Casey-Art-Wade-Marcus, were correct as we all predicted a Christian Cage victory. Ric-Euan-Scott were not so lucky, and this one cost Ric and Euan the first place tie.
Wade: 6-3, Casey-Ric-Euan: 5-4, Art-Scott-Marcus: 4-5.

Now you know how against all odds played out. I can only speak for myself, but I’m glad I went with AJ at the last minute and wish I hadn’t changed my mind on Hemme.

NWA-TNA Against All Odds 2007 Live Coverage

Hello all and welcome to this month's live coverage of NWA-TNA Against All Odds. As usual, I will not do coverage of the pre-show as other people do that. Stay tuned to the Times for coverage of the actual PPV.

Team 3D come out at the end of the pre-show and tell LAX to come out right away. Konnan distracts Team 3D so LAX can ambush them to start. Hernandez tries for a high risk move but D-Von smacks him in the head with a chair. Bubba gives Homicide a Fallaway slam on the ramp. LAX got more plunder! Excellent double team move by LAX gets 2. Homicide has a pizza cutter runs it across D-Von's head. Ray has a cheese grater and runs it over Homicide's head. 3 dudes just came in and Team 3D take them back out. GET THE TABLES?! D-Von does a cross body block onto the 3 dudes that came in earlier which allows LAX to do more double teaming for 2. A bloody D-Von gets a nearfall. The 3 dudes hold onto D-Von's legs which allows Hernandez to hit the Border Toss for the win.

Backstage with JB interviewing Austin Starr. He talks about his match with Senshi then Backlund shows up and and uses big words again. Senshi has the advantage and gets a nearfall. Starr turns it around with a suicide dive and a series of elbows gets 2. Starr with another nearfall. Starr really owning Senshi now with a nice chop. Misses the pendulum elbow but gets a powerbomb pin for 2. Starr now taunting him and Senshi answers back with a clothesline and a series of kicks. Senshi chopping the crap out of Starr now for a nearfall. Senshi blocks a suplex and Starr answers with a crossface Chicken wing but Senshi gets out of it and tries for a doublestomp but Starr gets the chicken wing on again. Senshi bridges back and gets his shoulder up at the last second for the win. Starr now throwing chairs into the ring. He's demanding a restart to the match. Backlund now comes down to the ring and goes ape on Starr. Starr slaps Backlund who puts the his own chicken wing on and takes Starr out of the ring.

Backstage with Christian, Tomko and Steiner. There's some dissention in the ranks but Cage tries to be a peacemaker.

We're now onto Christy Hemme's match. Her opponent for tonight is...drumroll please...BIG FAT OILY GUY?!?!?! Christy took off all of his clothes which is always a horrible sight. Kip James has now come out and rips her shirt off.

Backstage with a viewing party for the latest video from Paparazzi Productions. We only get the first part of the video as they go to a video for Basebrawl 2. Hoyt takes early control. AJ low blows Hoyt then throws him into the security rail. Marcus was wondering about how many times Undertaker has won the WWE title so I went to check that out. That shows you how interested I am in this match. AJ hits Hoyt with a chair which allows Toreborg to get a pin. Eckstein convinces the ref to turn it around and Ecstein hits Toreborg in the back which allows Hoyt to get the official win.

Backstage again with another part of the video. Shelley is hiding in a closet as Eric gives her some half eaten chocolates and plastic flowers as this part ends.

We are now onto Rhino vs. Styles. Styles is reluctant at first but eventually gets hooked to the chain. Styles tries to get himself unchained but Rhino goes after him. Rhino overpowers Styles and rams him into the steel post. Belly to Belly suplex. Styles counters the Gore and wraps the chain around his fist. AJ tries to grab the key but Rhino pulls him down. Nearfall by AJ. Rhino gains control and gets a nearfall. Rhino goes up another pole and gets the nightstick. Styles turns it around and uses the nightstick. Styles hits an excellent frog splash then unlocks himself and fakes leaving. AJ is now taunting him the key, hits a payley but Rhino answers with a Gore. Hebner kicks the key to Rhino. Rhino tries for a Gore through a table but Styles moves out of the way and gets the win.

We are now onto part 3 of the video. Traci is now teasing Eric and tells him to close his eyes. She gets him to sign for Robert Roode, Inc. Backlund breaks it up and goes ape again.

