Young Lions Cup V - The winner, the aftermath, and what comes next...
Those of you that joined us live on Sunday afternoon, June 24th, watched as Chuck Taylor defeated his perennial rival Ricochet in the finals of our fifth annual Young Lions Cup tournament. Taylor follows men like Hallowicked, Larry Sweeney, Jigsaw, Shane Storm, Arik Cannon and Maxime Boyer in the proud lineage of this prestigious achievement!
Also on the 24th, a handful of tag teams - Los Ice Creams, the Olsen Twins, Chris Hero & Claudio Castagnoli and the BLK Out all earned their first point toward tag team title contention. Under our system of rules, a team must accumulate 3 points (wins) in order to challenge the Campeones de Parejas, F.I.S.T. (Gran Akuma & Icarus) in a title bout.
An unfortunate incident in the aftermath of the Lince Dorado/Mitch Ryder match in Hellertown has prompted our Director of Fun, Leonard F. Chikarason, to take action. Before the fans in attendance, Ryder struck one of our security guards, and afterwards, the two once again caused a commotion in the backstage area. Chikarason had this to say about the incident: "We do not tolerate wrestlers putting their hands on our officials, and I feel this must extend to our staff as well. Therefore, Mitch Ryder will find himself suspended from our upcoming events, and I will begin re-organizing our July 21 Wallingford card effective today. I would like to point out that the subsequent backstage altercation was not Ryder's fault, and such behavior is not tolerated either at CHIKARA or Chikara Wrestle Factory. Our security guard has been dismissed, and hopefully this serves as an example to the other young members of our crew regarding our professional code of conduct."
In just about a month, CHIKARA makes its Connecticut debut with "Showdown in CrisisLand!" at the Knights of Columbus hall in Wallingford. Advance tickets are already on sale and updated card information is available at chikarapro.com!
Last but not least, the staff, crew and roster of CHIKARA want to voice their sympathies to fellow wrestlers, and wrestling fans alike, over the passing of Chris Benoit. He will be missed.
