NFL: Prosecution of Albert Haynesworth unlikely

The link will take you to the official statement on the matter.

It seems as though Haynesworth will not be prosecuted because Andre Gurode is not interested in pursuing charges.

I have more so:

I agree with PFT as to the reasons why it won't be prosecuted and why those are bad reasons.

However, on another level I have a bad feeling that the NFL is endanger of becoming like the NBA of a few years ago.

The NBA had an image problem. It was perceived to be a league full of thugs because of all of the off the court goings on in the league and the fact that the league did nothing. This contributed to the NBA's downfall, people that weren't paying attention back in the early 1990's probably didn't know that NBA basketball was probably the most popular of all the sports leagues. When Jordan left the first time it hurt, combine that with the rise of Knicks/Heat ball and that hurt some more but the fans also just got tired of hearing about who was arrested next for doing what and why.

Now, the NFL has taken over as most popular league by quite a wide margin and it is facing the same problem if things aren't done. Just Google Cincinnati Bengals + Arrested to get a sample.

Heck, just look at the PFT 2006 all-turd team for another indicator. They even have an All-Time All-Turd team and hall of fame.

The NFL is not invinsible and it needs to deal with things like the Haynesworth incident on the field and the amount of arrests off the field before it starts to lose a little luster.

I don't want to live in a country where NHL hockey is the most popular sport, and sorry to all the soccer fans, I don't want it to be soccer either (although I personally kind of enjoy the game).
