MMA: Ultimate Fighter 4 Finale - The aftermath
I hope you enjoyed the OCC live coverage as much as I enjoyed bringing the live coverage to you.
So now that the show is over, lets take a look at it.
If you didn't see the rplay I suggest giving it a look. I'm going to tape that Scott Smith Vs. Pete Sell fight.
So now that the show is over, lets take a look at it.
- The venue: I need to point this out, I'm not a fan of the Hard Rock. It doesn't seem to be "Big Time" and the crowd didn't seem too lively for a lot of the early parts of the show. I thought they were most into the Serra/Lytle fight which I attribute more to Serra.
- Best Fight: Serra Vs. Lytle may have been the closest fight but the fight I was most entertained by was the Smith Vs. Sell fight. I mean you had hugging, High-fiving and then 1 of the strangest finishes to a fight that I have ever seen. That fight turned this show around for me in that it put me in a better mood than I was in for the Dewees Vs. Rivera fights and the Clementi Vs. Thomas Fight.
- Worst Fight: Its hard for me to pick a worst fight. I'd probably have to go with Din Thomas Vs. Rich Clementi if forced but I would do so half-heartedly.
- Overall: This was a better show than I thought. It was certainly paced better than say, the season 2 Finale last year. I like that instead of showing more video packages to hype up the fights they showed dark matches. I'm always going to be in favor of more fighting less videos not that the videos don't have a place.
- Winner of the Bout: The closest decision was in the Serra Vs. Lytle fight. As I said in the live coverage it could've gone either way. Yes, I scored the fight for Lytle but its not like it wasn't so close that I can't see how someone thought Serra won. I have a harder time accepting that the decision was 30-27 in Serra's favor but whatever.
- UFC 65 Hype: Its telling that Monson and Sylvia got very little hype. However, Hughes and St. Pierre didn't do a lot to make me want to see the fight. Sure, I already wanted to see the fight because of the fact I think it will be a good one. However, I'm not a casual fan and if I were they would not have won me over. I hope the specials do a better job of hyping this up than these interviews did because they did very little for me.
- Misc. Thoughts: The first time I ever watched a complete MMA show in full was last November with the Finale of Ultimate Fighter season 2. I look at this show as the 1-year mark for me even if it has been slightly more than a year. I remember sending in feedback to the observer after the show which I greatly enjoyed and saying that I didn't feel comfortable scoring these fights because I didn't know enough. Obviously if you've read my UFC coverage lately you know that I don't have that problem anymore.
I am probably looking forward to the next season of Ultimate Fighter more than any other just because of the fact its all Lightweights. Sure, the drama of Ken Shamrock and Tito Ortiz was fun but I'm a mark for the lightweights.
Nice to see SpikeTV promoting the iMPACT time change on a show that people are watching. However, as nothing can ever really go well for TNA this will probably be the lowest rated finale of them all.
If you didn't see the rplay I suggest giving it a look. I'm going to tape that Scott Smith Vs. Pete Sell fight.
