TNA Destination X 07 Live Coverage

Welcome to the first ever TNA PPV live coverage from my own home. This doesn't mean too much, I just wanted to let everybody know.

TNA. We Are...We Are.



Somebody should have a sign that says "My sign was approved by TNA Management."
Team 3D take on LAX in a non-title match (smart move) to start out. Team 3D with the early advantage. Big DDT to D-Von by Homicide and clothesline to Bubba. Hernandez shows his agility by flying outside to hit D-Von. Homicide bonks Bubba with a pan several times but he doesn't go down. D-Von hits Hernandez with a crutch. They're fighting in the crowd with Team 3D in control. Bubba throws a chair to Homicide's head. They're back to the ring now with LAX gaining control. Trash can to the back of D-Von who replies with a powerslam for 2. Hernandez powers D-Von down for 2. D-Von with a wicked trash can lid shot to Hernandez's head. Superplex by Bubba onto Hernandez and a rana from Homicide onto Bubba for 2. WHAT'S UP!!!!!! Team 3D have a quick drink then grab the tables. Latino Nation come in to attack 3D, Johnny Rodz clears it out for a bit but gets clonked by Homicide. Bunch of black brothers come and get the Latino nation out of the ring. Doomsday Device gets 2. Border Toss blocked, 3D on Hernandez a Latino pulls the ref out. More gang war and Shelly comes in with a funky haircut. Frog Splash onto a table that barely broke gets LAX the win.

Borash interviews Rhino backstage. He says he's afraid.

Tag Team Bullrope match is now up. Gail and Petey gain control to start. We're now outside where Gail pushes Storm towards Petey in a chair who clotheslines him. Jackie lit up by chops from Gail but Jackie kicks her and gets out of the ropes too easily. Petey and Storm in the ring. CATFIGHT!!!!!! Gail is clubbing away at Jackie outside. Eye of the Storm gets Storm 2. Storm motions for a destroyer but Petey back body drops him. Petey now in control. Storm gets rope burn down south twice then gets DDTed to get Petey 2. Gail and Jackie back inside. Big collision from the ladies but Jackie gets up in time to low blow Petey to prevent the Destroyer which allows Storm to get the superkick for the win.

Interview with Big Poppa Pump. He rambles on and Cage comes in pleading Steiner to come to the ring with him tonight but to no avail. He grabs Latisha and runs off.

Chickenwing match next. Starr jumpstarts to get control but Senshi fights back. Nice corkscrew elbow from Senshi. Starr comes back and rakes his fingers on Senshi's back. Starr tries for the chickenwing a couple times but Senshi blocks. Pendulum elbow then Backlund comes out. Vicious clothesline from Senshi who goes to town. Calls for the chickenwing but Starr counters and Senshi counters with kicks. Senshi goes for the Warriors Way but Starr hits the ropes which takes Senshi outside and Starr suicide dives then throws him back in. Brainbuster reversed by Senshi who gets the chickenwing but Starr reverses it and breaks it. Starr now with the chickenwing on the mat but Senshi gets a foot on the rope. Senshi now applies the chickenwing on the mat and Starr taps. Senshi and Backlund were going to shake hands but Starr attacks Backlund from behind and gets him in the chickenwing.

Styles interviewed backstage. Says Rhino has a huge ego and is out of his element.

Christy is in the ring about to introduce her team but VKM come out. Kip runs down Christy again but she blows it off. Christy's team is The Heartbreakers. VKM have control. Kip is actually showing off some good wrestling moves for once. Christy distracts Kip which allows Romeo to get control for a bit. Christy tries to low blow Kip but it doesn't work because he wore a cup tonight. Hoyt comes out and carries Christy off. Romeo with a nearfall. Doubleteam from Heartbreakers but Kip moves out of the way. Hot tag to BG and this match is hopefully near its completion. BG hits his finisher on Romeo for the win.

Backstage with Latisha and Cage. He tries to talk to Abyuss who is sitting in a cage. Tries to smooth talk Abyss into helping him tonight. Abyss comes out of the cage and basically agrees to go out with him.

X-Division Title match up next. Sabin shoves Lynn and Lynn shoves back and sends him to the mat. Hard slap to Sabin's face followed by armdrags. Backbreaker gets Lynn 2. Sabin and Lynn both go into the guardrail. Slingshot elbow gets Sabin 2. Big tornado DDT from Lynn gets him the first fall. They go outside and Lynn clotheslines Sabin into the crowd then springboard corssbody blocks onto him. Sabin in control in the ring and gets a nearfall. Sunset flip from Lynn gets him 2. Sabin puts his feet on the ropes to get the 2nd fall. Lynn continues to move out of the way of Sabin and gets another nearfall. Sabin hits the Cradleshock but Lynn kicks out! Sabin tries for a Cradle Piledriver but Lynn reverses. Some dude comes out wearing a Sting Mask which allows Sabin to hit the Cradleshock again for the win. The man with the Sting mask is Daniels who gives Sabin the Angel's Wings then hits Lynn with the X-Title.

Backstage with Cornette. He says there's another innovation for Lockdown and Casey hopes it isn't anything with a pole.

Elevation X is up next. Rhino takes control to start out. Styles fights back and he goes up to the elevation X. Rhino is acting shaky as he gets up to Styles. They must have paid off a fan to act scared because they keep cutting to her. Rhino is how hanging on the edge. Rhino finally fighting back and Styles teases falling off. Styles doing the smart thing and hides inside the X. Rhino finally finds out where he is and throttles him but Styles rakes his eyes. exchange of punches and Styles takes control, tries for a Styles Clash but Rhino reverses it. Styles takes some powder out of his tights, gets it thrown back in face, gets Gored so he is hanging on the edge which allows Rhino to stomp on his fingers to make him drop. There was a near "Holy Crap!" moment but it was avoided when Styles was gored onto the X.

Interview with Angle. Says Steiner is gonna be the victim tonight. Angle and Steiner up next. Steiner takes control early on but gets headbutted while showboating. Belly to belly from Angle who then clotheslines Steiner to the outside. Angle misses a baseball slide but Steiner moves and clotheslines Angle on the outside then rams his head into the steps. Side suplex from Angle. Big uppercut then 3 German suplexes in a row. Angle slam reversed into a belly to belly for 2. Ankle lock but Steiner rolls out and gets 2. Angle rammed into the post shoulder first. Steiner Recliner broke by Angle who gets 2. Angle thrown to the outside and gets pummeled for a bit then comes back in. Version of Angle Slam followed by another Steiner Recliner but is reversed into another Angle slam and Ankle lock but Steiner gets to the ropes. Steiner tries for a top rope move but Angle coun ters to a sunset flip for the win. Crowd chants "that was cheap" and I agree.

Interview with Joe. Basically says he's gonna be the champ.

Last Rites match up next. Sting takes it right to Abyss to start. Tris for a Stinger Splash on the guardrail but Abyss moves and uses a chair on Sting. 2 Stinger Splashes and Abyss uses one of the fake candles to mae Sting bleed. Abyss calls for the casket, puts Sting in but he fights it off only to get a big boot for his trouble. Abyss stes a tombstone in a corner and Sting uses it against him by setting it by his head and smashing it with his bat. Abyss fights his way out of the casket now then chokeslams Sting on the top of the casket which breaks it. Abyss sets up 2 chairs, puts a tombstone in between them, goes up top for a suplex but Sting turns it around by hitting him with another set of fake candles. Abyss crashes through the tombstone which really earns the "Holy Crap!" moment of the night.

Funny backstage segment with Cage and Muta. Main event time. Another unique entrance from Joe that has to be seen. Joe starts out with kicks to the legs. Cage lit up by chops then a big knee drop gets 2. Cage in control outside. OUCH!!! Cage just took a big Judo throw on the outside. Cage is getting blasted in the crowd. Cage got a nice DDT on the apron to Joe. Backsplash misses and Cage gets 2. Cage showboats which allows Joe to attempt a Muscle Buster but it's reversed into a inverted DDT which gets Cage 2. Exchange of punches with Joe getting control. Big facewash gets Joe a nearfall. Big knee from the middle rope gets him another nearfall. Powerslam gets him another 2. Powerbomb gets Joe another nearfall. Joe now applies an STF but Cage gets to the ropes. Unprettier gets Cage 2. Joe just did his dive with Cage still on the apron. Cage tries to leave but 4 X-Division guys come out and get him back in the ring. Ref bump and Joe gets El Kabonged. Joe hits the Musclebuster but Cage kicks out. Cage tries for a top rope move but Joe catches him, put him in the Clutch but Cage uses the momentum and puts his feet on the ropes for the pin.

