OCC Aftermath: TNA Genesis 2006
Now that its over lets examine the body.
Overall: I can't say I loved this show. There was some good in-ring action with Angle/Joe, Christian/Styles, Sabin/Daniels and Sting/Abyss. However, there was a bunch of weird booking on this show that prevents me from giving it a complete thumbs up.
Score: 6/10
- Best Match: Samoa Joe Vs. Kurt Angle
It was no 5 star classic but then I don't think it should've been. This was intended to be the first match of a program and you don't want to give away too much in the first match. I know that Flair and Steamboat practically had a ***** match every time out in 1989 but if you look at more recent times and take Angle's most recent feud with Michaels that had high quality matches, the fact is that the first was the best and they gradually slipped a bit. Yeah, they were still great but they set the bar way too high with the first one. I'm not so sure though in defense of Angle and Michaels that the first match wasn't always intended to be the only one.
Other thoughts on the main event. I thought this should've been the longest match on the show. I was disappointed that it didn't hit the 20 minute mark. It didn't feel like an epic moment with matches on the show that were just as long. - Worst Match: Voodoo Kin Mafia Vs. The Movement. Nobody cared, it had no heat and the James Gang are useless. I have nothing else to say about this.
- Worst Angle: LAX being stripped of the tag titles because of the fact TNA management feels they have dishonnored the belts reaks of stupidity. The fans hated it, if TNA management could do this then why didn't they just strip Jarret of the world title all those times they weren't happy with his reigns? It makes no sense from a booking standpoint and devalues the bet. Sure, it is a plug for iMPACT and what will LAX do but this was a bad idea and Jim Cornette may be trying to swallow his tongue right now.
- Most Unique Finish: So TNA has this rule that the title can change hands on a DQ. Well, thinking back I can't remember the last time the champion was disqualified in a match. So the rule may have always remained in place but it was definitely forgotten. The rule was paid off tonight. I'm not sure I like it, but it was a unique finish I'll give them that. This felt like the first chapter of something, but I'm still not certain of Sting's contract.
- Misc. Thought: I want them out of Orlando more. Its hard to have a match feel like a big deal when 900 people are in the building watching it.
