First Look - Shrek the Third

That link will take you to an article over at Jim Hill Media submitted by a reader who caught the first test screening of the latest in the Shrek series.

The article contains heavy spoilers so if you don't want to know then don't read.

The same is true in that I will probably talk spoilers behind the cut, but maybe not as many. So again if you continue reading, beware of spoiler talk.


First, if you read the article you will notice that the reviewer is not all together high on the picture.

I think though that it is important to keep in mind the fact that this is a test screening. A lot still has to be animated, audio still has to be mixed, there's a long way to go between today and May 18 2007, 8 months to be exact. So I think this was an interesting article on a first look but a lot can change between now and the films release.

Now, for a few of my own comments.

• So good to see another Monty Python Alumnist (Eric Idle) joining the cast.
  
  
• I really could do without Justin Timberlake in this movie. I think we all know why he's in the film anyway (Cameron Dias) but his casting seems underwhelming. We'll see how it plays out when I see the movie.
  
  
• I thought that the movie would end with Shrek finding out the Fiona is pregnant. However, according to that article, he learns this early in the film and there are Ogre babies at the end. I think I like the way I heard it better than the way its playing out.
  
  
• It seems that donkey and Puss are shunted off to the side in this film and that disappoints me greatly. The 2 most quotable characters these guys do not need to be deemphasized in my opinion.
  
  
• Sounds like there's a funny sequence involving the princess' and the villans that try to storm the castle.

I'm not ready to write this one off but the article does give me a better idea of what to expect in aproximately 8 months.
