WWE Smackdown Review (Air Date 2nd March 07)

The show began with Batista coming to the ring to address the crowd. Whoopie! He said that he wanted to make a statement: he is here to compete. No fucking shit! He also claimed that his match with Undertaker at Wrestlemania 23 is going to get ugly. He claimed that this was going to be the match of his career and then the lights went out. On the screen was a graveyard and The Undertaker's voice saying that he was going to take Batista back to the Old School~! and his title reign will Lest in Pisssssssssssssss...i mean Rest in Peace. This was fine, the crowd were not happy that Undertaker was not there live but what can you do.

Money in The Bank Qualifier Match
Matt Hardy vs. Joey Mercury

His royal highness, King Bookah joined JBL and Michael Cole at the announce table and JBL being the nice guy he is, forced Michael Cole to kiss the King's ring. Cole asked Booker about the involvement of The Great Khali in his qualifing match last week against Kane and Booker claimed he had no idea why he was there but was thankful. The match itself was good when it was all said and done but had its problems. For example, Matt Hardy landing face first on the mat after a failed moonsault, Joey Mercury pinning Hardy in a very gay manner like he was attempting to have the sex with him and my personal favourite, Joey Mercury putting Matt Hardy's arm on the rope and then kicking the rope instead of his arm. Matt Hardy ripped off Mercury's protective face mask near the end and delivered a straight right hand to him while he was on the top rope. Hardy then delivered a top rope Twist Of Fate for the pin. The crowd were firmly behind Matt Hardy for the entirety of the match. They showed King Booker's reaction after the pinfall and the king was not amused.

Kristal interviewed MVP who said when Theodore Long signed him, they signed Money in The Bank. Pointless.

Scotty 2 Hotty, Shannon Moore and Jimmy Wang Yang vs. Gregory Helms(with new and improved entrance music), Daivari and Cruiserweight Champion Chavo Guerrero.

I honestly thought Shannon Moore was released during the most recent cuts but i guess i was wrong. Nothing much to say about the match, it was a fine little cruiserweight 6 man match. They teased some heat between Gregory Helms and Chavo Guerrero but nothing became of it. The finish was Jimmy Wang Yang coming off the top rope with a moonsault pinning Daivari.

They aired a recap video showing the destruction of Rey Mysterio from last week.

Straight after this Vincent Kennedy McMahon made his way down to the ring and mentioned how much he enjoyed watching Umaga kill Mysterio. I sure did. He once again put over the Hair vs. Hair match at Wrestlemania 23. I like how on each of the three brands this week they went out of their way to make sure we know this match is happening and where it's happening, something TNA obviously has never heard of. Accoring to Vince, "this match is about 2 things: ego and embarasment" Yup. A recap of Donald Trump's speech on Raw was shown letting the unenlightened know that Bobby Lashley is his pick. After this Vince made the comment that on ECW this week, Lashley proved he belongs in a cage(cue recap of Bobby Lashley humbling the side of cage). Also it was announced that the special guest referee for the match will be revealed on Raw this coming week.

At this point, Mr. Lashley made his way to the ring smiling like Travis Lutter going into a Burger King and this made Mr. McMahon very worried. Vince then offers Lashley double whatever Trump is paying him to stop the match. Suprisingly Lashley said no and then Vince slapped him...Lashley then evolved into The Increadible Hulk and chased Vince out of the ring. This was great, if you were to ask the most casual fan in the world "What's going on at Wrestlemania?" they would say "Vince and Trump are in a Hair vs. Hair match"

After the commercial we cut backstage to Vince throwing a fit about Lashley saying no to him and Mr. Kennedy appears begging for Lashley tonight in a match. Vince gives him the match and makes it for the ECW World Title with some stipulations: Mr. Kennedy has No Holds Barred rules meanwhile if Lashley gets DQ'd, Mr. Kennedy wins the championship. TNA TNA TNA!

Ashley vs. Gillian

Ashley won.

Triple Threat Money in The Bank Qualifier Match
Chris Benoit vs. MVP vs. Finlay

The Little Bastard has a name and it is...Hogswaggel. We found this out thanks to
Hornswoggle appearing from under the ring, jumping on the announce desk and attacking JBL and Michael Cole. Finlay then came over and told them the midget had a name and threatened them if they did not treat his friend with respect. Finlay and Benoit beat the fuck out of each other during the entirety of the match with the best moment being Benoit German suplexing Finlay onto his head on the outside. BRUTAL. MVP looked so out of place in this match but for once he was not completely useless. He did have a short partnership with Finlay in this match but that was ended about 2 minutes later with Finlay giving MVP a HARD larient. The finish came about after Benoit hit the three Germans and the flying headbutt on MVP and Hornswoggle distracted the referee allowing Finlay to hit both men with the shillelagh and pin Benoit.

MAIN EVENT

ECW World Championship Match
Bobby Lashley vs. Mr. Kennedy

I'm not explaining the rules again. Mr. Kennedy removed a couple of the turnbuckle covers once he entered the ring since he could, why he didn't remove them all is still a mystery to me. Early on in the match, Lashley went to throw Kennedy into one of them and was only stopped by the referee reminding him we would lose his title if he was DQ'd. This match was heatless from beginning to end, not even Mr. Kennedy hitting Lashley 74 times with a steel chair could get this crowd to react at all. The finish came around with Lashley catching Kennedy running into him, powerslamming him and pinning him. So Bobby Lashley is still your ECW Champion...and nobody cares.

Overall, this was a good episode with the exception of the women's match and they are continuing to build matches for Wrestlemania so i cannot complain.
