George Done?

According to the San Francisco Chronicle the audition of Jeff George may be over.

Although the way it sounds, if the Team suffers an injury at QB, he will be the first one called.

I've got more on this if you:

Some more quotes, with my comments in bold.
While the decision to part ways with George was somewhat expected, Oakland's move to release Clark and trade Gabriel sent mild shockwaves through the Raiders'
locker room. Gabriel was expected to start this season opposite Randy Moss while Clark started 31 games for Oakland over the last two seasons and was defensive
captain in 2005.

OCC: The Gabriel trade still surprises me. I don't believe that Jerry Porter is back in the good graces of the team and I don't think that either Morant or Whitted is going to start and that's not Curry's role. Very interesting to see how this shakes out.
"That one was hard on me, that one was the hardest," Shell said of releasing Clark. "He gave us everything he had, worked hard. Not to say the rest of them
didn't, but this kid was demoted to the second team and he worked his tail off and never said a word, just kept working. Hopefully he'll catch on with
somebody.

OCC: This one doesn't make any sense, and the quote doesn't help. From reading that quote, I still have no idea why he was cut. Did someone play better than him? Hard to tell from my vantage point, but he was a guy that worked hard, got demoted and didn't complain and played hard and he wasn't one of those guys that tried hard but wasn't good, he was a good player. So why release him?

In another note, center Jake Grove returned to practice Saturday after sitting out the final two preseason games with a shoulder injury. Shell said he wasn't
certain whether Grove would play Monday night against San Diego in the season opener.

OCC: This is good news. Hopefully it means Grove will be back in week 1 or week 2. No offense to Hulsey but I'd much rather see Grove on the field to provide continuity.

AFC Previews coming either later tonight or tomorrow depending.
