Voice Cast for Ratatouille

The link above is to ComingSoon.net and the list of actors that will provide voices for the next Pixar film Ratatouille.

I'm not really going to comment on the cast themselves.

The point that I want to make is that one of the reasons I love Pixar and prefer its films to any other studios films is due in large part to the way they cast voices for their films.

Dreamworks casts celebrities like WCW casted celebrities. They tend for big name stars that don't necessarily fit the roles that they are cast as as well as they should although Over the Hedge was a real improvement in this regard. Shark Tale was the low-point of the problem that's for sure.

Pixar has always forgone the biggest names possible to get the right people. Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, and Sara Vowell weren't exactly the biggest names that Pixar could've got for the Incredibles but it just wouldn't have been the same if it were anyone else. Owen Wilson was perfect as Lightning McQueen in Cars and was cast well before Wedding Crashers boosted his stock. Mater just wouldn't have worked as well if it weren't for the work of Larry the Cable Guy.

Sure, Toy Story 1 and 2 had Tom Hanks and Tim Allen but the rest of the cast wasn't filled with bigtime box office headliners at the time those films were released.

So, while I'm not sure of how well the film will do at the Box Office or even wonder how much I will enjoy it, I have no doubt that when its over I will say yet again that they found people that were perfect for their roles.
