Touted as a fight of the year contender Horodecki-Lierley aired on FSN on Friday. It will air on IFL Battleground soon as well.

Heavyweight Krzysztof Soszynski claims to be a new man in his rematch with Ben Rothwell. Well, if he's a new man is it really a rematch?

The best reason for the IFL to exist is Dear Don and he had a holiday edition.

MMA News and Notes for 07/03/2007

Its gearing up to be a busy week with UFC 73 this weekend.

I remind everyone of our roundtable preview where you can read and laugh at our picks and submit your own.

The rest of the news is behind the cut:

A lot of articles dealing with men fighting on the UFC 73 show.

UFC.com looks at Frank Edgar Stephan BonnarAntonio Rodrigo "Minautoro" Nogueira and Sean Sherk

The site also has breakdowns of:
Hermes Franca Vs. Sean Sherk and Nate Marquardt Vs. Anderson Silva

Looking around the web at other stuff...

K-1 Hero's 9 is beginning to take shape highlighting this event will be the first round of the 155 LB Grand Prix.

Even though I mentioned it last week more confirmation of David Heath Vs. Renato "Babalu" Sobral at UFC 74.

Back to UFC 73 as Yahoo Sports has its own writeup on Frank "The Answer" Edgar

Steve Sievert of the Houston Chronicle mentions that the IFL got permission from shareholders to release more stock

The IFL also announced an online photo store

Sam Caplan has the IFL semi-final matchups all I can say is Horodecki-Palaszewski II!

The latest on Joe Riggs is here

Mauro Ranallo had an interview with Brandon Vera on Fight Network Radio today which you can hear along with other episodes of the show here

Tim Sylvia says he'll return in October and Euan and I were hoping to make fun of he and Travis Lutter in the same roundtable.

Is Pride's Light Heavyweight Champion Dan Henderson Vs. UFC's Light Heavyweight Champion Quinton Jackson going to be non-title bout?

Phil Baroni has words for Dana White.

UFC will be welcoming some familiar faces soon.

There's more out there to be sure, but this will due for now.

MMA News and Notes for 06/27

All the MMA News I could stand to gather for the moment is behind the cut.

Ken Shamrock says he got his formal release from the UFC on Fight Network Radio.

Nick Diaz calls out Frank Shamrock.

Travis Lutter to fight at UFC 74 I'm sure that Euan, Art and myself will not make any weight jokes during our UFC 74 roundtable. Actually, I'm pretty sure we're all going to start brainstorming them...mmmm....mmmm....mmmm....now.

I guess IFL Battleground has another new direction has it really been 3 weeks already?

The TUF Five Finale ratings are in and all things considered are pretty good.

Matt Hughes says he'll fight in December

Jason Probst breaks down Franca Vs. Sherk

Cro Cop Vs. Kongo is official for UFC 75.

UFC finally got around to announcing UFC 74 I was beginning to think they'd wait until the day after it was over.

Entrepreneur magazine wants us to meet Dana White

Is Drew Fickett out of UFC 73? and his scheduled bout with Chris "Lights Out" Lytle.

Jamal Patterson, New York Pitbulls Light Heavyweight Blog is here

Tokyo Saber Heavyweight Wayne Cole wants a shot at redemption Get a load of his injury story and try not to laugh...I failed.

The best of the best in IFL 2007 is here and while I've not looked at the list, Battleground had better only be mentioned in passing. Well, the first episode which was so great they apologized for it should be on the list as best fuck up.

Phil Baroni is out for 6 or 7 months

Salaries and attendance for Shamrock Vs. Baroni are here

The Smashing Machine Mark Kerr will fight for the Global Fighting Championships in August. Some other known names are on the card, and Sean O'Haire is listed as well...so I guess he's gotten out of jail after the last time he got his ass kicked.

Some guy named Jorge Ortiz tested positive for steriods However, Tito Santiago was clean. Ric may be the only one that laughs at that, if anyone does.