Tonight TNA Wrestling brings you its third annual Destination X pay per view event. I hope you like gimmick matches as usual, we’ve got a lot of them.

Wade: Hello, and welcome to the same PPV as last month with the only change being the name. I can tell you without excitement that there is really no match I'm looking forward too. There are way too many gimmick matches and the majority of the storylines suck. The silver lining, if you want to see it, is that in the mind of Vince Russo the word "sucks" means "success".

Casey: You know, I'm glad that they added this match and made it a stipulation match at that. I mean this show is really lacking for gimmicks and stipulations. Anyway, Senshi won't be winning by kicking Starr in the head but he will be winning.

Art: Senshi jobbing to Austin Starr?? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA~!!!!~!!~~! Well, ANYTHING is possible but I believe Senshi will end up twisting Starr's arm off and proceed to beat him over the head several times with it.

Euan: Winner: Senshi by kicking Starr in the head then applying Chickenwing

Scott: Winner: Austin Starr

Wade: Senshi has gone from being an awesome X-Division Champion to a pathetic comedy angle with Austin Starr. This has become even more complicated with Bob Backlund doing his crazy backstage and ringside stunts. He will make his pescence felt tonight.
Winner: Senshi by kicking Starr in the face (you can sue but you won't get much, lol)

Double Bullrope Match: Petey Williams and Gail Kim Vs. Jackie Moore and James Storm

Casey: Oh good, this match is happening again. Well my undeniable love for Gail Kim not withstanding, I'm not falling for this again. Storm and Moore will win and Chris Harris will attack them after the match or Harris will cost them the bout. I'm guessing the former.
Winners: Jackie Moore and James Storm

Art: Jackie and Storm will beat the shit out of those two.

Euan: Kinky~! How long before the double pole match? Mmmmmmmmmmmm...that's enough of thinking like Vince Russo.

Wade: I still don't get why Petey Williams is involved. Vince must get Petey and Chris Harris mixed up a lot and nobody has told him yet because it's too funny. Hopefully Harris makes an appearence before the match is over so this thing makes sense.

Marcus: Winners: Jackie and James- Rematch them in a cage.

TNA X-division title match (2/3 falls) Jerry Lynn Vs. Chris Sabin

Casey: Originally, I had no idea this was 2 out of 3 falls. I could watch these men wrestle forever and I think that maybe I have been. Anyway, this is the time to have Lynn overcome the youngster in a match that favors the youngster and win the X-division title. It is just like the Randy Couture story without all of the attention, fame, and money earned.
Winner: Jerry Lynn

Art: Since I've done this preview the match suddenly became a 2-out-of-3 falls match which is not a bad thing as these two can go and will put on one of the best matches of the night that only the X-Division can offer. I'm still going with Lynn getting the title, Sabin's been busting his balls for some time
now and Lynn's all fired up ready to show Sabin why he's the better of the two.
Winner: Jerry Lynn

Euan: This could be the sleeper match of the evening. Due to my TNA boycott during the Russo Regime i have not watched Impact but i know for a fact that these two could put on one hell of a match if given time. But since this is TNA, the match will go 5 minutes and there will be 6 million run ins.

Wade: This storyline actually makes sense in a way. You have the classic "Old School vs. New school" angle with 2 very good wrestlers. I would like to see Lynn with the title again but I doubt that'll happen.

TNA Tag Team Championship: (Ghetto Brawl) Team 3D Vs. The Latin American Xchange

Casey: Ironically, the build for Team 3D is when will they capture the NWA tag team titles? They'd better hurry before TNA loses the rights to those belts. I originally thought LAX would win this match and lose the belts in the cage at Lockdown but now I've got a feeling that 3D is going to win. Of course, I thought they'd win last month and that didn't go so well for me.
Winners: Team 3D

Art: I'm picking 3D to win the tag titles as LAX has prevailed in most of their matches against 3D... yeah goofy logic right there.

Euan: Yawn! Is it so hard to book a different tag team title match not containing the same two teams each month...oh yeah, it's TN FUCKING A!

Wade: Team 3D is finally getting another title shot. I don't envy either team here since the NWA Tag Team titles will have to be given back. I'm sure the numbers will be too much for Team 3D again.

Last Rights Match: Sting Vs. Abyss

Casey: Sting always wins these matches with Abyss. Sting says that this will cause Abyss to see the light or turn face for those of you not hip to the new lingo. It has to end this way.

Art: Sting's been the asshole in this eternal fued, I’m going with Abyss getting revenge for Stinger being a douche and raising Steve Borden up towards the heavens.
Winner: Abyss

Euan: This match will only end when someone is risen to the heavens. Only Vince Russo could book such a ridiculous match as this. Of course, it could have been a lot worse...it could have involved lubing up a pole. I don't know how that would've worked but it's TNA, they would've found a way.

Scott: Winner: Abyss

Wade: Worst gimmick ever. I like Sting, but he has been given some weird, wild stuff with Abyss. They could've done so much better, but as long as Russo is around that word has lost meaning.

Elevation X: AJ Styles Vs. Rhino

Casey: I don't get it. Why have a match that you know won't be good? Why handicap one of your best fliers in a match like this? I fear for the lives of both men but more for the man who is going to lose. I hope AJ Styles is ok. I am picking Rhino not just because the bump is made for AJ but because AJ has out smarted him at every turn, but I don’t think this will be pretty.
Winner: Rhino

Art: AJ takes the plunge off the X-scaffold and hopefully doesn't die, I'm picking Rhino to win this one.

Euan: AJ Styles is a dead man...that is all.

Wade: This will probably earn the "Holy Crap!" spot of the night since I'm sure somebody is going to take a sick bump. There is no title or anything important on the line, just pride and Rhino actually being able to get a decent win over Styles.

Marcus: Winner: Rhino although it wouldn't surprise me to see AJ win just because nobody would expect Rhino to take that fall.

Scott Steiner Vs. Kurt Angle

Casey: While I don't think this match will be that bad and while I don't really think a job to Steiner is the worst thing you could see, I don't think it is the right move.
Winner: Kurt Angle

Art: The Battle of the Suplexes~! If Kurt doesn't win this one it further displays TNA's stupidity... and this continues some type of fued.
Winner: Kurt Angle

Euan: BATTLE OF A 1000 SUPLEXES~! Finally the king of the suplex will be decided but i wonder if the Iron Sheik will do a run in and hit both men with his clubs then suplex them, put them in a double camel clutch, break their backs and then fuck their ass...no.

Wade: The battle of the steroid freaks! This won't be as awesome as the Battle of the Billionaires but what is? There's going to be a lot of suplexes and I too hope Iron Sheik does a run in. It can't be worse than Big Fat Oily Guy, can it?

Marcus: Winner: Scott Steiner. He just came in and needs a push (no matter how much we hate it) and again they'll rematch them in a cage.

TNA Heavyweight Championship: Christian Cage Vs. Samoa Joe

Casey: Samoa Joe is getting the title sooner or later. The only question is does he get it sooner, or later? If I'm a betting man, I bet he gets it sooner. If you are a betting man, you should bet the opposite of me if you want to win.
Winner: Samoa Joe

Art: I don't think Joe should get the title just yet but I have a feeling the patented TNA HotShottingЁ will be in effect thus Joe winning the NWA/TNA World title.
Winner: Samoa Joe

Euan: Joe forced to quit ROH = Title win.

Wade: The time has come for Samoa Joe to become TNA World Champion!

Marcus: Winner- Christian Cage- There's more money to be made in a rematch and I doubt they'll throw Joe in a cage for his first title defense should he win.

iMPACT Analysis: TNA Wrestling's 'Destination X' 2006

Now with Destination X 2007 just one day away, I give to you the iMPACT Analysis for last year’s version. The question is whether 2006 can live up to the laufty standards of suck that 2005’s version set.


What is the iMPACT Analysis? I take a look back at the given event and I try to provide context for each match. Looking at what each participant had been doing prior to their match with their given opponent and I also look at how the result of the match iMPACTed the future direction of the wrestlers, the titles and the promotion as a whole. Then at the end I rate the show on a number of criteria.

All of these are rated on a scale from 0-10.

