SUN's Art Of War 2 Delivers MMA Stars, Major Upset And Explosive Action In Austin
Crowds Standing Throughout Event
DALLAS, TX -- May 15, 2007 -- Coming off a exciting debut event in Dallas earlier this year, the successful emergence of SUN Sports & Entertainment's (PINKSHEETS:
SSPE) ART OF WAR Undisputed Arena Fighting Championships, continued this past Friday night (May 11th) at the Austin Convention Center, in Austin, TX.
ART OF WAR 2, which featured mixed-martial arts stars Wes Sims, David Loiseau, and Alex Andrade, matched the explosive action of the inaugural ART OF WAR
event, as Austin fight fans stood throughout this night of exciting MMA entertainment.
Former three-time UFC fighter Wes Sims entered as the main event versus USWF veteran Chris Guillen as a heavy favorite, but in the end was the victim of
a huge upset. Guillen, who stands six-foot tall, gave the towering 6' 10" Sims more than he could handle in winning a shocking 3-round unanimous decision.
The hard fought win by Guillen over Sims will go down as one of MMA's biggest upsets of 2007.
The main event was the only fight of the night to go the distance, as fans were treated to explosive action throughout.
A veteran of seven UFC fights, David "The Crow" Loiseau put on a clinic when he slammed and punched his way to a knockout victory over local favorite --
Freddie Espiricueta. From the outset, Espiricueta put on a spirited effort, but couldn't overcome a text book arm-triangle that forced him to tap-out at
3:10 of the second round.
Former Pride and UFC star Alex Andrade continued his comeback. After knocking out European champion Klas Akensson last March 9th in ART OF WAR 1 (Dallas),
Andrade followed up with another impressive win -- this time over Austin's highly regarded Brandon McDowell in ART OF WAR 2. Andrade landed numerous shots
down the pipe before dropping down into an ankle lock that had McDowell grimacing in pain and forced a tap at 1:02 of the first.
Overall, the ten bouts proved to be more than enough action for the fight fans, according to SUN CEO, C.J. Comu.
"We couldn't have asked for a better night of fighting," said a thrilled Comu, afterwards. "Not only did we have one of the biggest upsets of the year in
the main event with Guillen beating Sims, but pretty much every fight on the card was high drama for the fans. Once again we proved that ART OF WAR is
a quality product."
Comu feels that the momentum from ART OF WAR 1 and ART OF WAR 2 will carry over into SUN's next event, ART OF WAR 3, which will be back in Dallas, TX at
the American Airlines Center on June 30th 2007 and available on Pay-Per-View.