A Q&A with Mauricio "Shogun" Rua is here

Wayne McCullough talks MMA here and get a load of his nickname...it is the new best ever.

A Notes from Brazil column here

That's enough for now.

Pitbulls, Lions Win At IFL Las Vegas; Playoff Seeds Set

LAS VEGAS, June 16, 2007 – The New York Pitbulls and host Nevada Lions claimed victories in the final 2007 regular-season International Fight League matches for each team, before a sold-out crowd of 3,200 at the Las Vegas Hilton. The Pitbulls took out the Toronto Dragons, 3-2, while the Lions scored a 4-1 win over the Tucson Scorpions.

With the win, the Pitbulls (3-0 team, 10-5 individual) have qualified for the four-team IFL Playoffs, which will begin on August 2 (semifinals, E. Rutherford, N.J.), where they will be the No. 2 seed and will take on the third-seeded Tokyo Sabres (3-0, 9-6). The top-seeded L.A. Anacondas (3-0, 11-4) will battle the No. 4 seeds, the Quad Cities Silverbacks (2-1, 9-6) in the other semifinal in New Jersey. The defeat eliminated the Dragons (1-2, 8-7) from contention.

In the first matchup, the Dragons’ Brent Beauparlant (Montreal, Quebec) defeated Fabio Leopoldo (Sao Paulo, Brazil) in the middleweight bout via TKO when Leopoldo injured his shoulder during the third round of what had been a very competitive bout, for a 1-0 Toronto lead. Light heavyweight Andre Gusmao (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) tapped out Wojtek Kaszowski (Winnipeg, Manitoba) with just seconds left in the first round to even things at 1-1.

In the pivotal lightweight fight, Wagnney Fabiano (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) made quick work of Erik Owings (New York) in a battle of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu experts, gaining a victory by armbar submission a minute into the first round to put the Dragons up, 2-1. Delson Heleno (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) earned a second-round welterweight submission victory for the Pitbulls over Gideon Ray (Roselle, Ill.) by armbar, evening the match at two wins apiece. In the decisive heavyweight bout, with his team’s season on the line, the Pitbulls’ Marcio Cruz (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) won by disqualification from Rafael Feijao (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), after Feijao committed a second illegal head-kick, to propel Renzo Gracie’s squad into the playoffs.

In the nightcap, Daniel Molina (Carson City, Nev.) put the host Lions (2-1, 8-7) on top with a submission victory, heel hooking Seth Baczynski (Phoenix) of the Scorpions (0-3, 4-11) in the middleweight bout. At welterweight, Pat Healy (St. Louis) scored a split decision over Mike Guymon (Lake Forest, Calif.) to double the Lions’ edge to 2-0. John Gunderson (Medford, Ore.) secured the Lions’ victory with a late second-round submission win over Gabe Casillas (Tucson, Ariz.) in the lightweight bout. Hometown favorite Roy Nelson (Las Vegas) was dominant in his unanimous heavyweight verdict over Shane Ott (Reading, Pa.), adding to the Lions’ lead. Mike Whitehead (Central Point, Ore.) salvaged the final point for the Scorpions by defeating Vernon White (East Palo Alto, Calif.) via second-round TKO.

In the preliminary bout which preceded the regular team competition, Rick Reeves (Reno, Nev.) of the Lions defeated Chris Kennedy (Las Vegas) of the Scorpions via unanimous decision in a welterweight battle fought mostly on the ground.

I think I understand why the IFL would partner with topps

Earlier today, I posted a press release from the IFL regarding partnering with Topps to sell trading cards of the company's athletes.

this article but there's more as this article suggests Upper Deck is not out of the picture to purchase the company and in another follow up article topps now being sued by Upper Deck

It would seem that Topps is in quite a bit of turmoil. Kind of makes it a natural business partner for the strapped for cash IFL.