We're now up to the X-Division title match. Lynn tries for the cradle piledriver early on but Sabin bails out. Lynn tries to get out of a headlock but Sabin takes the low road. Sabin tries for a high risk move but Lynn moves out of the way. Sabin back in control and gets a nearfall. Nice dropkick in the corner gets Sabin 2. Sabin in complete control. Lynn with an excellent set of dropkicks, back body drop and punches in the corner. Lynn with a nearfall. Series of nearfalls by both men. Sabin rolled up Lynn and uses the ropes for the win.

Roode and Brooks come out to the ring. He introduces Eric Young as the new member and he jumps at the pyro again (which is classic). Roode goes on about how Eric and the fans are worthless. Eric grabs the mic from Roode but doesn't say anything.

Now onto the mixed tag team match. Storm and Petey start it out but they tag in the women after a while. Petey tagged back in and chops Storm on the outside. Storm takes control inside with a nice clothesline. Nearfall by Storm. Eye of the Storm and a tag to Jacquie who gets a nearfall. Petey now rams Storm's head into the ringpost. Gail tags in and hits an awesome top rope dropkick but the pin is broken up by Storm. Ref is distracted which allows Storm to hit Gail and gets Jacquie the win. Storm tries to hit Petey with beer bottle by Petey turns it around then Jacquie stops him and they take out the ref then try to give the Death Sentence to Petey but Chris Harris comes in with an eye patch and runs them out.

Prison Yard match up next.

Sting takes it to Abyss to start. Abyss throws Sting into a dumpster. Sting splashes Abyss through a table from the top of the dumpster. Now to the outside of the ring where Sting finds a babrwire baseball bat and hammers Abyss with it. Tries to get Abyss in the cage but Abyss hits him. Sting goes outside, takes Mitchell's belt and whips him with it. Abyss sends a table into the ring and tries to get Sting into the cage but Sting fights him off. Abyss smacks Sting with one of the police lights from the turnbuckle. Sting fights off staying in the cage. Abyss now brings out a barb wire table. Blackhole Slam and Abyss takes the mask off Sting and tries to put Sting in the cage again but he fights out again and gets a Deathdrop. Mitchell tries to come in but Sting catches him and puts him in the Deathlock. Abyss tries to climb up the cage but Sting catches him, hits him with the barbwire bat, powerbombs him into the barbwire table that was put on the other table then throws him in the cage and locks it. Sting is now choking Mitchell but securitybreaks it up.

Main event next.

Angle and Cage go at it for a while and Joe comes out. Angle tries for the Ankle lock early but Cage gets to the ropes. Angle rams Cage's back into the turnbuckle. Nearfall for Angle. Cage with a neckbreaker to Angle on the outside. Cage now taunting Angle. Exchange of blows with Angle coming out on top and gets 2. Attempt for the Angle Slam, then attempt at Unprettier then an Ankle lock but Cage gets to the ropes then low blows him and gets the Unprettier for 2. Cage now impersonating Steiner. Angle catapults Cage into the turnbuckle then a belly to belly suplex from the top. Angle hits 7 German Suplexes and gets a nearfall. Styles comes in to distract Angle but Joe chases him out whihc allows Christian to hit Angle with a chair and Frog Splash for a close nearfall. Cage with another Unprettier for 2. Joe distracts the ref while Angle goes for the Ankle lock. Ref bump and Angle gets 2 after an Angle slam. Another ref bump and Tomko comes out, takes out Joe and gets german suplexed. CARE and some other vuz, vuz, vuz Jabronis Roundtable Preview: TNA Against All Odds 2007

Sunday: February 11, 2006
Universal Studios, Orlando Florida
7:30 PM ET Pre-show, 8:00 PM Pay Per View

Casey: This show looks bad on Paper even for a TNA show. I usually find relief in these TNA shows by the fact that I’ll probably see at least one good match on a given show and often more, but I don’t think that I’ll find that relief this time. Also if I finish last in this prediction contest like I did last month, expect a Rampage and I don’t mean Quinton Jackson. On a personal note, I love Ric’s picks.

Relive the past years of Against All Odds.