Wrestling Quality: How was the in-ring action on the show?
Backstage Quality: How were the promos, backstage skits and other angles?
Crowd Heat: Was the crowd in to the show?
Announcing: Were they on point, humorous, say something completely stupid?
Booking: Did the storyline direction make sense? Did the right man or team go over in the end?
iMPACT Analysis: How did this show iMPACT the company? Was it memorable, a complete throw-away, somewhere in the middle?
Replay Factor: How much of this would you ever want to view a second time?
Average: Taking the score in each of the above categories and dividing it by the number of categories and that determines the show score.
Is it worth buying the DVD? Asks if this DVD is worth the purchase or not.

Shannon Moore pinned Cassidy Riley (3:21).

Elix Skipper & David Young beat Shark Boy & Norman Smiley (3:17) when Young pinned Smiley.

After looking at those, I have to wonder why you people always ask me why I bother ordering these shows.

This is TNA, the new face of old faces.

The video that opens the show is Eric Young searching for Sting. This was shot not too long after Eric Young nearly died while having throat surgery.

Tonight, Steve Bordon promises retribution against Jeff Jarrett for sending Alex Shelley to film his home life. You know it is serious because it is Steve Bordon, not Sting that’s doing the promising.

We don’t waste much time heading to the ring for the first match.

Match 1: Jay Lethal Vs. Alex Shelley

At Against All Odds these 2 competed in a 4-way x-division match along with Petey Williams and Matt Bentley in which Lethal was victorious.

Alex Shelley is well in to his Paparazzi gimmick at this point, this is otherwise known as the brief time he rubbed elbows with the main eventers. Jay Lethal is popular with the crowd, and I don’t think they’ve heard his Randy Savage impression yet. Dueling chants breakout but the Lethal fans outrank the Shelley supporters.

Don West notes that these are the 2 youngest competitors in TNA, Shelley is 22 and Lethal is 20. Don West busting out the facts.

As if wrestling isn’t enough, Jeff Jarrett has sent Alex Shelley and Eric Young on a mission. I’ll bet it involves Steve Bordon, Sting or both. The crowd chants “Lethal Weapon, “Lets Go Lethal”, and the ever popular “Shelly sucks”. Shelley has been in control for most of the match and has been keeping this one on the ground.

One match in and the crowd is probably going to get a better grade than they did for 2005’s version of this show.

Tenay mentions the world X-cup and how Jay Lethal is a member of Team USA. Alex Shelley would also qualify for that team.

Now the dueling chants for Lethal and Shelley are a little more even. Lethal is in control now and teases going up top. Shelley cuts him off and hits him with a devastating…slap!
Diving headbutt gets a 2 count for Lethal. After a sequence which ends with a boot to Lethal’s midsection, Shelley hits the sliced bread #2 for the pin.

Winner: Alex Shelley – 10:08
The crowd was in to it, and the X-division hadn’t yet been completely tanked so this was fun.

Thumb Position: Up, it was an enjoyable match.

Impact: None, it was a match that was just there, the win did nothing for Shelley and the loss did nothing to hurt Lethal.

Mike Tenay and Don West talk about Steve Bordon and his quest for vengeance against Jeff Jarrett.

Borash is backstage with Team Canada. Roode talks about his match with The Naturals. D’Amoore asks if the Naturals have to explain getting screwed to 5 Canadians that have to go up against 300 million ignorant Americans. I was unaware that the population of Canada was all of 5.
Apparently, Canada has some superior stuff to the United States. Shelley comes in and grabs Eric Young as they are off on a mission.

Match 2: Lance Hoyt Vs. Maverick Matt

This match was set up by an angle from Xplosion where they were tag partners but Maverick Matt turned on him.

Tenay says nobody saw the Bentley turn coming, and I agree but only because nobody cared.

If you ask me, the fact Abyss was able to get a decent match out of Lance Hoyt should prove that Abyss is not just about the thumbtacks and hardcore matches.

Maverick Matt is a really stupid name. Martyr is a step up. Apparently, the iMPACT Zone has a VIP row because members of the St. Louis Cardinals are sitting in it.

After pondering this for a bit, I think that this feud really got started when Matt Bentley went up to Hoyt backstage and said: “You think you’ve got it bad, your name isn’t nearly as terrible as Maverick Matt”. Lance Hoyt did not approve of this thinking his name was the lamest in the company and it was on.

Tenay reminds us that Bentley is a former X-division champion which makes me wonder who isn’t a former X-division champion? I think I might’ve even one it for a few days back in 2003.

Hoyt uses his power to throw Bentley around, then goes for a moonsault and hits nothing but mat.

We cut to Jeremey Borash up in the rafters and he is with Alex Shelley and Eric Young. Young calls this his best plan ever as he unloads a box and it starts to rain flyers down on the arena.

Don West asks So-Cal Val to get him one of those flyers. If I were to ask So-Cal Val something it would not be that. Matt Bentley looks at one of the Flyers and gets a big boot for his trouble and that gets the pin.

Winner: Lance Hoyt – 7:59
Match was nothing and a back drop for the Angle.

The Flyer was a picture of Steve Bordon that said if you see this man contact Jeff Jarrett immediately. Ok, I’ll get right on that one.

Thumb Position: in the middle, it was whatever.

Impact: None, it led to nothing.

Jeremy Borash, the quickest man on earth is now back with Rhino, Ron Killings and Team 3D. Brother Ray suggests that we forget about Destination X. Oh, if only it were that easy. Ron Killings sings his theme song, and Brother Ray asks he and D-von to teach him ebonics.

Match 3: Team Canada (Bobby Roode and Eric Young) Vs. The Naturals

At Against All Odds Team Canada were buried…I mean defeated by Team 3D while the Naturals were victorious over Austin Aries and Roderick Strong.
Apparently, the Naturals wanted this match because Team Canada cost them the world tag team titles on the episode of iMPACT that aired the night before this PPV.

Mike Tenay tries to get D’Amoore to leave ringside by telling him there is an all you can eat buffet in the back. D’Amoore was like I tried to go there but Travis Lutter was first in line so I didn’t get any food.

Bobby Roode tells the crowd he is going to break Chase Stevens’ neck. Next month at lockdown Stevens would prove he didn’t need Roode’s help.

The Naturals have been in control to a resounding chorus of apathy from the crowd. The most popular wrestler in this match is a man who wrestles under the name of USA.

Hey, I’m surprised nobody is doing that now, it is easy heat in the U.S. and on foreign soil. I should be a booker or something.

I’d say that Chase Stevens is playing Ricky Morton but I don’t think Stevens is behind on child support payments. Besides, Bobby Roode is most definitely not playing Bobby Eaton. The point of this is that Team Canada is cutting off Stevens from tagging in his partner. I’ve never seen that strategy in a tag match before, to think it took someone until 2006 to figure that one out.

USA is getting chants again, he’s over. Mike Tenay apparently has had 2 redbulls before this show. I don’t care to go back and find out why he mentioned this.

A fun fact about Andy Douglas is that once I got a message from him on MySpace telling me he was a Raiders fan, this was after I added him as a friend. Oh, sometimes I miss my Myspace account.

Roode is nearly pinned by a tornado DDT and Don West insists it should’ve been a 3 count. We’ve got all 4 men battling it out in the ring right now. The Naturals breakout a double superplex and that draws a chant of TNA. Mike Tenay is clearly chanting for the Naturals at this point as the move only draws a 2 count and he says: “Damn, just a 2 count.”

The finish comes, and you’ll never believe this, when Team Canada breaks the hockey stick over Andy Douglas’ head. What a unique and creative finish that was, didn’t see that one coming at all.

Winners: Team Canada – 12:24

Thumb Position: In the middle, it wasn’t a bad match at all but I’m not in to either team.

Impact: None, this also led to nothing and this feud lasted for all of 2 nights.

Borash is with Monty Brown. He calls this the biggest match of his and Christian’s career. He calls Christian the flavor of the minute. As he says that Christian will feel the pooounce, he gets cut off before Pooounce by Larry Zbyszko who tells him the playing field will be level tonight. Monty says he doesn’t care about the referee, he doesn’t care about TNA management or Larry and that he will level the playing field with the Pooooounce…Period!

We get a video package for my favorite feud of no-time none of my life. I am of course speaking of The James Gang Vs. LAX.

Match 4: The James Gang and Bullet Bob Vs. the Latin American Xchange

The James Gang were victorious over LAX at Against All Odds, attacked after the match and Bullet Bob made the save. That’s as close to a set-up angle as you’re going to get I’d say.