Yours truly has at one time collected cards from: Baseball, Football, Basketball and Hockey. I've also purchased my fair share of wrestling cards.

From what I've been able to gather from the brief research I've done since seeing the IFL's press release, the industry is in a world of hurt. I've not collected cards since college called my name back in 1999 but this news would hardly come as a shock to me. When I was in High-school, I remember the price of cards going up, while the number of cards per pack is going down. Lets face facts, if you're going to spend $50, will you buy trading cards that are at best something you can apraise and store somewhere, or will you buy a video game for the same sport at the same cost which you can actually use in an interactive sort of way?

If you're the International Fight League, you'd better have gotten a good price for the license to your product to begin with because you're not going to see any kind of profit off of sales. I don't really know about the state of football cards, but I know that Baseball is really hurting now and MLB is certainly more well-known among the public than the IFL. I don't think that UFC would stand to gain much from a card deal and they're way more well-known than the IFL. Though I would admit, a 3-D card of Rashad Evans clobbering Sean Salmon would be kinda cool.

It doesn't work for wrestling either. Remember that TNA once had a trading card deal? of course you don't and it is not your fault and not really TNA's either. Did you know that you can buy WWE cards ironically enough made by Topps. I'm not sure how old these are, or if Topps still holds the WWE license, and I really don't care, the point is that how many wrestling fans buy these? I'm guessing not many, and you never see WWE advertise their existance.

If the IFL wants to make money off of this, they should really see if Topps will make IFL flavored gum or candy. I don't chew gum regularly but I'm far more likely to do that than buy a pack of IFL cards.

Each team could have their own flavor or something...and of course there's always power-Palaszewski gum as a possibility. Now how cool would that be?

Now how many sites are going to come right out and tell you that this means basically nothing? We here at the times are committed to finding the truth provided it is easy to find and we're not doing something else.

IFL Enters Partnership and Licensing Agreement with the Topps Company

World’s Number One Team-Based Mixed Martial Arts League Joins With The World’s Preeminent Brand in Collectible Trading Cards

NEW YORK, June 11, 2007 – The International Fight League (OTC.BB: IFLI), the world’s number one team-based professional mixed martial arts league, today announced a multi-year strategic partnership and licensing agreement with The Topps Company, one of the most storied brands in sports collectibles.
The partnership will include the first-ever line of cards featuring IFL coaches and athletes, and will capture the league’s action and personalities in a collectible, consumer friendly, and high-quality format.

“We are very excited to begin this relationship with Topps, one of the most storied brands in the card business,” said Gareb Shamus, IFL co-founder and CEO. “This partnership is the latest in a series of moves by the sport of MMA and the IFL brand that shows how the sport will be able to reach a larger audience with compelling and unique content. It will be great way to showcase our stars through a combination of traditional trading cards, unique collectibles and new media projects.”

“The sport of Mixed Martial Arts is exciting and rapidly growing, and we are proud to partner with the IFL, their world class coaches and rising stars to make our entry in the sport,” said Ira Friedman, Topps’ vice president of publishing and licensing. “We have looked for the right entry point for the MMA category from a collectible standpoint, and feel that the IFL model is the best fit for both now and for the long term.”

The first Topps IFL branded product is currently in development. The card marketer plans its initial presentations to customers during the fourth quarter of 2007, with an expanded program in 2008 and beyond.

Topps joins an ever-growing group of IFL partners that include Microsoft Xbox, Brothers Apparel, Headline Headgear, Sandals Resorts, Warner Home Video, Dale and Thomas Popcorn, Fairtex Equipment and HeadBlade shaving products.

IFL events are televised weekly on FSN (Fridays at 11 p.m.) and Mondays at 8 p.m. Eastern and Pacific/7 p.m. Central on MyNetworkTV “IFL Battleground.”