Lets Take a look at the standings:
First we have 1 TNA show in the books

Marcus: 1 event, 6 wins, 2 losses 75%
Ric: 1 event, 4 wins, 4 losses 50%
Art: 1 Event, 3 Wins, 5 losses 37.5%
Euan: 1 event, 3 wins, 5 losses for 37.5%
Scott: 1 Event, 3 wins, 5 losses 37.5%
Wade: 1 event, 3 wins, 5 losses 37.5%
Casey: 1 Event, 2 wins, 6 losses 25%

Looking at Pro Wrestling overall including TNA and WWE.
Marcus: 2 events, 9 wins, 4 losses for 69.23%
Wade: 2 events, 8 wins, 5 losses for 61.54%
Scott: 2 events, 7 wins, 6 losses for 53.85%
Ric: 3 events, 10 wins, 10 losses for 50%
Casey: 3 events, 9 wins, 11 losses for 45%
Art: 3 events, 7 wins, 12 losses for 36.84%
Euan: 3 events, 6 wins, 13 losses for 31.58%

Now looking at the current overall standings.
Wade: 5 Events, 26 wins, 14 losses for 65.00%
Marcus: 5 events, 26 wins, 14 losses for 65.00%
Ric: 6 Events, 28 wins, 19 losses for 59.57%
Scott: 5 Events, 23 wins, 17 losses for 57.50%
Euan: 6 events, 25 wins, 21 losses for 54.35%
Casey: 6 events, 25wins, 22 losses for 53.19%
Art: 6 events, 24 wins, 22 losses for 52.17%

Wade: So here we are at Against All Odds. This should really be called "Against All Normal Matches" since half are gimmick matches. I actually saw the Impact leading up to this show and they tried to make an exciting end spot to make you really wanna watch AAO but it seemed forced and rushed which is never a good combination. It'll be interesting to see how many crazy finishes we get.

Preshow Match: Jay Lethal and Sonjay Dutt Vs. Serotonin

Casey: These preshow matches are worth an easy point. Dutt and Lethal are getting new looks and Serotonin never win.
Winners: Sonjay Dutt and Jay Lethal

Art: Sonjay and Lethal on the pre-show match? I guess it makes sense to most as these two are PCS jabronis. Who's Serotonin, are those Raven's Flunkies? Should be a fun, high-flying match that'll get lost in space forever.
Winners: Sonjay/Lethal

Ric: Who?
Winners: Those first guys

Euan: Who the fuck cares about Serotonin?
Winners: Sonjay Dutt and Jay Lethal

Wade: What is Serotonin's use in TNA besides jobbers? They're gonna lose just so Raven can come out and cane one of them
Winners: Jay Lethal and Sonjay Dutt

Scott: Serotonin’s gimmick is that they always lose so, your winners…
Winners: Jay Lethal and Sonjay Dutt

Marcus: Winners: Sonjay Dutt and Jay Lethal

Mixed Tag: James Storm/Ms. Tennessee Vs. Petey Williams and Gail Kim

Casey: If not for my self-imposed ban on hating on Russo, this would be the match where my hatred would come out the most. Instead I’m going to tell you that it seems that it is about time for Chris Harris to have heeled up and cost James Storm the match. Oh, and of course as Gail is involved, she’s hot and I want her, that is all.
Winners: Petey Williams and Gail Kim

Art: Not a fan of the mixed tags, is this Jacqueline's first TNA match? I'm curious how both teams work together individually.
Winners: Petey/Gail

Ric: Eh
Winners: Storm and Tennessee

Euan: Winners: James Storm and Ms. Tennessee

Wade: This match would make a little more sense if Chris Harris were in it. Guess they really wanted to have this match and anybody remotely connected to this team would do.
Winners: James Storm and Ms. Tennessee (though they'll probably continue the feud no matter what)

Scott: The real winners will be all the people not watching this match. The match winners will be…
Winners: James Storm and Ms. Tennessee

Marcus: Winners: James Storm and Ms. Tennessee

Christy Hemme Vs. Mystery Opponent

Casey: I’m not sure who it could be. I know TNA wants Lita but wanting something and getting it are too different things. I guess Jackie Gayda is possible but it might still be too soon after giving birth she might want to work her way back in to shape. Traci is still on the roster and that exercises all of the women who aren’t already tied up in things. It could also be a swerve and be a man like Kip James and god would that suck bad? Either way, I see Kip screwing her out of the match leading to yet more fantastic things in this feud.
Winner: TBD

Art: Will it be Lita as her opponent? Either way it doesn't matter to me.
Winner: TBD

Ric: Sadly, I already know the opponent.
Winner: Christy, I guess.