Konnan grabs the mic and says some stuff in Spanish and calls Bullet Bob “Dinosaur Bones”, Konnan hates a lot of things apparently. Well, since he didn’t ask for his dogs I am assuming that he found them between Destination X 2005 and 2006. I’ll keep you updated on this developing story.

West hopes to look half as good as the Bullet when he is 66. Mike Tenay doesn’t think he’ll ake it to 66. That was, uh, kinda gay.

B.G. has the mic. He says that tonight is not a night for catchphrases. I’m happy to hear this, but I am not happy to hear him continue to talk. He calls LAX “punk bitches” and apparently, Blood is thicker than mud.

Mike Tenay says that Armstrong’s boots are older than half of the TNA wrestlers. They sure are making a big deal out of him being 66 years old.

I’ll say this yet again this month. The fact LAX was able to get over at all after this desasterous feud is a credit to their greatness. They got over on their own not because of anything TNA did to help them as this feud was a waste of that group.

Bullet Bob and Konnan are brawling outside the ring, as West and Tenay take turns falling over each other to praise this assault. Meanwhile, there is other stuff happening in the ring. A chair gets involved but it backfires on LAX. Homicide and Konnan are taken out of the picture and Machete eats the pin.

Winners: The James Gang and Bullet Bob - 6:38
At least this was short.

Thumb Position: down, the fact it was short doesn’t stop me from hating it.

Impact: This feud would never end or so it would seem. This was just a chapter, no iMPACT.

Borash is backstage with Young and Shelley and they are whispering. Eric Young enters the men’s room and tells Sting he’s got the whole place surrounded. The toilet flushes and AJ Styles comes out of the stall. Young asks AJ if Sting was in the stall with him. Styles wonders what Young and Shelley are doing in the men’s room…together.

Match 5: Chris Sabin Vs. Petey Williams Vs. Sonjay Dutt Vs. Puma

Puma is returning to TNA after a long absence, Petey Williams was in a 4-way X-division match at Against All Odds which was won by Jay Lethal, and Chris Sabin and Sonjay Dutt were defeated by America’s Most Wanted for the NWA world tag team titles on the same show. I hate it when long-standing teams are forced to fight.

The idea is that this is a World X-cup preview. Sabin represents the USA, Williams represents Canada, Puma represents Japan and Sonjay Dutt represents India. However, when it came time for the world X-cup Sonjay Dutt would represent the United States as well, so something happened between this match and the start of the tournament that caused India to disown him.

This is a preview of the world X-cup which turned in to a big headache for TNA. I’ll explain that in a future iMPACT Analysis column. Puma represents Japan in this match, but was on Team Mexico during the world X-cup. He was also apparently kicked out of his country just like Sonjay Dutt.

Tenay says TNA has no limits in terms of bringing in top international stars for the world x-cup. Unfortunately, time would prove otherwise as Mexico wasn’t exactly a star studded lineup.

Puma and Sonjay Dutt have a brief exchange, until Petey Williams blind tags himself in to the ring.

I’ll say this much, at least TNA didn’t have Elix Skipper representing the tribal nations of Africa or something.

It doesn’t take too much time before all 4 men are in the ring. Tenay talks about Sonjay Dutt saving himself, and I pray he’s not talking about for marriage. A-1 is walking around ringside, I’m surprised TNA could afford to release someone who made such a valuable contribution.

Amazingly, the all 4 men in the ring bit doesn’t last long before it is back to normal with Puma and Petey in the ring and Sonjay Dutt and Chris Sabin waiting for the tag. Sonjay blind tags himself back in and scores a nearfall on Puma.

Sabin in now and he hits the hesitation dropkick on Sonjay Dutt for a 2-count. It is like when the Megapowers exploded at WrestleMania V only without all of that pesky heat or money drawn.

Mike Tenay starts to talk about the original Tiger Mask and he does so with the same amount of affection Vince Russo talks about polls. Petey does the “Oh Canada” spot and the crowd decides to sing along. Tenay talks about how Williams and Sabin trained together and how they know each other so well. He is officially in wrestling professor mode.

We’re back to all 4 men in the ring, Sonjay teases a big dive but is cut off and the crowd is not happy about it. Sabin wipes out Petey with a suicide dive, Puma goes to join the fun but is prevented from doing so by Sonjay Dutt who takes out Puma then hits a moonsault to the floor taking out all 3 men. Attempt at a cradle shock is cut off. Sabin nails a kick to the face as it has broken down and the fans declare it to be awesome.

The moves are coming fast and furious from all directions. Williams hooks Puma in a submission but Sonjay breaks it up before Puma can tap. Petey goes for the Destroyer but Sonjay counters it. Sabin breaks up the pin attempt on Petey and he and Sonjay exchange chops. Puma breaks up that pin attempt and not it is time for he and Puma to go at it. Puma gets a nearfall but Sonjay breaks it up.

A Canadian destroyer is hit by Petey on Sonjay but Puma prevents it from going anywhere. Sabin hits Puma with the cradle shock and that’s all she wrote.

Winner: Chris Sabin – 14:57
A fun spotfest that we haven’t seen in TNA for a long while and in this case that’s a shame.

Thumb Position: Up, it was a quite fun match when all was said and done.

Impact: None, this really didn’t lead anywhere either it was just a showcase of spots.

Borash is backstage with Jarrett’s team. Mitchell cuts the best promo of the 2 and AMW remains quiet. This is for the best.

Now we get a video package for the 8-man tag match which is a happy coincidence as that match is next. They play the ending from the Abyss-Rhino match at Against All Odds including where Tenay shreaks like a little girl.

Match 6: Rhino, Ron Killings and Team 3D Vs. Jeff Jarrett, Abyss, and America’s Most Wanted

Jeff Jarrett had lost his world title to Christian at Against All Odds. Team 3D defeated Team Canada at that same show while Rhino defeated Abyss in a falls count anywhere match. America’s Most Wanted defended the tag team titles against Chris Sabin and Sonjay Dutt and it was successful, while Ron Killings wrestled and defeated A-1 on the preshow. One of these things is not like the others but I’m not sure which it is, can I get a little help? Of course, Killings did come out and save 3D from an AMW/Team Canada beatdown on that February PPV.

We start out with all 8 men brawling in the ring. History suggests that the in the ring part won’t last long. In fact it lasts about 15 seconds before pairs break off to the floor for some weapons related fun. Abyss and Rhino have paired off, Killings and Jarrett paired off, and 3D and AMW pair off as well.

Don West does his best Frank Baron impression is Rhino connects with a steel chair.
Tenay makes a big deal out of the fact we actually got a tag. The fight is actually moving back towards the ring, and the crowd is loving it. Yes, the fight has completely made it back to the ring and it breaks down in to a real live tag match.

Some people don’t like wild weapons filled brawls in wrestling. My opininion is if you are going to do it, then do it. I don’t like it when you’ve got a match like this that starts out with weapons and crowd brawling and then breaks down in to an orderly tag match. At least if you go from organized match to weapons brawl it is easy to believe that a referee could lose control. It is a lot harder to think a ref can restore order when you start out wild. I guess I’m saying I wish this match had been booked differently.

Abyss and Rhino are now in the ring with the crowd firmly behind Rhino. This is when things turn bad for the face team in this bout.

AMW are now involved, and the fans seem to be indicating that they are fans of Brokeback Mountain as they work over Rhino. I guess you could say Rhino is playing Ricky Morton but I don’t know if he’s missed any child support payments either. After from some heel tag team work, Rhino finally makes the tag to Ron Killings who promptly asks what’s up?

The battle has broken down again as Mitchell passes Jarrett the guitar. Unfortunately, Rhino gores the guitar out of Jarrett’s hand but then eats Abyss’ black hole slam. It has broken down once again but they’re at least staying at the ring this time.

If the 8 men involved isn’t enough Jackie Gayda and Gail Kim have a catfight on the floor. Tenay shouting “Go Wide, Go Wide, Go Wide” makes me think of particular moments from our Destination X preview podcast. A 3D on Abyss takes him out but it leads to nothing. D-von takes the Death Sentence from AMW but Killings prevents a pinfall from taking place. Harris brings in handcuffs but somehow he ends up handcuffed to the ropes and not Killings.

A pinfall is broken up by Jarrett when he pulls the referee out of the ring. I’m not really a fan of that spot.

Jarrett hits the stroke on Ron Killings and he gets the 3 count.

