We'll be starting in a few moments.
The show opens with Goldberg and Rogan running down the card for this evening and talking about how we got to this point. If it sounds exciting, well it must be because of how I wrote it.
I'm not sure where the CARE preview is, so I'll just give my fight predictions as they take place.
Edwin Dewees Vs. Jorge Rivera is up first.
I predicted: Jorge Rivera to win.
Goldberg is running down the rules, just in case you've never heard them before, I don't say that to mock him either. He makes sure you know the rules unlike certain wrestling company's that shall remain doing less business.
This is a Middle Weight fight
34-10, 6'0, 186: Edwin "Bam Bam" Dewees
13-5, 6'1, 185: Jorge "El Conquistador" Rivera
Round 1: Dewees is 24 and has like 44 fights, that's a lot of work.
Rivera scored with some striking blows, knees punches and kicks.
Dewees answers with some nice combinations but this seems to wake Rivera up as he makes the comeback and pours on the offense.
The referee stops the fight, giving it to Rivera feeling that Dewees wasn't defending himself intelligently.
Rogan says its hard to tell in this situation. I personally am not sure either, it might have been stopped too soon.
I have one thing to say about the crowd, its a small one but that's understandable given the building they are in, but so far they've been quiet. They are going to make me long for the iMPACT Zone regulars if they don't start to make some noise. I could almost hear individual conversations.
Just saw a commercial for the new iMPACT time slot.
Winner: Jorge Rivera 2:37 R1 after referee stoppage.
Rogan with Rivera: How much did 6 weeks in the house improve your game? He answers the question by thanking Jesus Christ, but not Mr. McMahon and then wishes his father a happy birthday. He says his confidence is improving but he's still got some holes in his game and he's going to continue to work to fix those.
The bad thing about short fights on this show is that we're going to have some down time between them, serious down time.
UFC 65 Promo Spot featuring the 2 title fights. This show doesn't have a lot of interest behind it, of course the level of interest in UFC would seem to have dropped a bit.
Up Next is the Lightweight fight between Rich Clementi and Din Thomas
I predicted: Rich Clementi, however as I submitted my preview on Thursday and had time to think about it I have changed my mind, so now I'm picking Din Thomas. Will my John Kerry-itus come back to bite me in the backside? We'll find out.
Wow, they're not going to show a billion video packages between fights.
33-10-1, 5'9, 156: Rich "No Love" Clementi
20-7, 5'10, 155: Din Thomas
Round 1: Mike Goldberg says this should be spectacular. I think it will be spectacular if they can make this crowd sound like its more than 5 people strong.
Din Thomas with a big right hand. Clementi wants to take the fight to the ground. I want this to be next week's show so I'm not watching it alone and its in front of a real crowd and isn't boring. I bet neither Rich or I get what we want.
Thomas rocks Clementi with a left hand now.
Rich Clementi is bloody and Thomas scores with a few body shots.
Have I mentioned how annoying this crowd is? Thomas hits a nice body shot close to the end of the round.
The horn goes off to end the round only even it sounded half-hearted.
Scoring: Due to the number of blows he landed and the way he had control over the round I am going to score this round 10-9 in favor of Din Thomas.
Commercial Break!!!
A iMPACT commercial airs featuring Kurt Angle and his many qualifications. Then we see a Tenacious D commercial.
Round 2: Clementi tries a different strategy in the second round and scores with some kicks. The fight ends up on the ground after Clementi slips, Thomas went down willingly. I hear other people in Nevada will do that too for the right amount of money.
Thomas is handling himself quite nicely on the ground. If handling yourself was illegal then I know a lot of people that would've earned life sentences in prison right now.
Yes, my mind is in the gutter but it is because of this show. The fight is fine but the crowd is well a crowd.
Din Thomas has Clementi in trouble, and hooks on a rear naked choke and he gets the tap out.
So my decision to flip-flop on my picks didn't back fire on me.
We'll get the official decision after a
Commercial Break!!!
Even the commercials on this show have been boring. Let me say it again for the slow among you, the fights haven't been bad, the second fight was pretty good. Its just that they've been made boring by a crowd that acts like it just came straight from the game "Dead Rising".
Pros Vs. Joe's season 2 coming in January.
Rochelle Leah = mmmmmmmmmm
Winner: Din Thomas at 3:11 R2 via tap out by Rear-naked choke.
I wish I were naked and Rochelle Leah or Gail Kim or both were here. I wouldn't be watching this show if that were the case, that's for sure.
Rogan with Thomas: I have no idea what Thomas said but that's OK because I have no idea what Rogan asked him. I wasn't paying attention to Rogan, Thomas on the other hand is just so winded that its hard for me to figure him out.
