OCC Aftermath: UFC 65 Bad Intentions
Now that the show is over, lets look at the fallout.
Overall: I don't know that I could recommend a replay of this show unless you want to say you saw the night Matt Hughes got humbled Old Country style. Sylvia and Monson basically had 3 fights, 1 boring fight that lasted rounds 1-2, 1 good fight in rounds 3-4 and then a beyond all description of terrible fight that was round 5.
Some fun stuff on the undercard and a really nice Irwin match helped this from being a not bad show, but it doesn't rank as an all-time all my life classic either.
- Best Fight: Matt Hughes Vs. Georges St. Pierre.
How can a 1-sided ass beating and Old Country Humbling be fight of the night? When the domination is so completely unexpected the tension is so thick and the crowd is so into it. In terms of an even fight, the Irwin Vs. Ramirez fight would win fight of the night honors but just like good ring-work doesn't sell PPV buys for wrestling matches technical skill doesn't always rule the day in MMA contests. - Worst Fight: Tim Sylvia and Jeff Monson. Round 3 was great and 4 was good. Round 1 and round 2 sucked out loud and round 5 made me beg for round 2. Sylvia joins Frank Mir on the hate list, because he had Monson tired in round 5 and did absolutely nothing. He knew he'd take the decision and didn't want to do anything stupid. Hey Sylvia, as a wise man once said better to lose an entertaining fight than win a snoozefest. The only good thing to come out of this fight is that bad fights make Scott entertaining.
- Happiest Decision: Frank Mir is humbled by Brandon Vera. I'm happy because Mir bores me and because Vera entertains me and I want to see Vera kick Sylvia's ass. If this fight goes five rounds Vera will show Sylvia how to finish, damn I hate Sylvia.
- Biggest Question: Will Hughes retire? I don't know if he will or won't. If he is a competitor he won't want to have his last fight go down as a humbling loss to GSP. I mean I was very close to giving the first round to Hughes 10-8 because of the handling he took.
- Standings out of tonight's preview.
Casey: 6-3
Art: 4-5
Euan: 4-5
Sheik: 3-6
