I swear I don't hate wrestling.
You know, years from now when I've got millions of blog posts from lots of different people on my website, I want this to be a post that people can come back to and reference whenever the question is asked that I'm sure will be on the minds of anyone that may read my writing in the future.
If he hates wrestling so much why does he continue to watch?
For the record, let me state this as simply as I can.
1. I do not hate the WWE.
2. I do not hate TNA Wrestling
3. Professional wrestling done right will always interest me more than MMA done right.
It is true, I bitch a lot about the WWE and TNA but it is for a very simple reason. I hate it when people have golden opportunities to do good things and choose not to.
I am frustrated with the WWE because I see that company as having limitless resources and all of the advantages a successful business could ever want. Yet, things could be a lot better. Domestic PPV buys are dropping by the month, Hughes/Graci did more buys in the U.S. than WrestleMania did in the U.S. Hughes/Graci isn't going to be the most bought UFC show of the year of that I am fairly certain so another UFC show is also going to do more domestic buys than Wrestlemania.
The reason for that is simple. UFC is not mistake free but they are capitalizing on what they have and are making it work. Maybe they'll eventually get lazy, like the WWE has gotten lazy but until that happens it is not hard to see why they trend upward.
Yes, I said it I think the WWE is lazy. I certainly do not blame them for being lazy, the reality is that they have no competition but we'll get to TNA in a moment. So, they are letting golden opportunities slip through their fingers because they can afford not to capitalize on things. Looking at summer slam you can't tell me that they couldn't have built this card up better. If they couldn't have built this card up better than they need to find people who could've. I really do want the WWE to do well, even if it makes Vince McMahon richer in the process.
Then we have TNA. This is a company with limited resources a company that is a distant number 2 and if Wrestling Society X gets on MTV I personally wouldn't be shocked if it got a better rating than TNA. If that happens, TNA deserves every bit of what they'll hear about it. This is a company that wants a 2 hour show that can't consistently get an hour right.
TNA has been handed chance after chance golden opportunity after golden opportunity and have either done nothing to take advantage of what they have been handed or have done the exact wrong thing.
I heard about the bumpers they got during ultimate fighter. The one's designed to hook people to watch Impact. Did we see LAX, the hottest thing in the company? Did we see Samoa Joe the companies rising star who main evented the show? No, we saw Mike Tenay and Don West in the ring that was decorated for a birthday party. Blown opportunity.
I'm hard on TNA because they have no right to be as lazy as WWE. WWE has earned the right to slack off by being so dominant, TNA has done nothing. I can't stand to see this company blow it time after time. Bound for Glory is another example, there should be no reason for that show to end in anything other than Samoa Joe winning the world heavyweight championship. No other ending makes as much sense as that one, so of course that isn't likely to happen at this point.
You can't waste opportunities because you don't know which opportunity will be your last, its just that simple. I want TNA to do well, I want it to be very successful because I think that benefits the business. But in TNA and WWE I'm sick of all the screw ups and blown opportunities.
I love professional wrestling as an art form when it is done right. When it is done half heartedly or just plain done wrong, then of course I will prefer well-done MMA. I will always be an advocate of Professional wrestling and for the record no matter how much I bitch about WWE messing up the build to a PPV or TNA not capitalizing on someone that's getting over, or doing the right thing for business, it doesn't mean that I hate wrestling as a whole. Just stupid decision making and I hate that in all forms of life not just wrestling.