Both Reach Finals To Earn Berths On Squad Which Will Represent USA In Turkey; Partnership Strengthens As Hundreds Learn More About League Through Clinics, USA Wrestling Fan Fest

LAS VEGAS, June 10, 2007 – Three athletes from the International Fight League (OTC.BB: IFLI), the world’s number one team-based professional mixed martial arts league, competed over the weekend at the USA Wrestling Team Trials, vying for spots in the Wrestling World Games in Ankara, Turkey, in September. Portland Wolfpack middleweight Matt Horwich (Portland, Ore.) and New York Pitbulls heavyweight Bryan Vetell (New York) both earned spots on the first-ever USA Grappling Team which will represent the USA by reaching the finals of their respective weight classes before falling, while Wolfpack assistant coach and former IFL athlete Dennis Hallman (Yelm, Wash,) advanced to the semifinals.

The IFL had a major presence at the event off the mat as well, participating at the 2007 USA Wrestling Fan Fest. Wolfpack Head Coach Matt Lindland (Portland, Ore.) conducted a pair of MMA clinics, along with IFL stars Horwich, Roy Nelson (Las Vegas) of the Reno Lions and Jay Hieron (Las Vegas) of the Los Angeles Anacondas. In addition to demonstrating grappling techniques as they apply to wrestling and MMA, the four also signed autographs and met hundreds of fans over the two days.

“This weekend further strengthened the partnership between the IFL and USA Wrestling,” said Kurt Otto, IFL Commissioner, who attended the matches and Fan Fest. “It was gratifying to see how many folks were already regular followers of the IFL, and I think we’ve made quite a few new fans as well.”

MMA News and Notes for 06/10

All of the good stuff, and there's not a lot, but a few things of note, are behind the cut.

MMAWeekly has a column looking at the Brazilian scene

It's a must win situation for the IFL's Reno Lions and John Gunderson this coming Saturday. It is also must make money and in a freakin hurry for the IFL.

Global War results here for the none of you who care. Although props to Gladiator Challenge for managing to localize a global war to Farmington, New Mexico thus sparing the rest of us the horrors of such a war.

Jens Pulver's reaction to episode 10 of the Ultimate Fighter 5 is here

Joe Lauzon's for the Boston Herald is here

Not much on a Sunday, but between this and the few posts prior it should be enough. Back later, if necessary.

IFL Caps Record Week By Breaking Attendance Mark In State Of Washington

World’s Number One Team-Based Mixed Martial Arts League Adds Eight New Episodes of “IFL Battleground” on MyNetworkTV, Announces September On-Sale Date For
First Warner Home Video and Breaks Washington State Attendance Mark for Boxing and MMA, Highlighted by 2007’s “Best Fight” Between Undefeated Rising Stars
Chris Horodecki and Shad Lierley

NEW YORK, June 4, 2007 – The International Fight League (OTC.BB: IFLI), the world’s number one team-based professional mixed martial arts league, completed
one of the busiest weeks in its one-year history with a number of landmark announcements. Capping the week was a near-sellout crowd of 6,977 on Friday
night at the Everett Events Center just outside Seattle, the largest crowd ever to see an MMA or boxing event in state history.

“May will go down as one of the landmark months for the sport of Mixed Martial Arts, and our outstanding events in Chicago and Everett show that the IFL
brand is growing exponentially, with more to come,” said Gareb Shamus, IFL co-founder and CEO. “With a growing number of long-term partners like Warner
Home Video, MyNetworkTV, Microsoft Xbox, FSN and new partner HeadBlade, not to mention our world champion coaches and outstanding athletes, we are just
getting started.”

In addition to record crowd, Friday night saw one of the strongest fight cards in MMA in 2007, as the Los Angeles Anacondas and Tokyo Sabres both posted
wins to advance to the IFL playoffs August 2 at the Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The highlight fight of the night saw the
Anacondas’ undefeated lightweight Chris Horodecki take a decision from the Seattle Tiger Sharks’ previously unbeaten former New York University wrestler
Shad Lierley, a fight which announcers Stephen Quadros and Bas Rutten both dubbed the best fight of the year in 2007.

