TNA iMPACT 03/08/2007 Live Coverage

Welcome to coverage of TNA iMPACT that is maybe just a bit less offensive than our preview podcast of Destination X, which you can download from Here and vote for us at Podcast alley by Clicking here heck even if you don't listen to it, vote for us for recognition purposes...it only takes a second. Think of it as a way of showing appreciation for these recaps.

TNA...We, are about to lose the rights to the NWA world and Tag team titles, and we're hoping nobody notices enough to care.

Hey, I think on that one they might be right.

We start with a recap of last week which I didn't see.

We start with Joe in the ring and Angle is speaking. Angle says he's not on Joe's christmas card list, I'm guessing it is a source of bitterness for him.
Angle will be Joe's biggest fan at the PPV because he wants to wrestle Joe for the title. Angle says they have unresolved issues, but I seem to remember Angle saying that the Ironman match would be the last match. Of course, I remember him saying that after the first match but now is not the time for logic.

Christian Cage's music hits and he heads out to the ring because Vince Russo asked him to go golfing and that frightens him. If you listen to the podcast, you know why.

Crowd chants "What", after every Christian statement. He introduces Steiner and Tomko as the Christian coalition. He tells them to find a partner for some 6 man action. I hate to see team RECK breakup.

Angle says he's got a partner who everyone would call crazy. I'm guessing Norman the Lunatic, but we'll have to wait to see if I'm right.

We have VKM and Lance Hoyt Vs. Serotonin and Robert Roode, Eric Young and James Storm against some X-division guys. It is a night of 6 man tag matches.

Match 1: VKM/Lance Hoyt Vs. Serotonin

Gee, I wonder who will win?

Serotonin gets new names. Kazarian = Kaz, Matt Bentley = Marter and Johnny Devine = Havoc. I didn't know Devine was an American Gladiator but now I do. Speaking of American Gladiators you can find out what Vince Russo's favorite game was and why by listening to the podcast.

Hoyt hits the Texas Tornado Slam and gets the pin.

Winners: Lance Hoyt and VKM

Here comes Raven, I can't imagine what for though.
Marter and Havoc take the cane shots, but Kaz is like "This makes no logical sense', and then he's like "Oh yeah, forgot where I was again", and he assumes the position. Speaking of assuming the position and I just was you can find out what positions Russo likes by listening to the ACE Preview of Destination X.

Backstage with Christian and his gang. Christian asks who's idea the 6-man was and Tomko says it was his. Christian then chastizes him for pointing fingers, cute. Then Christian asks Steiner who Angle's third partner is and Steiner protests that he's not Quazimoto. Christian thinks it is Abyss and Steiner asks him if he is on crack. Christian wants Tomko to come with him to talk to Abyss, but Tomko won't unless he gets a title shot.

Christian's interview was pretty funny.

Commercial Break!! We see a commercial for Bill Goldberg's new show.

I can't wait for the internet headline ###***|||}}}Huge *exclusive* News ***Bill Goldberg connected to TNA Wrestling}}}|||***###

AJ Styles and Rhino in Elevation X at Destination X, and you can hear what bad things we expect to happen just by listening to the preview podcast.

Mike Tenay is in the ring and introduces Hector Guerrero as the newest member of the TNA family. He doesn't come out dressed like a chicken and to the song turky in the straw but if he did it would be awesome.

Lazor-tron is in the house!

Hector says he is humbled by Mike Tenay's gracious introduction. Yes folks Hector Guerrero says that he has been humbled. Somewhere Sheiky is lighting a cigarette.

He says some stuff in Spanish. He is presented with a plaque of some sort and Abyss is none too happy about the TNA spanish legasy foundation so he's coming to put a stop to it.

Abyss is starring at So-Cal Val and he takes the plaque. He then gives Val te Black Hole slam as Don West protests at ringside. Speaking of West, if you want to know what he's like at the grocery store, listen to the ACE preview of Destination X.

Christian Cage and Samoa Joe video package. Nothing will stop Joe from taking the belt from Christian. If he says so.

Commercial Break!!!
That segment was pretty short and pointless.

Destination X commercial airs, running down the top 3 matches. Cage Vs. Joe is "for the most prestegious title in wrestling". Must've been taped before they decided the split was official.

Backstage in Jim Cornette's office. He signs James Storm and Ms. Jacqi vs. Petey Williams and Gail Kim in a double bullrope match. Sabin Vs. Lynn is 2/3 falls. Austin Starr Vs. Senshi in a match that can only be won by using the chickenwing. Christy wants a match, her team against VKM and she gets it.

It is too soon to be the Bashams who I heard were being considered.

Match 2: Robert Roode, Eric Young and James Storm Vs. Jay Lethal, Petey Williams and Sonjay Dutt.

Lethal hits us with some Randy Savage to the disapproval of the heels, but Eric Young liked it. Young doesn't want to attack his opponents.

They plug the preshow and Robert Roode/Eric Young coming out on the black and blue carpet. That's the first plug for a preshow I've ever heard, of course they don't say when it is on or how you can find the channel, so I guess they're taking a cue from Bodog.

Williams hits a DDT, for a nearfall. A nearfall is later broken up by Robert Roode. This match has no heat.

Gail Kim runs out to the ring and that makes me happy. This distraction allows James Storm to hit the superkick and gets the pin.

Winners: Roode, Storm and Young.

Christian is trying to talk to Abyss. In Christian's own way he tries to butter up to Abyss and the results aren't exactly on the level. Abyss: "AAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGG!" That's what I'll be saying after this PPV.
Christian's peace offering is not well received.

Commercial Break!!!

A highlight package of the LAX attack on Johnny Rods and Brother Ray's response. Ray: "Why would you do something like that?" Me: "Cause, they're not nice people."

Mike Tenay runs down the Destination X card. Not to the level that Euan, Art and I did on the podcast though.

Match 3: Scott Steiner, Tomko and Christian Cage Vs. Kurt Angle, Samoa Joe and Rhino.

Hmmm, I wonder if AJ Styles will run-in?

The face team was not introduced until after the commercial break. My ESPN told me it would be Rhino, cause I'm not the type to look at spoilers.

Yeah, AJ Styles comes to the ring and Rhino chases him off as we go to a commercial break!!

We're back with Tenay calling this the Dream 6-man tag match. Ok, fess up who dreams about 6 man tag matches? That sounds kinda gay to me.

Ankle lock by Angle, Gore from Rhino and a palmthrust from Joe and the faces are kicking some ass. Angle has Steiner in an Anklelock and before Steiner taps Abyss hits the ring for the DQ.

Sting's music hits and he's messing with Abyss' head according to Tenay. Show ends as Sting hits the ring.

My Thoughts: This was a far better go-home show than Against All Odds got. The card looks better as well, but they still have too damn many gimmick matches. This show was ok, but Ok doesn't pay the bills.

Now, for the next 2 weeks Wade will be handling iMPACT chors. I will be busy watching the NCAA basketball tournament so he'll have this show covered. However, that means...I will be recapping ECW the next 2 Tuesday nights. So join me then.