Rogan: Welcome back to the UFC, how long do you think it will be before you're ready for a title fight?
Thomas: I'm ready right now. Is Sean Sherk here? I'm ready for you Sherk!
I bet Sean Sherk had better things to do tonight, probably found himself a good wall to stare at.
Commercial break!!!
Third iMPACT commercial of the night, hyping Kurt Angle and the fact that he will wrestle for the first time on this show. I have more interest in that than I do in the rest of this show because at least I know the crowd will be excited.
Goldberg calls it a great start to the show. I call him a liar.
We're going to the dark matches now which I prefer to video packages any day.
Scott Smith Vs. Pete Sell
I Picked: Scott Smith, but my reasoning wasn't that sound. I actually made a terrible joke about picking both Sell and Pete Spratt and how I couldn't because that would be a repete and I wasn't interested in repetes. In a large way I am now happy that the round table never made it up.
I checked my adsense tracker and I've made $0.22 today. I don't think that's nearly enough for this show, so if you could take a second and click a google ad and help me feel better about this.
A Trojan condom commercial airs. Then we get another TNA iMPACT spot accompanied by the iMPACT Theme music this time.
Tale of the tape, Sell is 24 Smith is 27. Sell owns a reach advantage but its a small one.
11-2, 6'0, 185: Scott "Hands of Steel" Smith
7-2, 5'11, 185: Pete "Drago" Sell
Referee: Big John McCarthy
It occurs to me if Smith really did have hands of Steel he'd be really hard to beat.
Round 1: These 2 became good friends while in the Ultimate Fighter house. Look I understand, there were like no women around and...oh, I see they didn't mean it that way.
Smith scores with a nice kick and a nice punch. Sell tries a counter. Smith is throwing bombs according to Rogan. So its not enough that he has hands of steel but he's really going for it all with the bombs.
Smith is easily out-striking Sell throughout this first round.
On another note, I think I just heard a lady as her boyfriend to go get her a soda.
Rogan informs us that both of these men are fighters. Good thing to know especially since they are currently fighting.
This has been a pretty exciting first round. Even the 25 people in the audience seem to realize it.
Smith lands another left hand. He catches Sell with another straight left a few seconds later. Smith lands a right and then a knee to Sell. The round comes to an end.
Scoring: Smith did a majority of the damage as the fight stayed upright for the first round. I give it to Smith 10-9.
Rogan says they were hugging in between rounds, hmmm now I'm beginning to wonder. If this relationship continues to flourish they may hit a wedding chapel between the second and third round. Does Nevada have a ban on same sex marriage? Ha, Nevada having a ban on anything is funny sounding.
Round 2: Instead of talking about the fight, Rogan and Goldberg are talking about the life in the house and Shonie Carter. Think of it like this Goldberg is Tony Schiavone, Rogan is Bobby Heenan and the fighters are cruiserweights and this is WCW Monday Nitro. (Actually I don't think Nitro was ever in front of a crowd this small but maybe it did)
Rogan says the fighters are breathing heavy so with all the hugging and heavy breathing this fight could move to Cinimax or the Spice Channel at any point.
Oh this was quite the finish. Sell hurts Smith badly with a shot to the body and while he's hurt so bad, he knocks Pete Sell out.
Seriously, I've never seen anything like this finish before. That was incredible.
With a finish like that I can not hate this show anymore. I can hate the building and the crowd but this show is officially no longer boring.
Winner: Scott Smith, 3:25 R2 via Knockout
Rogan with Smith: Smith said he got drilled and felt like he had one punch left in him. Well, it was quite the punch I'll give him that.
Rogan asks him how tough it is to fight a friend? Smith answers the question without really answering the question, so he could have a political career should knocking people the fuck out not pan out.
That fight will be hard to beat for fight of the night.
Another commercial airs for the iMPACT move, that makes 5 and they may not have shown the same commercial twice.
Up next is the Middleweight finals: Travis Lutter Vs. Patrick Cote
I picked: Travis Lutter to win the fight and earn the right to have Anderson Silva beat him down at a future date. Seriously, you might be better off being the loser of this fight.
Its only 9:30, wow this show is moving at a swift pace. The crowd hasn't been good but this show isn't as boring as I have made it out to be.
Tale of the tape: Lutter has the reach and I believe is older.
9-3, 5'11, 185: Patrick "The Predator" Cote
11-3, 5'11, 186: Travis "The serial Killer" Lutter
Referee: Big John McCarthy
I'm not sure I'd brag about that nickname if I were Lutter.
Round 1: Goldberg calls winning the $200,000 an opportunity of a lifetime, well that's true because the life of the winner could end at the hands of Anderson Silva in the not too distant future. The winner also gets a car too bad Silva will render him unable to drive.
