TNA to lose rights to NWA Championships

According to Mike Johnson of PwInsider.com TNA and the National Wrestling Alliance are working on coming to terms which would be in the best interests of both sides and result in TNA losing the rights to the NWA World and Tag Team championships.

The move is primarily a financial consideration, as TNA is starting to run more and more house shows, the question of whether TNA would have to pay a fee to any NWA promoter in a territory where they held an NWA world title defense.

TNA originally licensed the rights to the belts before their launch in 2002, though they have gradually phased out the NWA name in the years to follow.

On TNA television, expect new belts to appear and that all champions will be referred to as TNA champions. As for the NWA titles, it is widely rumored (and Johnson reports) that Bryan Danielson is in line to be the next NWA world Heavyweight champion, with no decision having been made regarding the tag belts.

This will go down sooner than later.