Euan: This is going to be horrible no matter who the opponent is going to be. I'm sorry but i have absolutely no hope whatsoever for this match, it might as well be Vince Russo in a dress...in fact...
Winner: TBD

Wade: I believe this will have one of two outcomes: They'll actually get Lita signed (fat chance) or it'll be Kip James. It looks like they're trying to give Christy a push so...
Winner: Christy Hemme

Scott: I will pick Lita because it won't happen and Russo probably did the whole swerve thing....again so it won't matter anyway
Winner: Christy Hemme

Marcus: Could this be Lita? I suppose its possible.
Winner: Christy Hemme

Basebrawl 2: Team Eckstein (Lance Hoyt) Vs. Team Pierzynski (Dale Torborg)

Casey: Time once again for our attempt to get on Sportscenter. It is too bad being on Sportscenter has meant nothing for them in the past. The winner is obvious for so many reasons, mainly it’s the guy that will still be with the company the next day. Oh, and choosing Hoyt for this spot would be like if at WrestleMania you had Val venis managed by Donald Trump against Scotty Too Hotty managed by Vince McMahon.
Winner: Lance Hoyt

Art: This sucks. I fuckin' hate baseball. This got some press but expect only 30,000 buys again next month.
Winner: Hoyt (if not he's fucked)

Ric: Huh?
Winners: Babyfaces (ed note: Hoyt)

Euan: Why? WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU TNA? WHO IS GOING TO PAY TO WATCH A MATCH CENTERED AROUND BASEBALL PLAYERS? THAT'S RIGHT, NOT A FUCKING PERSON!!!!!!!!!
Winner: Team Eckstein – Lance Hoyt

Wade: A big, crappy wrestler vs. a big, crappy former wrestler. "The Demon" makes his return for the ring for what I hope is the last time in one of the dumbest gimmick matches of all time.
Winner: Lance Hoyt

Scott: This is the match where I say that Russo needs to be shot.
Winner: Lance Hoyt

Marcus: Winner: Dale Torborg

Motor City Chain Match: Rhino Vs. AJ Styles

Casey: First, Scott read my choice and decided to pick Rhino because I did, well to teach him a lesson in a way that could backfire on me I have altered my prediction. AJ is headed in to a stable with Steiner, Christian and Tomko and I think he’ll go over on Rhino here. Rhino is good at losing to others. The only thing about this match that worries me is that the chain likely keeps Styles from doing a lot of his high-flying which as a heel he probably shouldn’t do anyway.
Winner: AJ Styles

Art: we have this match again, hope there's no fuck-finish. I'd say Rhino prevails but he seems to get screwed with victories, AJ got the best of him last time, so maybe Rhino gets it? I don't know, that seems logical.
Winner: Rhino

Ric: Hmmm….
Winner: Styles?

Euan: Winner: Rhino

Wade: Ah, the old standby gimmick match. I like to think of this as a Bullrope match with a twist. Rhino has turned his losing streak in a mediocre fashion and hopefully he gets a better win this time.
Winner: Rhino

Scott: I’m picking Rhino because I read Casey picked him.
Winner: Rhino

Marcus: Winner: Rhino

Little Italy Streetfight: Team 3D Vs. The Latin American Xchange

Casey: 3D is taking this one. They’re taking it if it is for the titles, but they are definitely taking it if it is not for the titles. Just so we’re clear, I’m almost certain this affair is non-title, thank goodness TNA is so good at making these things clear.
Winners: Team 3D

Art: I guess Team 3D is from Little Italy? Will there be Italian flags all over the ring? I'd like to see LAX kick 3D's ass, those guys haven't meant shit to me in TNA.
Winners: LAX

Ric: Ha, Ha, Ha.
Winners: The Really Fat Guys

Euan: I have lost track of how many times we have seen this exact match over the last six months, seriously is no-one else wanting to fight LAX? This isn't Bobby Lashley on Raw looking for an opponent where no one wants to be the figurehead of a shitty brand. Also, what the fuck is a Little Italy Streetfight? Is Dixie Carter going to break into an Italian restaurant, steal the entire set including the chef, put it in the Impact Zone and let them at it? In fact, that sounds awesome! I demand this to occur, instead we will have another clusterfucktastic match.
Winners: LAX

Wade: Another old standby gimmick match. I don't know what to think of this feud since it isn't really centered on the NWA Tag Titles. I also don't know where this feud is headed.
Winners: Team 3D

Scott: Team 3D will win but I think that Bubba needs his ass kicked for real because He is worse then Hulk Hogan~!
Winners: Team 3D