Lutter has side control and has Cote in big big trouble.
Travis Lutter was the Anderson Silva in this fight and Patrick Cote was the Travis Lutter in Lutter's next fight. Lutter wins by doing not nice things to Cote's arm.
Winner: Travis Lutter, 2:18, R1 Via Arm Bar Tap out
Rogan is with Lutter: (Rogan, how's it feel to know that Silva's going to kill you 6 ways from Sunday?) Ok that's not the first question in fact Dana White is running down all the stuff Lutter won and will be able to enjoy until the Silva fight.
White slips and says he gets the St. Pierre Vs. Hughes winner before correcting himself. If I were Lutter, I might have thought: "I wish". It should be obvious to everyone at this point that Silva is the official favorite of the OCC, I mean he earned his own OCC Holiday for crying out loud.
Rogan says that Lutter's style is probably best suited to beat Silva. We'll see about that.
Lutter says to Silva basically that he's looking forward to the fight. Silva says that congratulations go to Lutter for winning the fight and now Lutter's in the position Silva was against Franklin.
The fight will be in February.
Goldberg tells us we'll hear from Hughes and St. Pierre later in the show and plugs the Serra Vs. Lytle fight. Monson and Sylvia have barely gotten mentioned tonight which I don't have a problem with because I don't think much of that fight personally and the other is the fight that will sell the show.
Another iMPACT commercial airs, I believe this is the first repeat commercial of the night. This would be the sixth spot of the show for TNA.
Goldberg is talking to Hughes and GSP who are at their respective homes. Hughes says that the fight will be to Serra's advantage if its on the ground and Lytle's if it stands.
Rogan asks Hughes if he has a problem losing motivation. I doubt it after what St. Pierre said when Hughes beat Penn back in September. If it were the NFL we'd call it a bulletin board quote.
Goldberg asks St. Pierre what makes him think he can defeat the greatest welterweight champion of all time. GSP says he's a better fighter than he was the first time around.
Rogan asks GSP for his strategy essentially and ST. Pierre is wisely being vague. Hughes is St. Pierre's idle.
Goldberg asks Hughes who he thinks will win tonight and Hughes says Goldberg is putting him on the spot. Uh, Matt not to be stupid but you're doing an interview on the finals of Fight Night Live, you had to know this question was coming.
Talk moves to the comments after the Penn fight. Hughes is pretty mad about that comment and GSP calls it a mistake. It may have been but that's not really what you should say in public and you probably shouldn't reveal that you apologized immediately after it was over. You don't want to ruin the illusion.
Welterweight Finals are up next: Matt "The Terra" Serra Vs. Chris "Lights out" Lytle
Hold It~! Dark Fight: Martin Campmann Vs. Thales Leites
I picked: Leites because his name is so cool.
9-0, 6'0, 185: Thales Leites
10-1, 6'0, 185: Martin "The Hit man" Campmann
Well, he's no Bret Hart.
Round 1: This was the first fight of the night and it shows. I was just listening to a song that fits this crowd tonight: "The Sounds of Silence" This is Leites' first UFC fight and Campmann's second.
Campmann avoids he early take down attempt. B.J. Penn is the man who recommended Thales Leites to the UFC. I'd like to thank him for introducing Thales Leites' name in to my life.
Big Right by Leites. Campmann gets back to his feet but was cut open. Leites hits some more shots but can't score with the take down as Campmann has a good defense. As soon as I write this, Leites takes him down, isn't that always the way?
Campmann works his way back to his feet. The round ends.
Scoring: He controlled the round so Leites wins it 10-9.
Commercial break!!!
Dave Meltzer says that Mike Goldberg plugged the fact that the TNA replay was moved to Wednesday at 11:00 PM. I didn't hear this if he did, so there you go.
Another iMPACT commercial airs and this one plugs both Angle's in-ring debut and Christian Vs. Rhino. That makes 7 spots I've seen.
Round 2: Campmann is supposedly the better striker but got out struck by Leites in round 1.
Campmann hits a nice leg kick early. Campmann with a good left hook and Leites nails a right hand in response.
Campmann is moving better in the second round and landed another couple of leg kicks. Leites is hurt by a big left hook from Campmann. Leites is trying to hang in with a strategy that would appear to benefit Campmann.
Campmann avoids another take down attempt. Leites is on weak legs right now and Campmann is just making things worse with leg kicks. Thales Leites is bleeding heavily in this round. Round 2 comes to an end.
Scoring: Campmann owned this round out-striking Leites and avoiding his takedowns. Its the complete opposite of round 1 and is reflected by the fact I give this round to Campmann 10-9.