Winners: Jarrett, Abyss and AMW 20:10
The psychology of this one with it starting out chaotic and then turning in to a tag match was kind of weird. I think the Jarrett-AMW Vs. Rhino-Team 3D match from Genesis 2005 was better.

Thumb Position: In the middle, again I wasn’t a fan of the way this was laid out but the crowd was in to it so I can’t say it was a waste.

Impact: Minimal, this feud would basically continue for awhile longer.

Jarrett calls out Sting and Steve Bordon and calls him a quitter. The crowd is calling for someone named Boring as Jarrett starts the 10 count. Jarrett counts to 10 and no Bordon or Sting. He stops after nine and cuts another promo before hitting 10. The crowd is not exactly going wild as Jarrett celebrates winning the war.

A video package for Ultimate X now airs. I love how the key question of this match was whether Samoa Joe was too fat to climb the cables.

Borash interviews Samoa Joe. Borash compares Joe’s winning streak to Goldberg. Joe says for him it is never about “Who’s Next”, but about “Who’s left”? Joe also said that he hasn’t slept since TNA took his belt and put it on that god forsaken contraption.

Match 7: Ultimate X – TNA X-division Title: Samoa Joe Vs. Christopher Daniels Vs. AJ Styles

This is an Against All Odds rematch which was won by Samoa Joe and that was a rematch of TNA’s Unbreakable Pay Per View from 09/11/2005 where AJ Styles was victorious.

Early in the match both AJ and Daniels make attempts to get the belt, but obviously nothing comes of it or else the match would be over. Joe’s first attempt is fine but he does fall to the mat.

After a couple of minutes of more action, the crowd chants “This is awesome”, and I am not necessarily in agreement. Joe goes to do bad things to Christopher Daniels involving a chair but AJ cuts him off.

Joe tries to set AJ up for the muscle buster on the chair but Daniels makes the save. Daniels gets some palm thrusts for his trouble.

AJ and Daniels hit a double team muscle buster on Joe. This match is foreshadowing the regular team that AJ and Daniels would become for awhile. AJ hits the Pele and Don West goes wild. AJ gets close to taking down the belt but Joe hits him with a chair knocking him down. Daniels uses the chair to his advantage kicking it in to Samoa Joe’s face. Daniels manages to grab the title and get the win. West immediately explains that Joe still has never been pinned or submitted one-on-one and is thus still undefeated. For the love of all that is holy and pure.

After the match, AJ Styles shakes hands with Daniels while Joe is very unhappy on the outside.

Winner: Christopher Daniels – 13:26
I believe this was supposed to go longer but that Joe had an eye injury and lost some vision so some spots had to be scrapped.

Thumb Position: up, but it is not a resounding thumbs up or anything.

Impact: Minimal, as Joe would regain the title a month later and this was not necessarily the end of the feud. Although, this would lead to Styles and Daniels teaming up.

Christian is with Borash. Christian declares that he got his ass kicked 3-times on his way to the arena. Well, it is a good thing that the NWA champion can get his ass kicked so easily. Christian also tells Borash that he is taking fashion tips from Ryan Seacrest. Christian says Monty’s record in NWA title matches will be the same as his record in Super Bowls. Christian is not a good babyface promo.

A highlight package airs starting off with Jarrett promising Monty the next shot after he beat Christian. Unfortunately for Jarrett it was a promise he couldn’t keep. Unfortunately for Christian it was a promise he had to keep. They show a clip of Christian asking Monty for the capital of Tyland and then informing him it was bangcock before hitting him low. They show Monty pooouncing Christian into the guardrail hurting Christian’s ribs.

Match 8: NWA World Heavyweight Title: Christian Cage Vs. Monty Brown

Christian had won the title from Jeff Jarrett at Against All Odds. Jarrett had promised Monty the first shot if he was successful in his defense against Christian and Cage kept the promise for him.

The match has taken the form of Monty working over Christian’s ribs, Christian gets a few hope spots but Monty remained in control. An example is Christian getting Monty down and going for the frog splash. Unfortunately, Christian missed the move and Monty was back on the attack.

Monty goes for the pounce but Christian hits him with a boot and gets the Unprettier and that gets him the pin.

Winner: Christian Cage – 17:11
This match suffered from the fact that it went longer than planned due to the prior match going short and due to the fact Monty Brown had a knee injury and would have surgery shortly after this show was over.

Christian gets a post-match celebration but it is cut off by Jeff Jarrett who makes his way out to the ring with a mic. Jarrett says he came to do 3 things, win the war, prove Sting’s a quitter and reclaim his title. He’s done the first 2 and wants to make Christian a transitional champion just like his brother was up north. Christian asks Jarrett if he will retire if he loses. Christian trips over the phrase Monty Brown’s ass, calling him Monty Ass. Jarrett hits the ring and he and Monty attack. Abyss also comes to the ring and he attacks as well. Rhino comes out to even up the odds again but the Canadians and Alex Shelley hit the ring to uneven the evened odds.

The crowd wants Sting, but they don’t seem to be interested in Steve Bordon. Chris Harris handcuffs Schristian to the ropes and Jarrett and the rest take turns whipping Christian with a belt.

All of a sudden, Steve Bordon hits the ring to clean house. He takes on the whole mob and he is cleaning house. Eric Young is just scared out of the ring by Steve Bordon. Sting is way easier to type than Steve Bordon. Sting has the belt and is taking some lashes out of Jeff Jarrett. Sting hooks the Scorpion on Jarrett who taps.
Scott Steiner hits the ring next and he attacks Steve Bordon. A belly-to-belly suplex puts Sting down and the rest of the group come in for a beatdown. I love me a good old-fashion heel beatdown.

The crowd chants for Goldberg to come and save the day. It is probably because of the teasing TNA did for Goldberg earlier. Steiner hooks the Steiner Recliner on Sting as the Jarrett World Order celebrates the beatdown. Jarrett brings in the guitar and cracks it over the head. Scott Steiner’s surprise appearance wasn’t a surprise to everyone as someone had theme music all ready to go for him.

Thumb Position: Down, The match was too long and the cracks in Christian’s title reign were beginning to show.

Impact: The match had no iMPACT at all really, the post match Angle though makes the iMPACT major as Scott Steiner’s introduction would set the stage for a few months worth of matches.

Overall Show Thoughts:
I liked this show a lot better than the 2005 version, but that doesn’t say a whole lot. This was one of those shows that I enjoyed enough but the score won’t be that great because outside of a couple of things it really didn’t have that big of an impact on the direction of TNA.

The Scoring:

Wrestling Quality: 5, there was some ok stuff here, only 2 matches were a thumbs down, but there was nothing blow-away either.

Backstage Quality: 4, Eric Young was entertaining and earns all 4 points on his own.

Crowd Heat: 7, they were active all night and not in the annoying way they usually are.

Announcing: 5, they had their wacky moments, and their moments of insight but they also had some creepy moments as well.

Booking: 4, the booking was ok no weird finishes, and this is the first TNA PPV I can remember in quite some time where I didn’t have to type the phrase ref bump.

IMPACT Analysis: 1.5, this point goes for the debut of Scott Steiner. No major feuds were ended and even though there was a title change it was undone shortly thereafter.

Replay Factor: 3, if you wanted to watch this show multiple times it wouldn’t be a big deal. It isn’t the first show I’d pick but it wouldn’t be the last either.

Average: 4.2

Is it worth Buying the DVD?: I can’t say yes. I would recommend the 4-way x-division bout but I believe that is on best of the X-division volume 2 as well so you’d probably be better off with that DVD. I can’t give this a strong recommendation, but I also can’t say stay away from it as though it were the plague.

iMPACT Analysis: TNA Destination X 2005

Welcome to the iMPACT Analysis for Destination X. The 2007 version of this event is this Sunday, so it is time to take a look at the prior 2 events in the series. We start out with Destination X 2005, AKA come on is Vince Russo really so bad?



What is the iMPACT Analysis? I take a look back at the given event and I try to provide context for each match. Looking at what each participant had been doing prior to their match with their given opponent and I also look at how the result of the match iMPACTed the future direction of the wrestlers, the titles and the promotion as a whole. Then at the end I rate the show on a number of criteria.

All of these are rated on a scale from 0-10.

