Round-by-Round Coverage: Fight Night Live 10/10/2006

Refresh your browser for the latest updates.

Scott: (Old Country Great Cornholio)
Wade: (Old Country Give and Taker)
Casey: (Old Country Caretaker)
are here for the show.

We've got Taco John's and Sunny Delight and all kinds of other junkfood.

Opening quote from Scott: "Next year, you're eating some doughnuts" I am now sad that I have to wait a whole year before I can have a doughnut.

This is the hard hitting info you can expect from an OCC report.

Tito says he manhandled Ken, Ken disagrees. Sounds like fighting words to me.

Show opening!!!

Mike Goldberg opens by asking if Tito will dominate Ken again? Ken says he didn't in the first place. He also asked if Ken would be fighting for the last time.

Tonight is all about the fans. Its lucky that they are able to say that with a straight face.

Joe Rogan says he's never seen Shamrock more relaxed before a fight. Well, when you know there's nothing you can do a sense of calm can over-take you.

According to Rogan, Chris Price is a newcomer and a veteran. That takes talent.

First Fight: Matt Hammil Vs. Seth Petruzelli
Referee: Big John McCarthy

Round 1: Petruzelli scores with a few kicks to the legs and body. Hammil just tossed him to the ground with an impressive display of power.

Scott and Wade should be coaches for Ultimate Fighter. Both call for kicking in the nads.

UFC 64 Preview, I can't wait.

Hammil has Petruzelli down and is using the ground and pound. Hammil scored with a second takedown.

I could be wrong but I think Goldberg just called Rogan "John".

Round 1 ends, I give it to Hammil 10-9.

Petruzelli has a cut near his eye.

Round 2: If I don't update much this round it is because I am killing Scott. Its kind of Mike Goldberg's fault.

Petruzelli had Hammil rocked early in the round but Hammil was able to recover.

After not doing much Big John McCarthy decides to stand them back up.

Petruzelli is having trouble seeing and Hamill driving elbows into it doesn't help. Wade and Scott are both advocating headbutts.

Round 2 Ends, I give it to Hammil again. 10-9.

However, the Dr. is examining the eye. If he can't see they'll stop the fight, kind of an obvious statement I know.

Round 3: Matt Hamill scores with some body kicks. Scott suggests giving them both guns, I think that might be against more than just a few rules.

This has been a really slow-pased fight so far.

Big John stands them both up after he wasn't satisfied with the amount of action.

3 minutes left in the fight. Seth had Hamill in trouble but he made a mistake and now Hamill is back in control Both fighters are bleeding now.

McCarthy calls for time so that the cuts can be checked.

the fight resumes and Hamill takes Petruzelli down again. This fight is all but over at this point.

Round 3 Ends, 10-9 Hamill.

I score the fight 30-27 Hamill.

We've reached the commercial break. Discussion turns to a Quiznos sandwich that neither Wade or Scott like. Syience had a commercial that everyone loved. A movie coming out that Scott wants to see. NBA 2k7, rock on.

We're back Live.

Bruce Buffer, 29-28, 30-27 and 29-28 were the scores.

Roban interviews Hamill. He says nothing of note accept that he is trying to get better.

Goldberg calls him a humble young man, Iron Sheik has ruined that word for me.

UFC 64 promo, Silva Vs. Franklin Saturday night, I'll be blogging.

Fight 2: Ed Herman Vs. Jason MacDonald

The fact that MacDonald is Canadian means that he's a heel in the room.

Oh, and just so you know SNH also has live coverage and Art actually talks more about the fights. Its a crazy strategy I know but it might work.

Scott reminds me that he has seen the Grove/Herman fight and I have not. I told him to shut-up.

17-7 6'33, 185 LBS: Jason "The Athlete" MacDonald (lame nickname)
13-3, 6'2, 186 LBS: Ed "Short Fuse" Herman
Referee: not me

Round 1: Herman took MacDonald down. It occurs to me MacDonald needs a farm.

Wade picked MacDonald and Scott picked "That Harmon guy". Maybe he'll fight Rich Hamilton next.

MacDonald has Herman in a triangle, Herman is in deep deep trouble.

Jason MacDonald is the winner via first round submission.

The official decision will come after the break. I wonder what it will be?

Winner: Jason macDonald, round 1, 2:43.

Rogan to interview: MacDonald says he's nobody's stepping stone. I guess not. If Ed was going to keep it standing, I was going to try and knock him out. Sounds like a plan to me.

Herman apologizes to his family, friends and fans. Herman asked for another shot. Some scattered booing in the crowUFC 64 Promo.

Goldberg and Rogan interviews Rich Franklin. He says he feels good going into the fight, after breaking his hand on Loiseau's face back in March.

Scott just called Wade a cake fucker. I feel you should know these things.

Goldberg asks Franklin if Silva is his toughest opponent and of course he says yes. I don't think UFC would have been happy if Franklin had said "Actually, I thought Loiseau was tougher."

A promo airs for the Scream awards.

Goldberg just made mention of "New TNA wrestler" Kurt Angle.

Fight 3: Kendall Grove Vs. Chris Price
Price says there's no reason he shouldn't win. I can think of at least 1.
Grove says he's going to end this in round 1.

The TV shows are much harder to stomach than the PPV's in regards to pasing.

A commercial airs for Mortal Kombat Armageddon. That's a better Armageddon than the WWE's version.

8-0, 6'3, 185: Chris "The Exercist" Price
8-3, 6'6, 185: Kendall "The Spider" Grove
Referee: Troy Wong (apparently, Tommy Chong was unavailable)

Round 1: Grove scores with a couple of early right hands.

Scott suggests that Homer Simpson fight in the UFC. I can't think of a reason why that can't happen.

This referee sounds like he was castrated at about 12.

Grove and Price are both battling for position.

Grove has him up against the fence. The referee is talking to Price checking to see if he's ok.

Referee Long Dong Wong stops the fight after Price taps out due to Grove's striking

Kendall Grove is the winner.

Official decision: 3:59 in round via tapout Kendall Grove

Rogan interviews Grove: He wants to fight Rory Singer next, well its good to have goals. Grove's prediction of a first round victory proved to be correct.

Fight 4: Tito Ortiz Vs. Ken Shamrock
Nice video package talking about the referee stoppage.
Rogan says if Shamrock wins tonight it could be the biggest upset in UFC history. This could very well be true.

Crowd support is for Tito early.

26-11-2, 6'0, 204.5 LBs: "The World's Most Dangerous Man" Ken Shamrock
15-4, 6'2, 203.5 LBs: "The Untington Beach Bad Boy" Tito Ortiz
Referee: Big John McCarthy

Round 1: Ken avoids the takedown early, Tito Ortiz lands some big punches and the expected result comes to pass.

Tito Ortiz is victorious.

A commercial airs for Angle's sitdown interview this week on TNA iMPACT.

Winner:ito Ortiz via Knockout in 2:22 of round 1.

Rogan with Tito: the crowd goes nuts when they hear about Liddell Vs. Tito. Tito partially quotes Ric Flair in talking about beating Liddell. Tito thanks a bunch of people including sponsors.

Rogan with Shamrock: Shamrock says that he was definitely out in this fight. This is a good bye speech. Tito interupts to say that this is Shamrock's night but Liddell is next.

Crowd gives Shamrock polite applause but hardly rousing for the departure of Shamrock.
