CBS-Sportsline gets it right
The above linked article, illustrates to me part of why I would rather watch UFC over the WWE any day of the week and twice on PPV nights.
Summerslam is a very well-aged card. Aside from the fact that the card scews older and ignoring the fact that only Flair and Foley hasn't been screwed up in the build, the other reason is that there is no drama. After Summerslam tonight, we're all going to sit and go, we knew that was coming, even if we didn't know we knew it was coming. Putting it in a much simpler form, who expects to be surprised by a match outcome tonight?
UFC 62 is next week. I have no idea of Renato "Babalu" Sobral is going to beat Chuck Liddell. I don't think he will, but I don't know that he won't. I also don't know if it will go 1 round or 5 or somewhere in the middle. I can guess, but that's all it would be is a guess. We will have a better handle on all the match times tonight than we will for UFC because its not predetermined.
The same drama is present in Griffin/Bonner II. Will it be as good as the ifrst fight? Can Bonner turn things around and avenge a close loss to Griffin from the season Finale of Ultimate Fighter I? Will Griffin win to setup a rematch with Tito Ortiz? What happens if Bonner is victorious? All of these are unknowns, and guess work.
As I wrote last week, wrestling can create drama. It can manipulate things to be dramatic, but it is going down the old reliable road to predictability.