Wrestling Quality: How was the in-ring action on the show?
Backstage Quality: How were the promos, backstage skits and other angles?
Crowd Heat: Was the crowd in to the show?
Announcing: Were they on point, humorous, say something completely stupid?
Booking: Did the storyline direction make sense? Did the right man or team go over in the end?
iMPACT Analysis: How did this show iMPACT the company? Was it memorable, a complete throw-away, somewhere in the middle?
Replay Factor: How much of this would you ever want to view a second time?
Average: Taking the score in each of the above categories and dividing it by the number of categories and that determines the show score.
Is it worth buying the DVD? Asks if this DVD is worth the purchase or not.

Welcome to the long hyped up review of TNA’s Destination X 2005. I’ve been plugging this one for months so lets see if I can live up to my own hype?

Chris Candido & Andy Douglas beat Lex Lovett & Buck Quartermain (7:58) when Candido pinned Quartermain.

The opening video has no voice over it is scrawling text on the screen, so perhaps Darth Vader lost his voice. If you think I’m transcribing this, you haven’t been reading my work long enough. Actually, Vader’s voice does return briefly to tell us that TNA Wrestling Presents Destination X.

This is TNA…The new, Uh, Line?

Mike Tenay calls this TNA’s version of March Madness. Only difference, March Madness is usually good and more people care. But other than those minor differences they’re exactly the same.

This crowd doesn’t seem to be as lively as they have been during prior show openings.

Tenay and West run down the card for the show people already paid to see, you know just in case someone bought it without knowing the card.

Apparently, Abyss was arrested during the pregame show for something that involved Jeff Hardy. If Nick Diaz was also there I think I might know what Abyss was arrested for.

Match 1: Team Canada Vs. America’s Most Wanted, Konnan and B.G. James

At Against All Odds, Bobby Roode and Eric Young wrestled DDP and Monty Brown and were defeated. Petey Williams was defeated by Elix Skipper at the same show, and this is the debut of A-1 who is taking the place of the injured Johnny Devine. AMW defeated Kid Kash and Lance Hoyt to retain the tag team titles, B.G. James and Jeff Hammond defeated Michael Shane and Kazarian and Konnan stood around.

Konnan takes the mic and is having some trouble finding his dogs. I hope he can find them soon.

Funny bit here as B.G. is going through his usual spiel and when he says: “Soon to be, NWA Tag team champions of the world”, he gets a stare from AMW. They cut him off in the middle of “world”.

Team Canada’s music plays and they are led to the ring by the Coach.

Tenay and West talk about Johnny Devine’s knee injury. Devine would be out of TNA for well over a year. Alastair Ralphs as they call him had actually wrestled on one of the weekly TNA PPV’s from the era that was so successful for the company, the United States had to add another star to the flag to accomidate the new state that was needed to house the safe that keeps all of the money TNA made off of those shows.

Apparently, the new member of Team Canada replaces Bobby Roode as the power of the team. A-1 is no Canadian Strong Man, Dino Bravo and by that I mean he hasn’t been shot 44 times for a drug deal gone bad. Of course, there is still time.

Tenay claims that the Impact Zone has been rocking from the opening bell. Sounds like an issue with the Foundation, perhaps they should bring in the building inspectors? Knowing how bad this show is from the prior times I’ve seen it, I wish they had.

James Storm is fighting Eric Young who he was ironically teaming with on the episode of Impact I had just recapped.

Alistair Ralphs is like the least scary name in the history of a lot.

Fans at ringside chant TNA for a big spot, I wonder what TNA stands for? No, actually I don’t, it stands for illogical booking. You might be thinking that the letters don’t match up but that’s part of the grand illogical plan.

We are told that the Abyss Vs. Jeff Hardy match is still on as scheduled even though Abyss was arrested. I’d say I’m disappointed but if that match had not taken place, they would’ve replaced it with something vorse than Hulk Hogan~!

The finish comes when Scott D’Amoore interferes and sacrifices himself for the good of the cause. In other words, it is every Team Canada finish you’ve ever seen.

Winners: Team Canada – 8:53
It was ok and fit the Team Canada formula which was not nearly as tired as it would become in the next year and a half give or take an agonizing month or so.

Thumb Position: In the Middle, I’m being generous for later.

Impact: Mild, just the start of a feud that would never end, it would go on and on my friends. Some people started booking it not knowing what it was, and then it went forever just because, it was the feud that never ends!

Dusty Rhodes is backstage with Traci and Trinity who are arguing about their match later. Johnny Fairplay comes in and begs Dusty for another chance. He tells him to find 2 guys not under contract before the end of the show. If this sounds like an interesting development, I’ve failed.

Match 2: Chris Sabin Vs. Chase Stevens

Neither of these men wrestled at Against All Odds, and this was a match added at the last second to this show. I believe it was unadvertised.

Announcers talk about Chris Sabin’s success in Ultimate X matches. They say Sabin is upset he wasn’t put in the upcoming Ultimate X match. Sabin commences with the flying and the diving and the landing.

Sabin hits a spin kick in this glorified squash. Chris Sabin has a family member or 3 in the crowd as they chant “Lets Go Sabin” at him.

Chris Candido tries to get Stevens back in the match by slapping the ring apron. I don’t know how Sabin can withstand that awesome motivation from Candido.

Sabin gets a nearfall off of a tornado DDT, so I guess Sabin was brave enough to overcome Candido’s apron slapping.

Sabin gets the win off of a roll-up as he defies the 3-on-1 odds.

Winner: Chris Sabin – 6:18
This match was ok, but was a backdrop for the angle to follow.

After the bout, Chris Candido and Andy Douglas and attack Sabin, but this brings out a man n a mask who cleans house. He takes the mask off and Mike Tenay gets off line of the year by declaring: “Its Shocker, direct from the McDonalds commercial!” That line has been the best thing on the whole show so far. I guess the McDonalds Commercial Wrestling Association is the breeding ground for tomorrow’s stars.

Thumb Position: In the Middle, it was fine but is not something you ever need to watch.

Impact: Mild, it was the debut of Shocker and not much else.

I’d just like to point out that even though the announcers didn’t know him until he took the mask off, the music guy was up to the task immediately having a song all ready for him that included the words “Shocker”. I guess he’d have looked like quite the idiot if it had not been Shocker huh?

At this point, the show is ok, if only it ended here.

We waste no time going to the next match. Don’t want to waste time here, we need to save it to be wasted later in the show.

Match 3: Bullrope Match – Dustin Rhodes Vs. Raven

This is a rematch from Against All Odds which was won by Raven. If you don’t remember that match, consider yourself lucky.

I can’t quite make it out but the fans are either chanting for Goldberg or Bullrope. One of the few times I’d prefer it be Goldberg.

Dustin uses the Ultimate X structure to do things to Raven that can only be classified as not really that nice.

Tenay says Raven has the experience edge but Dustin has the experience edge in this kind of match. Yeah, he worked for all of those years in companies that only had him wrestling in bullrope matches. I’m not sure what companies these are and I don’t care to find out.

We’re about 4 minutes in and they’re acting as though they’ve been at it for 4 hours. That’s ok though as that’s about how long it feels like I’ve been watching it.

The crowd in Orlando counts to 10 along with Dustin Rhodes. I didn’t think they’d make it to 10 so I guess I owe Euan $2. Euan if you’re reading this, collect from Nikolai Volkoff, I foresee you having no trouble getting it from him.

Dustin gets the pin with something and then gets attacked by Team Canada. America’s Most Wanted make the save. I guess this is revenge for Dustin laying Team Canada out on Impact, I only guess this because that’s what Mike Tenay said.

Winner: Dustin Rhodes – 6:10
The fact this was short almost makes me want to give it a point, but it wasn’t short enough.

Thumb Position: Down, I don’t care for this kind of match.

Impact: Mild, it ended this feud but nobody gained anything from it as both guys traded wins. This is TNA, the equality wrestling alliance.

We get a video package for Team Traci Vs. Team Trinity. I can’t wait to watch this match.

Match 4: Ron and Don Harris Vs. Phi Delta Slam

This was Traci’s Team, the Harris Twins Vs. Trinity’s team Phi Delta Slam. This was set up at Final Resolution when Dusty Rhodes told them each to get a tag team (although Dusty said that hadn’t wrestled in TNA before which they ignored later) and then each team was victorious in squash matches on the Against All Odds preshow. So this is the blowoff of the feud.

If you’ve never seen Phi Delta Slam, they are very fat. Travis Lutter would look at them and he’d say, they’re just a bit thinner than I am.

