Batista back in and gets a series of nearfalls. MVP hits a DDT and gets a couple nearfalls again. Batista gets sent out again and takes a while to get back in, tries to fight back but MVP drop toe holds him and sinches in a submission. Batista counters with a back body drop then clotheslines MVP in the corner then a spinning side slam for 2. Batista was about to hit the Batista Bomb on MVP but Edge comes in for the DQ then squirms out of a Batista Bomb. Edge and Batista look at each other as the show ends.

I have to say this episode really impressed me. It had more matches than RAW did this week and the matches were very good. As a great man once said, "Most impressive."