Marcus: Winners: LAX

X-division Title: Chris Sabin Vs. Jerry Lynn

Casey: Even though this is Rusoo and the tendancy is for him to change the belts as often as I take showers, I don’t see it this month. I see Sabin screwing Lynn over and Lynn challenging Sabin to his very own specialty the Ultimate X match for March and Destination X. Actually, seeing that and realizing how much sense it makes I’m beginning to have doubts. Also it is now being reported that the new gimmick match TNA will announce on Monday is called “Elevation X” and involves a scaffold, so be afraid be very afraid and these 2 could be candidates for it.
Winner: Chris Sabin

Art: should be a great match, not sure if Lynn will get the title but I know he'll put out an awesome performance.
Winner: Sabin

Ric: This again?
Winner: Lynn

Euan: Winner: Chris Sabin

Wade: This has been a somewhat entertaining feud. It's a nice way to get Lynn back in the ring and Sabin is great as a heel.
Winner: Chris Sabin

Scott: Sabin has been champ for a month which is like 3 years in Russo time, so in what could be the best match on the show…
Winner: Jerry Lynn

Marcus: Winner: Jerry Lynn

Prison Yard Match: Sting Vs. Abyss

Casey: This is also so obvious I’ll probably get it wrong. Sting will lock Abyss in the cage and this will trigger some repressed memory or something stupid like that and then wackiness will occur resulting in a face turn for Abyss.
Winner: Sting

Art: This feud/storyline does not interest me. It really insults my intelligence.
Winner: Abyss

Ric: This again?
Winner: Sting

Euan: Winner: Sting

Wade: Another strange gimmick match by the master of strange gimmick matches. The idea of having them start outside the arena is...different. What are they gonna do with the cage after the loser is in it?
Winner: Sting

Scott: I hope Sting wins, Abyss finally turns face and this feud is ended.
Winner: Sting

Marcus: Winner: Abyss

NWA World Heavyweight Title Kurt Angle Vs. Chrristian Cage w/Samoa Joe as Unofficial Enforcer.

Casey: I know I’m flirting with last place again but I don’t see the title changing here. It will be interesting and by interesting I mean an afterthought as we’ll see how much influence Angle really has as Angle feels Christian should have a long title run. We shall see. Also we’ve got about 500 people at ringside for this, I guess to make it easy for them to do run-ins, but hey at least TNA has basically told us ahead of time that a bunch of people will be running in to make this an overbooked mess. Also, if Samoa Joe is the unofficial enforcer, who is the official enforcer?
Winner: Christian Cage

Art: I can't see Angle winning the title already but you never know with this company and Vince "Hotshotting everything" Russo. Angle and Joe could have some tension and Steiner might get in Joe's face and distract him thus not helping Tomko.
Winner: Cage

Ric: Ug
Winner: Kurt Angle

Euan: Winner: Kurt Angle

Wade: The deck seems to be stacked against Joe and Angle here. Cage not only has Tyson Tomko with him but also the "Big Bad Booty Daddy." Christian doesn't want to lose the title and I don't wanna see another Angle/Joe match so soon.
Winner: Christian Cage

Scott: The right thing to do would be to have Angle chase for the title. The stupid thing would be to just keep trading it back and forth every month. So given who’s booking…
Winner: Kurt Angle

Marcus: Winner: Christian Cage

Casey: The OCC will have more live coverage for this show than it deserves starting at 7:30 PM ET.

Art: Card looks okay, not enough for me to buy it though. TNA has been dead to me personally, I know it's there yet I don't follow it much at all. So no live coverage or "A look back at..." review from me tonight.

Ric: PS. I was feeling better until I began thinking about TNA.

Scott: It looks bad on paper so the show has a pretty good chance of sucking but there is a small chance that they may pull something out of their asses.

Quick Pick Guide…
Dutt/Lethal Vs. Serotonin
Unanimous: Dutt/Lethal

Mixed Tag: Storm/Tennessee Vs. Williams/Kim
Casey/Art: Williams/Kim, Everyone else: Storm/Tennessee

Christy Hemme Vs. TBD
Casey-Art-Euan: TBD, Ric-Wade-Scott-Marcus: Hemme

Basebrawl II: Hoyt Vs. Torborg
Marcus: Torborg, Everyone else, Hoyt

Little Italy Streetfight: Team 3D Vs. Lax

iMPACT Analysis: TNA Against All Odds 2006

Just in time for tonight's version of the show.