Tenay says that PDS come right out of Animal House. I will now never watch that movie. The announcers talk about how fat Big Tilly of PDS is only without actually using the word fat. I on the other hand will tell you that Tilly is so fat he got on a scale and it said “To be continued on the next scale”. I don’t want to say these guys are untalented sacks of shit because that’s an insult to Vince Russo who worked hard for that title.

The crowd is chanting for the Harris Twins, or Disciples of Destruction. It is bad when the Harris twins are the significantly cooler people to cheer for. Oh, actually I lied, you see when I said crowd I meant like 2 guys in the front row. Everyone else was wondering if PDS ate all of the food.

Oh, I forgot that the winner of this match Traci or Trinity wins the job as Dusty Rhodes’ personal assistant. Mike Tenay helpfully reminded me though, and I really hate Dusty Rhodes right now for booking this crap.

If you think to yourself that this match needs interference well Trinity was here to fulfill your desires. She’s the best worker here by lightyears.

Don West has the nerve to call Don Harris “Heavy D”, when he’s in with the second and third moon of Jupitor.

Another D.O.D. chant starts as I’m thinking of declaring a civil war on Orlando for encouraging these 4.

Trinity dives on Heavy D who catches and disposes her. The fans chant “Holy Shit”, and I’m thinking that war is too good for them, a nuclear strike is now required. Trinity sacrificed herself for her team says Mike Tenay. I’d like to think that my reviewing this match is equal to throwing myself on the entire Chinese army.

This match is making me look forward to the 2007 version of this show by virtue of the fact nothing can suck this bad. This match is just like Hardyz Vs. MNM from December to Dismember, accept for the part where even though it went too long it was good. This match is too long at 10 minutes whereas that was too long at 20 minutes. Of course, this match was too long at 1 minute. I’m begging for the quickest 3-count in history here.

Finally, the Sidewalk slam gets the pin for the Harris Twins and this match has ended and I’m not dead yet.

Winners: The Harris Twins – 10:18
Phi Delta Slam were hunting buddies of Dusty Rhodes. As Dusty foisted this match on me, I am advocating resinding his WWE Hall of Fame induction.

Thumb Position: Down, I wish my thumbs were longer so they could be pointed further down.

Impact: None, completely dropped after this shitty match.

Johnny Fairplay walks up to America’s Most Wanted and offers to be there manager. They blow him off. The nicest thing I can say about this skit is that at least its not the last match.

Match 5: Monty Brown Vs. Trytan

Monty Brown teamed with Diamond Dallas Page at Against All Odds to defeat Team Canada. Trytan is making his in ring debut, after he selected Monty as an opponent on an episode of iMPACT by appearing when Monty appeared. If it sounds stupid, TNA, remember This is TNA, the new face of stupidity.

Trytan does something that is so awesome it prompts the chant of: “You fucked Up”. I’m pretty sure that’s not the kind of chant he wanted.

This match goes out to the floor, now if they’d just brawl out of the building that’d make me so happy. It is a couple minutes in and at least 1 fan is chanting “boring”, and so he shall be spared when the bomb is dropped.

If I said this match was slow and plotting I wouldn’t be giving it justice for just how slow and plotting it has been. Trytan gets a 2 off of a chokeslam, if I had a time machine I’d go back and bribe the referee to count to 3.

A series of kicks and chops won’t put Trytan on his back. It is just like Wrestlemania III without all of the interest. Finally, Monty Brown slams the big fat stinky wart infested giant, but he does not drop the leg.

Remember how I was speaking of stupidity earlier? Get this for a finish, the lights go down, Trytan leaves the ring, a man much smaller than Trytan roles in (Mideon for those of you that care) he gets pounced and pinned. This was on page 3 of the big book of stupid finishes.

Winner: Monty Brown – 5:26
This was a classic case of why book this? They didn’t want Trytan losing in his debut but they didn’t want Monty to lose as he was hot at this time. Although Hindsight being what it is, Trytan should’ve lost.

Thumb Position: Down, just when I thought the last match was the worst thing on this show, this happened. At least this had the decency to be 5 minutes shorter, but then this had a worse finish. So deciding which match was worse is like deciding if it hurts more to be kicked in the left testicle or the right.

Impact: None, this was never resolved and Trytan was a non-factor almost immediately after this show ended. He may have become a non-factor when the crowd chanted “You fucked up”.

Diamond Dallas Page is backstage, and is making noises that suggest he needs some proons. I don’t know what is up but they immediately cut back to Tenay and West. Kind of odd.

A video package airs for the next match. Dusty says in the package that falls count anywhere inside or outside the building. Universal Studios put the hammer down regarding the outside the building part, probably after watching any bump taken by AJ Styles.

Match 6: Falls Count Anywhere – Jeff Hardy Vs. Abyss

A rematch of Full Medal Mayhem from Against All Odds which Abyss won to earn an NWA title shot which he never actually received.

After the last couple of matches, I don’t think I’ve ever been so happy to see Jeff Hardy or Abyss.

We get to the plunder right away if you weeeill. The crowd is definitely pro Hardy as he introduces a chair to Abyss and Abyss to the steps.

Don West says anything that is not nailed down Is going to be used, I hope that includes him.

They’re fighting backstage now and Abyss is looking for an uncomfortable place to dispose of the body of Jeff Hardy.

Hardy has Abyss laid on a table, climbs up something and dives off on Abyss. West describes it as unbelievable even though he saw him do something similar the prior month at Against All Odds.

Abyss takes control and tosses Hardy against the bleachers where the fans sit during the show. Fans chant “Holy Shit”, and I think it is not necessary. Don West asks me to think of the mental state of Jeff Hardy. Sorry but I was brave enough to watch the prior 2 matches and I shall go no further. Jeff Hardy’s mental state is where no man has gone before and rightfully so.

After like 6 minutes away give or take, they finally make their way back to the ring.

Don says we need to take the children out of the room, they don’t need to see this. He should’ve said that about 2 matches ago. Abyss gets a nearfall much to the surprise of the talking heads even though it ook him a minute or so to cover Hardy after his big spot.

Hardy hits Abyss with a chair shot to the head, goes for a second but Abyss has none of that. Abyss kicks out of Hardy’s pin attempt because he doesn’t know when to quit. Half the crowd wants tables and the other half wants fire. I want death…for all of those idiots.

Even though it is not what they wanted the crowd pops when Hardy brings out the ladder. In fairness those people who wanted fire could’ve wanted a ladder, this isn’t exactly the greatest audio on a DVD I’ve heard all-time, all my life.

Hardy gets another nearfall off of a legdrop that prompted a TNA chant. I think the problem with his legdrop is that he’s not Hulk Hogan. His legdrop is vorse than Hulk Hogan if you know what I’m saying. Abyss hits the shock treatment and gets 2. Hardy avoids the Abyss attack, he hits the ladder and Hardy scores another nearfall.

Don West says that there is not much more that these men can do to each other, he’s obviously never heard about the steps to an Old Country Humbling. I find that odd as I’d have guessed he’d be well acquainted with that concept. If that offends you Send me Email

Hardy tries a Hurricanrana and Abyss counters with a powerbomb and that draws a “Holy shit”, chant. West says Hardy is lucky to be alive, I say he’s lucky only if he didn’t see the prior 2 matches.

Hardy gets the pin with a twist of fait on a ladder.

Winner: Jeff Hardy – 15:48
This match was fine, and probably better than the match in February.

Abyss attacks Hardy after the bell and he introduces a bag of thumbtacks to the equation. Abyss hits a black hole slam on Jeff Hardy on the tacks. Don West calls this “just too much”.

Thumb Position: Up, this match was like all 3 Steamboat Vs. Flair matches from 89 compared to the prior 2 matches.

Impact: Minimal, Hardy went into a feud with Raven while Abyss moved to a brief feud with AJ Styles. This was another feud where they traded wins and it did nothing for either man.

We cut back to Scott D’Amoore and Team Canada. D’Amoore says all titles are within their grasp. Johnny Fairplay comes up and he asks D’Amoore if he can have 2 of his 5 guys. This is not met with open arms by the Canadians.

A video package airs for the next match. The audio levels are changed and the word “Outlaw” is removed because of a letter from WWE. I can’t believe TNA wasn’t smart enough to figure out that name wouldn’t fly sooner. Wait, yes I can, this is TNA.

I am now required to switch to the second disc, and I’m having second thoughts.

Match 7: First Blood Match - The Outlaw Vs. Kevin Nash

Outlaw debuted at Against All Odds by doing a run-in during the Nash-Jeff Jarrett title match which Nash would go on to lose. So that started this feud, God help us all.

