Smackdown Review (Air Date: 16th March 2007)

Show opened up with Miz TV with special guest World Heavyweight Champion and personal friend of mine Batista. JBL made the following comment during this segment: "I'm not sure why Miz is still alive" which made think...why is the Miz still alive? Why hasn't anyone taken the opportunity to put this idiot out of his misery?

Anyway back to the segment itself, Miz said that at any moment The Undertaker could come down to the ring and kick Batista's ass. On the evidence of last week's match with Kane, the All American Over 80's Amputee Wrestling team could kick Batista's ass. At this point the lights went down and everybody thought that Taker was on his way...they were wrong as the lights came back up and the Miz was laughing as this was a joke where he had paid the light operator two dollars allegedly to switch the lights off. Miz said that he was worried about what Batista's reaction would be to this joke. At first Batista seemed to enjoy the joke and laughed and told the Miz he got him. He then offered Miz his hand and Miz accepted...this quickly was turned into Batista Bomb and Miz was humbled.

Mr. Kennedy vs. Matt Hardy

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Winner - Matt Hardy

Kennedy cut a promo backstage after this mess of a match saying that after Wrestlemania 23 he will be Mr. Money in the Bank...I shudder at the thought.

MVP vs. El Grande Latte

We were honored this week courtesy of MVP to have the Undefeated Hondurian Heavyweight Champion El Grande Latte which JBL had apparently wrestled his dad. El Grande Latte is according to JBL Mil Mascara's Great Great Great Great Great Great Grandchild. This match answered the time honored question...can MVP have a horrible match with anyone? The answer is...yes. This sucked a gigantic pole. MVP eventually won with The Playmaker.

If that wasn't enough MVP for one week, he then cut a promo asking for a response to his request for the humbling of a lifetime at Wrestlemania in a US Championship match against Chris Benoit. Long came out to the runway and said that he had signed this match and introduced his opponent. Benoit then came out and went to the ring with intentions of killing this little fucker and for a while he did. Once he got MVP to the ground, he attempted to put on the crossface but MVP managed to get free and escape to die another day or more specifically in 15 days at Wrestlemania 23.

Michael Cole then previewed the Wrestlemania Recall matches that are set for Raw this coming Monday which are John Cena vs. Chris Benoit and Shawn Michaels vs. JBL. JBL took this opportunity to cut a promo on HBK calling him a punk little gay with an ego the size of Texas and he has something special in store for HBK on Raw. I can only wonder what that will be.

Paul London, Brian Kendrick and Ashley the useless vs. MNM

London and Kendrick are now the forth longest reigning tag team champions of all time at 300 days. What that means these days is nothing since tag team wrestling is a dying art. Joey Mercury is finally free of the protective face mask which must feel good. This was a fine 10-15 minute match, it is very hard to put these two teams together and get a bad match from them. Melina needs to stop screaming as each time she does, the urge to kill her rises with each screech! Finish came around after Ashley accidentally distracted the ref that allowed Melina to low blow London, allowing Nitro and Mercury to hit the Snapshot and gain the win. Ashley and Melina brawled post match and were dragged apart by their respective teams. Oh boy, I cannot wait for that match! *end sarcasm*

Video package aired for Ernie Ladd which was nice.

King Booker and Sharmell are in their dressing room and the King wonders why he is in a match with The Undertaker tonight. Finlay appears in the dressing room looking for Hornswoggle as he is in a lot of trouble apparently. Booker and Sharmell say they haven't seen him but Booker uses this chance to ask Finlay for some advice for his match later tonight. Finlay says he has one piece of advice...RUN! Booker goes after Finlay and leaves Sharmell filing her nails when she hears a clattering somewhere in the room. Since she cannot see anything she disregards it and carries on with what she was doing until she hears the same noise again. This time she traces the sound's location to a door in the dressing room which she opens and finds Hornswoggle with the biggest glass of Guinness I saw all time all my life and wishes everybody a Happy St. Patrick’s Day. Seriously, this was a HUGE glass of beer! Sharmell terrified of her discovery backs into a corner and Hornswoggle climbs up on the sofa and says "Kiss me, I’m Irish". He does not get a kiss as Sharmell runs out of the room leaving Hornswoggle to take a big swig out of the glass and look happy.

A video recap of the contract signing from this week's Raw aired next.

Daivari vs. Kane

We join Daivari mid rant I think regarding The Great Khali and Kane when the aforementioned Kane appears and proceeds to kill Daivari. After a couple of minutes, Kane takes Daivari to the outside and goes underneath the ring and finds his hook which he ties around Daivari's neck and drags him to the back into a room with some red lights for some purpose. I don't want to say that since he was taken into a red lit room that Kane was going to humble Daivari but we never found out so that's going to be my take on the situation.

MAIN EVENT TIME!!!!!

The Undertaker vs. King Booker

Prior to the match, Batista comes down to the commentary table and joins JBL and Cole to view this match as research for his match at Wrestlemania. I'm sure that Dave is becoming more insane as the days pass by as he came out with this quote during this OK encounter: "I am in the shape of my life" Shape of your life...Shape of your life...Shape of your life...HA!

Undertaker and Batista engaged in a staredown midway through the match and this got some kind of a reaction from the crowd who hadn't been making much noise during this match. The finish was Undertaker going for the Last Ride on Booker and Finlay hitting the ring and striking Taker with the shillelagh for the DQ. Post match Finlay and the King lay into Undertaker with shillelagh shots and kicks until Taker struck back with punches and in the moment of the evening using Finlay as a missile to hit Batista and knock him off his chair. Booker got Tombstoned and that was that.

This was a better show than last week's disaster but with only two shows left until Wrestlemania, they are going to have to pull something out of the bag to make their side of the PPV of interest to anyone.