“That fight showed everyone what the IFL is all about,” said Rutten. “You had two different styles go against each other in a very competitive weight class,
and both athletes traded punches, kicks and other moves for every second of the three rounds. It is a fight that all MMA fans who weren’t there will need
to see on MyNetworkTV and FSN. It was the continued emergence of two of the next stars of the sport.”

The IFL has now drawn the largest MMA audience in the states of Illinois (Moline), Oregon (Portland) and Georgia (Gwinnett) in addition to its record in
Everett, all in the past seven months.

The in- and out-of-the-ring successes in Washington for the IFL were not the only highlights of the week. Earlier, MyNetworkTV announced that “IFL Battleground,”
hosted by Rutten and Tiffany Fallon, will be a key anchor for its fall lineup. The show, which has seen the new network dramatically increase its viewership

Top IFL Stars Shine On Friday Night On FSN

Jay Hieron, Chris Horodecki, Vladimir Matyushenko, Ben Rothwell Featured In “Meet the Stars” Special

NEW YORK, June 5, 2007- The International Fight League (OTC.BB: IFLI), the world’s number one professional mixed martial arts league, takes a look at some
of the circuit’s most exciting athletes, including Jay Hieron and Chris Horodecki of the Los Angeles Anacondas, Vladimir Matyushenko of the Tokyo Sabres
and Ben Rothwell of the defending champion Quad Cities Silverbacks in the latest episode seen on Fox Sports Net this week. The show debuts across the FSN
Regional Networks on Friday, June 8, at 11 p.m. in most markets.

Friday’s show features bout action and behind-the-scenes interviews with the four stars. Hieron, Horodecki, Matyushenko and Rothwell have been stalwarts
in the IFL, which concludes its inaugural regular season this month, with playoffs set for August and September.

Hieron, one of the league’s standout welterweights, is a master of quick finishes, with three of his four IFL victories coming in the first round, via three
different types of chokes. The New York native and Las Vegas resident has helped lead the Anacondas to a 3-0 team record and qualification for the IFL
playoffs. Horodecki, at 19 the youngest athlete in the IFL, is an explosive lightweight with an exciting style who has treated fans to some of the most-talked-about
fights in IFL history. The London, Ontario native’s February bout with the Silverbacks’ Bart Palaszewski has been talked about as an early candidate for
MMA fight of the year, and is among the action on Friday’s show.

The upstart Tokyo Sabres turned a winless 2006 into an undefeated 2007, and veteran light heavyweight Matyushenko from Belarus has been a major force in
that turnaround. Unbeaten in three IFL bouts and boasting an 18-3 overall mark, the well-rounded athlete came to the U.S. more than a decade ago with little
money and speaking no English but has utilized his talents to become one of the world’s best MMA stars.

Dubbed “The North Star,” Rothwell has been the IFL’s premier heavyweight since the league’s first event last April. His imposing physical presence is complemented
by quickness and flexibility usually seen in lower weight classes. His powerful high kicks and boxing skills are highlighted in the episode.

This week’s show is the first in a series of “Meet the Stars” programs that will highlight the up-and-coming stars of the mixed martial arts world this
summer. A preview of the program, along with the the IFL on FSN schedule, with dates and times on each Regional FSN network, can be seen at http://www.ifl.tv/TV-Schedule.html.
Viewers can also check their local schedule at http://msn.foxsports.com/tv/schedule.

The FSN schedule will continue each Friday, following the order of IFL events through the regular season. Regular event programming resumes on June 16 with
the Condors-Razorclaws matchup from last month in Chicago.

The 22 hours of original programming scheduled on FSN this year represents nearly 70% more than the 13 hours shown in 2006, when the network aired three
hours of coverage of the IFL Legends Championship in May and June and followed up with 10 hours of IFL World Team Championship action, September through
December.