Ordinarily I’d put good money on Kevin Nash Vs. Kip James as being the worst match on any card, but not with this show.

The audio is redone as Mike Tenay just referred to the Outlaw as Kip James. Now for the best part of this match, Kevin Nash’s theme music.

Tenay helpfully informs us that this First Blood Match is no Disqualification. Thank goodness, I’d hate for someone to get DQ’d while trying to make his opponent bleed.
Tenay says the rules are pretty simple, to which I say then this must not be a TNA gimmick match.

Kip is trying to open Nash up with a screwdriver. You know, I don’t believe that’s one of its proper uses.

Ok, the referee is taking chairs away from Nash even though it is not against the rules. Earlier Mike Tenay said the words “Steel Poll” and I immediately thought of Vince Russo. The chairshot did not open Nash up.

I know you’ll be stunned to hear this but I swear it is true. We had a ref bump in this match as Rudy Charles got wiped out. I’ll wait while you regain your composure.

Nash has opened up Kip but unfortunately for him, the ref is down. This prompts Jeff Jarrett to come out and clock Nash with the guitar. The TNA Cutman is out working on Kip James.

Yeah, the babyface lost the first blood match, and that’s all I’m going to say about this.

Winner: The Outlaw – 11:20
Yuck!

Nash pounds on Kip after the match. Losers have pounded on the winner to get revenges in 2 consecutive matches. Just to make sure everyone remains equal. He hits the Jackknife on Kip James and his music plays.

Thumb Position: Down, so predictable in terms of the finish and the quality.

Impact: Minimal, this was to lead to something but a staff infection for Nash ensured that it did not.

Tenay hates to say it, but Kip James scores the win. I hate to watch it but you don’t hear me complaining…you just read me complaining.

A video package for the Ultimate X match plays, and you know the Destination X bumper music here is even more ordinary than usual TNA music.

Match 8: Ultimate X Elimination Match – AJ Styles Vs. Christopher Daniels Vs. Elix Skipper Vs. Ron Killings

The set up for this was Dusty just picked 2 guys to be in the match, joining Styles and Daniels who were coming off their Ironman match at Against All Odds. I don’t know why they went with Killings but Skipper was a logical choice as he was getting a push at this time.

This match started out as a tag match, when someone was pinned it turned in to a 3-way until the next man was eliminated and then it was a 1-on-1 Ultimate X match. If it sounds complicated, remember you’re reading a TNA recap. A nice bit of continuity though as Styles is paired with Skipper and Daniels with Killings due to the fact XXX lost a stipulation match at Turning Point 2004 and weren’t allowed to team anymore. Vince Russo would’ve either forgotten or not cared so I’ll give Dusty that much. The commentary helps me out by noting that Ron Killings got his spot by defeating Michael Shane, so I guess they weren’t just picked at random.

I am a fan of AJ Styles and I am a fan of Christopher Daniels. Yet as AJ walks to the ring I am thinking to myself, this show just needs to end right now. I would not call this a resounding recommendation.

The problem with this format of match is that it is hard to care until it gets down to the last 2 because you know the belt isn’t changing until that point. Also, an Ultimate X match is really better if there are more than 2 people in it.

Elix Skipper pins Ron Killings to end the tag portion of the match.

Elimination 1: Ron Killings – 8:06

A pretty big Moonsault using the cables draws a “Holy Shit”, chant from the crowd. The XXX members work as a team during the early section of this 3-way bout.
I am more interested in filling out my picks for the CARE preview than watching it however.

After a few minutes of action, Daniels steels a pin on Elix Skipper. This would actually lead somewhere, so give them credit.

Elimination 2: Elix Skipper – 17:10

AJ and Daniels do some straight wrestling before they consider using the cables. Styles hits the Pele and Don West nearly dies of excitement.

Crowd says that this is awesome, I say they have low standards. It is good, but I’d not call it awesome. The PDS Vs. Harris Twins was awesome, I mean the suckiness of it literally filled me with awe.

AJ brings the belt down but the referee doesn’t see it. Daniels hits the angel’s wings and grabs the already downed belt. Andrew Thomas is revived, yeah another ref bump, and sees Daniels with the belt and gives him the win.

Winner: Christopher Daniels – 25:19
It was probably the best match on the show but talk about faint praise.

Thumb Position: Up, it was fine but not outstanding or anything.

Impact: Significant, this match led to the Daniels X-title reign which led to the 3-way feud with AJ Styles and Samoa Joe that carried TNA during the latter half of 2005.

We go backstage to Johnny Fairplay. He butters up to Lex Lovitt and Buck Quartermaine so they’ll sign the contract. Hey, guess what? This didn’t lead anywhere, I know you’re shocked.

A video package airs hyping up the so-called main event.

Match 9: NWA World Heavyweight Title – Jeff Jarrett Vs. Diamond Dallas Page

Dallas Page teamed with Monty Brown at Against All Odds to defeat Team Canada. Jeff Jarrett defeated Monty Brown at Final Resolution and Kevin Nash at Against All Odds so DDP was the last of that group of 3 challengers.

The stipulation for this match is that people who Jeff Jarrett have wronged in the past are at ringside to prevent him from cheating. Gee, I wonder what will happen?

It is not just 2007 TNA shows that are overloaded with gimmicks.

All of the not lumberjacks come out to their own entrences to kill some tme before the main event. The 2 combatants come out and get the UFC and boxing style introductions. Crowd tells Jarrett that he sucks. For my money they could be talking about both of hese guys.

The match starts out with some healthy stalling on behalf of Jeff Jarrett. Yeah, that’s what was missing from this show, stalling. DDP turns his back and Jarrett attacks. This offense is short lived as DDP goes for the cutter but Jarrett avoids it. Jarrett has words with Monty Brown on the floor, I wonder if that will mean anything?

I’m about to write something about a Jeff Jarrett match that you’d never expect to read. There was crowd brawling and weapons shots during which Jarrett took a beating. This show is full of surprises huh?

I’m alternately glad and disappointed that I wasn’t doing podcasts with Euan and Art at the time of this show. Oh, the rant. I’m not even ranting as hard in this recap as I feel like doing I mean I am tired so I’m not injecting as much Venom as I’d like.

The men who were to keep Jarrett from cheating did not do a good job. The Naturals, Chris Candido Larry Zbyszko, 3Live Krew, Kip James, Sean Waltman all interfered. Page finally hits the cutter on Jarrett. Monty Brown hits the ring, hits a pounce on DDP and gets the pin. Don West asks: “Why would he do that?” It is a good question because that turn made no sense. Mike Tenay is pissed by Gawd!

Winner: Jeff Jarrett – 21:40
This was the typical Jarrett formula and not even close to as good as the Jarrett-Nash match from Against All Odds.

Thumb Position: Down, an unnecessary turn and a billion run-ins were not unexpected but on an already bad show it was all she wrote.

Impact: Minimal, it was just another defense for Jarrett. The Monty Brown turn was not welcome and the feud with DDP never amounted to much. If you’re sensing a pattern that makes you smarter than Dusty Rhodes who booked this crap and Vince Russo who books this crap now.

Overall Show Thoughts:
This show was horrible. Some truly awful wrestling involving people you’d expect to be involved, the one sure fire good match going in was ruined by wacky rules that hurt the concept to begin with and this show featured some all-time lame backstage skits and a really horrible finish to a match that was death inspiring to begin with. Thumbs are obviously very down for the first ever Destination X.

The Scoring:

Wrestling Quality: 3, a point each for the Styles match, the Hardy match and half a point for the opening 2 matches.

Backstage Quality: 0, does the phrase no redeeming quality mean anything to you?

Crowd Heat: 5, these people tries, but they should not have tried this hard.

Announcing: 4, nothing to stupid but they’ve done better.

Booking: 0, unnecessary turns, bad finishes, horrible matches, matches going 10 minutes longer than needed, Dusty Rhodes earned that 0.

IMPACT Analysis: 1, the full point goes to Christopher Daniels winning the X-title.

Replay Factor: 0, only if you are being tortured.

Average: 1.9, I bet ECW December to Dismember would get a better score. At least it would be close.

Is it worth Buying the DVD?: Bwahahahahahahahahahaha!

They got lucky with Ultimate X which I still think is a better concept than a ladder match, and I find it funny that they mention 6 sides of steel given that's just a cage match with 2 extra sides. King of the Mountain is the most complicated thing ever.
