June 9 2007
AWA Professional Wrestling, the major league of professional wrestling since 1959, is back for its second year at “the World’s Home of the Figure 8” ® on Wednesday June 13th. The squared-circle superstars are back for more headlocks, body slams, and dropkicks off the top rope for fans of the sport. Tickets are on sale now for this colossal racing and wrestling event.
And once again this year, there will be plenty of exciting Speedrome racing action on the docket. The Jiffy Lube Late Models and Hornets will take to the surface for side-by-side competition. The night will begin with the full racing program, then capped off by a spine-tingling Jiffy Lube Late Model Figure 8. The AWA Wrestling extravaganza follows all that. Also, during the night will be an autograph session for the superstars of the AWA. It gives all the fans a chance to meet and greet the athletes up close.
DICK THE BRUISER JR
After Dick the Bruiser Sr passed away in the early 90's, Dick the Bruiser Jr is now following in his father's wake and dealing damage to wrestlers in title matches all over the country. So what about this new face and old name-can Dick the Bruiser Jr dish out punishment like the old timers? You bet he can, but don't let his mild mannerisms and charm fool you-in the ring he's a bulldog tough to pin! Bruiser, Junior recently said, "I grew up watching my father wrestle its in your blood."
The Indianapolis native spent years watching professional wrestling, and even testing out some of his new skills on other kids at the matches. Having to follow in the footsteps of a wrestling legend is tough; "sometimes other kids would pick on you to see how tough you are, being that you're son of the Bruiser."
Bruiser Jr didn't start out with wrestling ambitions, though. "Like any young boy growing up, you get involved in sports, girls and school work," he said. Bruiser Jr played baseball and football in High School, but his parents also impressed upon him to keep up on his studies. After high school and after turning down a baseball scholarship by the Philadelphia Phillies, Bruiser Jr made the difficult decision to finish college. In 1986 Bruiser Jr graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor in Health Sciences degree and proceeded to carve out a path for himself as Co-owner of a food distribution service in Northeast Indiana.
However, this son of a Bruiser couldn't just tackle the average worker bee's routine for very long-with encouragement from his sister's husband (wrestling legend Spike Huber), Dick the Bruiser Jr found himself taking on champion wrestlers from every federation. Soon, the Bruiser was traveling up to 3 days a week performing at wrestling matches all over the country. "Its funny how things work themselves out," said Bruiser. "History can indeed repeat itself in surprising ways."
The 275-pound Bruiser is currently residing in Reno Nevada, while maintaining his former residence in Indiana and a winter retreat in Florida. Though he lives closer to the West Coast (a greater "mecca" region for the wrestling industry) he often enjoys bringing wrestling back to his home state of Indiana, and he's currently planning to start a wrestling school there to "bring back some interest." With the help of other wrestling names in the industry and some other sons of "old-school" Wrestlers, like Bobo Brazil Jr.
So, what can we expect in the future from the "Bull Dog" of professional wrestling? As wrestling market mogul "Mike the Machine" said " Its good, solid wrestling entertainment with a twist of bedlam. Not only is it tough to pin the bulldog, but you won't leave show without a seeing some punishment dealt to rival wrestlers."