The FSN coverage is in addition to the 22, two-hour episodes of “International Fight League Battleground,” seen on over-the-air MyNetworkTV nationwide every
Monday (8 p.m. ET/PT).

In all, a minimum of 67 hours of original IFL programming are scheduled to run on the two networks, which together reach more than 95% of U.S. television
households.

The upcoming schedule of matchups on each FSN debut date is as follows:

June 15, Condors vs. Razorclaws (Chicago, May 19)
June 22, Red Bears vs. Silverbacks (Chicago, May 19)
June 29, Sabres vs. Wolfpack (Everett, Wash., June 1)
July 6, Anacondas vs. Tiger Sharks (Everett, Wash., June 1)

Each of the nine regular season IFL events will consist of four teams – each with an athlete in all five weight classes competing. The team that wins the
best three of five match setup will be declared the team winner for the match, similar to collegiate and high school wrestling meets. The IFL also differs
from other MMA organizations in that the bouts are held in an oversized five-rope boxing ring with three, four-minute rounds, each designed to create the
most compelling in-arena experience for local fans.

Each of the 12 IFL teams for 2007 will compete in three regular season events; the teams with the top four overall win-loss team records will advance to
the semi-finals, which will be held on Thursday, August 2, at Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, N.J. The 2007 IFL Finals will then be held
at The Forum in Los Angeles on Saturday, September 15.

IFL Coaching Legends To Visit Troops On USO Tour To Persian Gulf Region

ARLINGTON, Va., June 6, 2007 – The International Fight League (IFL), the world’s number one mixed martial arts league, will have two of its world champion
coaches—the Quad Cities Silverbacks’ Pat Miletich and Tucson Scorpions’ Don Frye, along with reigning PRIDE world champion and Portland Wolfpack assistant
coach Dan Henderson—embark on a USO tour to the Persian Gulf region in late June. These three legends will visit with service members and perform demonstrations
of their fighting techniques to the troops. The tour is co-sponsored by U.S. Army Europe.

The International Fight League, based in New York and Las Vegas, differs from other MMA organizations, with teams of five world class athletes competing
against another team of five athletes in a best three-of-five matchup over a six month regular season. The IFL competes in a ring as opposed to a cage,
and has outlawed many of the moves that cause excess blood, such as elbows to the head, while emphasizing strategy and athletic technique. The 12 teams
in 2007, 10 in the United States, one from Japan and one from Canada, are each coached by a former world champion and are made up of the newest wave of
MMA rising stars, like undefeated lightweight Chris Horodecki of the L.A. Anacondas, light heavyweight Jamal Patterson of the New York Pitbulls and Quad
Cities’ undefeated heavyweight Ben Rothwell. This trip is the latest in a series of IFL events with service men and women. Others recently have included
clinics in Everett, Wash., and Chicago, a meet-and-greet at the U.S. submarine base in Groton, Conn., and a series of clinics and events aboard ships leading
into Fleet Week New York 2007. More events are also planned for the near future.

The IFL is seen weekly in the United States on Fox Sports Net (Fridays at 11 p.m.) and on MyNetworkTV’s “IFL Battleground,” Monday nights at 8 p.m. Eastern
and Pacific and 7 p.m. Central time. For more information on the IFL, log on to ifl.tv.

The trip continues the USO tradition of bringing professional athletes and sports-related events to troops serving far from home. Previous tours this year
include NFL players Drew Brees and Donnie Edwards meeting service members in Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates.

The USO’s Operation Hardwood series groups NCAA basketball coaches with service members in a tournament setting. In addition, the USO – as part of its Operation
Links tour – brought professional golfers to bases in Kuwait and Iraq to visit troops during Thanksgiving.

USO tours are sponsored by AT&T, Inc., the official telecommunications sponsor of USO entertainment tours.
