Steve Irwin dead at 44

News comes via: Yahoo

Of course I have thoughts.

You know, my friends and I always used to joke about how Steve would probably meet his end in a manner similar to this.

But you know, I can't help but think that Steve probably wouldn't have had it any other way.

Working, doing something he loved right up until the very end.

It was Steve Irwin that got me interested in the animals that he featured on his show, which was not an easy thing to do since snakes seriously creep me out.

But it was Steve's personality that made me tune in and watch all of those shows more than anything else. Watching him handling a snake that could spit poison at him was also an interesting hook for me and a lot of people, it had that "Oh, he's not really gonna...oh yes he is, this might not end well for Steve." kind of feel.

Irwin was definitely a polarizing figure, a larger than life personality, but he brought more awareness to the cause of conservation than perhaps anyone else in history.

He leaves behind a wife and 2 children, and a devoted fanbase.

He will be missed.