Round 3 will decide this fight.
Round 3: Leites looks like he just watched ECW and Smackdown, in other words he looks tired. The crowd must have started arriving during this round because they're making more noise.
Thales with a couple of punches, but Campmann (to steal a line from Owen Hart) tries to kick his leg out from under his leg.
Goldberg reminds us that Leites is undefeated, not for long if he keeps fighting like this. Crowd is chanting "Hit man" I wonder if they think Bret Hart is here?
Campmann catching Leites with a bunch of strikes, and is on his way to a win. Leites is exhausted, you know my strategy of who has the cooler name seems to fail me more than it succeeds.
Scoring: Campmann owned the round and wins this fight. I score the round 10-9 for Campmann and give him a 29-28 decision.
Lets see what the judges say.
8th iMPACT commercial I've seen.
Winner: Martin Campmann (29-28, 29-27, 29-27) So Campmann got a 10-8 round from 2 of the judges. If I had to guess I'd say it was round 3 but don't quote me on that.
Rogan with Campmann: He says things, they're not that interesting.
9th TNA commercial but I'd say we've seen 6 different spots. Spell check is wonderful as I fixed a lot of errors in this post, you can thank me with a large check made out to Casey Trowbridge.
Now unless Russo is booking this show, we have...
Welterweight Finals: Chris "Lights Out" Lytle Vs. Matt "Terra" Serra
I Picked: Chris Lytle although I kind of hope Serra wins just because I liked his interview on Between the Ropes
32-12-4, 5'11, 170: Chris "Lights Out" Lytle
14-4, 5'6, 170: Matt "The Terra" Serra
Referee: Herb Dean
Round 1: Apparently Serra and Lytle are also good friends. I doubt they're as close as Smith and Sell.
Serra with a flurry of foot stomps.
Crowd is clearly behind Serra...all 50 of them.
Lytle avoids Serra's takedown attempt.
Rogan breaks down the effectiveness of the foot stomp. Crowd chanting for Serra again, if this were TNA they'd be doing bogus dueling chants right about now.
Lytle takes Serra down. Serra with a nice up-kick and the fight moves back to a standing position.
Serra scores with a knee with about 30 seconds left in the round.
Scoring: Well, it was a pretty close round that I could see going either way. I'm going to give it to Lytle 10-9 because of the takedown but if you want to argue the other way I'm fine with that.
Round 2: Goldberg plugs the casting call for season 5 to be held December 1. Lightweight fighters only next season which gets about 10 big thumbs up from me.
The announcers talk about Serra and his fighting at 155. Serra is apparently a pizza man and so that makes fighting at 170 more bearable. Matt Serra is now an awesome human being in my eyes.
A pretty even round so far so much so that its hard to give an advantage to either fighter. Crowd is chanting for Serra again, either for Matt Serra or a hot girl in the front row who happens to be named Sarah, we could go either way on that one.
Chris Lytle nails some body punches and Mike Goldberg points out that Matt Serra's midsection is red. Sounds like a visit to the Dr. is in order. The round ends.
Scoring: Scoring this round is tough, even Joe Rogan says so. Both sides seemed happy when it was over as well. I think I'll give it to Lytle again 10-9 but if you go the other way that's perfectly understandable.
I think either way this third round could decide the fight.
The fans chant "Lets go Serra" making me wonder if some TNA fans snuck in to the building.
Round 3: Serra scores with an early takedown. Now it sounds like the crowd is chanting Lytle, thus adding more fuel to my TNA crowd replacement theory.
Lytle neutralized Serra on the ground as Herb Dean decides that we need to stand this fight up again.
Lytle scores with an uppercut with around 2:30 remaining in the round. Rogan wonders what good the takedown is if you can't do anything with the guy when you've got him down. Its a fair point. The announcers talk about how we could see a 4th round.
Serra is looking for 1 more takedown. Round 3 ends.
Scoring: This fight is so hard to call and all 3 rounds could go either way. I'd probably give round 3 to Serra but as I said if you go the other way I am cool with it.
Winner: Matt Serra (30-27, 27-30, 30-27)
Dana White runs down all the stuff Serra wins including the title shot. He gets the opponent right this time.
Rogan is with Serra: Serra talks about the close fight. He also gives an answer when talking about Hughes/St. Pierre unlike Hughes who claimed to be put on the spot. Serra would like to fight Hughes but thinks that St. Pierre is such a great guy its hard to pull against him.
We'll be starting in a few moments.
The show opens with Goldberg and Rogan running down the card for this evening and talking about how we got to this point. If it sounds exciting, well it must be because of how I wrote it.
