Star athletes Ben Rothwell, Rory Markham, Jamal Patterson, Mark Miller and Brian Foster, world champion Quad City Silverbacks Coach Pat Miletich and New
York Pitbulls coach Renzo Gracie to meet, thank and entertain troops
NEW YORK, May 14, 2007 – The International Fight League (OTC.BB: IFLI), the world’s number one team-based professional mixed martial arts league, announced
the latest in a series of events honoring United States servicemen and women. IFL coaches and athletes, including undefeated heavyweight Ben Rothwell (Kenosha,
Wis.) of the Quad Cities Silverbacks and military vets Mark Miller (Chicago, Ill.) of the Chicago Red Bears and Josh Odom (Tallahassee, Fla.) and Brian
Foster (Moreno Valley, Calif.) of the San Jose Razorclaws, will be joined by “IFL Battleground” host Tiffany Fallon in a unique embark opportunity aboard
ship as the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard come to New York for Fleet Week.
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to show our support for our troops and thank them for their service in their own environment, on board ship as
they transit to Fleet Week New York. We feel honored to do so,” said Kurt Otto, IFL co-founder and commissioner. “We are also proud to have our staff and
our athletes participate in the event at Webster Hall on Friday, which will give us the opportunity to honor an even larger group which has come to New
York for the annual festivities.”
On Monday, May 21, the athletes, Miletich and Fallon will board the USS Winston Churchill and the USS Wasp for the two-day trip from Norfolk, Va., to New
York Harbor. The athletes will partake in everyday life with the crew: visiting their work spaces and holding special meet-and-greet events. They will
also demonstrate some self-defense techniques for all those on board. On Tuesday night, Gracie and his team will fly out to other ships for similar opportunities.
All will participate in the opening ceremonies for Fleet Week on May 23, as the Parade of Ships takes place in New York Harbor. Then on Friday, May 25,
Gracie and his team will join IFL ring girls and 2007 Miss Maine, Karissa Staples, for a meet and greet at Webster Hall. “IFL Battleground” cameras will
also be on board to record the events for the show, which airs nationally on MyNetworkTV.
The Fleet Week activities are the latest in a series of events the IFL is undertaking to honor the military. Others include clinics this week in Chicago
prior to the event on May 19 at the Sears Centre, and an event for troops in the Pacific Northwest prior to the IFL card in Everett, Wash., on June 1.
Additional activities will be announced in the coming weeks.