Now that we’ve banged out the 2005 version of Against All Odds we move on to a show that took place coincidentally enough 1-year after that show, and amazingly enough 1-year prior to this upcoming one.

What is the iMPACT Analysis? I take a look back at the given event and I try to provide context for each match. Looking at what each participant had been doing prior to their match with their given opponent and I also look at how the result of the match impacted the future direction of the wrestlers, the titles and the promotion as a whole. Then at the end I rate the show on a number of criteria.

All of these are rated on a scale from 0-10.

Wrestling Quality: How was the in-ring action on the show?
Backstage Quality: How were the promos, backstage skits and other angles?
Crowd Heat: Was the crowd in to the show?
Announcing: Were they on point, humorous, say something completely stupid?
Booking: Did the storyline direction make sense? Did the right man or team go over in the end?
iMPACT Analysis: How did this show iMPACT the company? Was it memorable, a complete throwaway, somewhere in the middle?
Replay Factor: How much of this would you ever want to view a second time?
Average: Taking the score in each of the above categories and dividing it by the number of categories and that determines the show score.
Is it worth buying the DVD? Asks if this DVD is worth the purchase or not.

Event: TNA: Against All Odds, 2006
Event Date: 02/12/2006
Event Venue: Universal Studios, Orlando Florida
Announcers: Mike Tenay and Don West

On the Preshow, you would’ve seen…
Ron Killings pinned A-1 (1:43).

Lance Hoyt, Cassidy Riley, & Shark Boy beat Shannon Moore, David Young, & Elix Skipper (5:49) when Hoyt pinned Skipper.
ProWrestlingHistory.com gets the credit for those results, and all match times. They get credit for those preshow results even though it is on this DVD, but if you think I’m watching that you really don’t understand how I work.

This is TNA, the new face of Professional Wrestling…because after Final Resolution we were banned from showing our old face in public. If you need a refresher coarse on how bad that show was, Click here for my review

We see Christian arrive at the building; he guarantees victory in his match tonight. We see Jarrett arriving as well and Eric Young is convinced that Sting is coming back. Young is the first and thus far only member of Team Canada to establish any kind of personality. Jarrett gets Young to repeat, “Sting is gone”, and then D’Amoore lectures Young.

We start the actual show with a video package of Christian and Jarrett. Jarrett calls
Jarrett calls Christian a midcard comedy act, pot I'd like you to meet my friend kettle. Jarrett takes time out from his busy day to remind us that he took Hulk Hogan out even before he could get to TNA. It is weird because in the video to open the preshow the focus was on the X-division title bout, which was not mentioned in the actual show opening video.

Match 1: Austin Aries and Roderick Strong Vs. The Naturals

David Penzer is doing the ring announcing on this show, as Jeremy Borash was shifted to backstage interviewer.

Aries and Strong were victorious at Final Resolution along with Alex Shelley in a 6-man tag, while the Naturals had lost to LAX on the Final Resolution preshow. These teams met in the first round of a tag team tournament to find the #1 contenders for this show and Aries and Strong who were on a nice little roll at this time won that match.

I can tell you for sure one thing I already prefer about the 2006 version of Against All Odds as compared to 2005 is the fact that the show is not split across 2 DVDs. I was glad for the day when TNA discovered duel layer discs.

Tenay says that the Naturals just haven’t had it since they lost the tag titles to AMW in October 2005, (10/22/2005 to be exact) but he’s not telling the truth, this team never had it even when they had the belts. Most ordinary team ever, and I think that may be why they’re called the Naturals.

It is not surprising that this match is not really the formula tag match in the opening. This is an x-division tag match with all the high-flying. The heels have their fan support and all of the early wacky dives have drawn “TNA” chants.

Now we get back to a normal familiar tag match with the heels keeping Chase Stevens, the Blonde Natural for those who know them better as “Blonde hair, and dark haired Natural”, isolated in their half of the ring. Quick tags from the heels, cocky pin attempts off of an elbow from the bottom rope by Aries, all the basics.

Douglas finally gets the hot tag and delivers rights to both Aries and Strong. If I were uncreative, I’d call him a house of fire. As I’m creative person I prefer to refer to him as a dwelling a blaze.

The heels take Stevens out so they can double-team Douglas. A couple of nearfalls soon follow. Stevens finally makes the save. Natural Disaster attempt fails, the heels attempt at using the ropes to cheat like they did in the first match also fails and the Natural Disaster finishes them shortly thereafter.

Winners: The Naturals – 10:29
A fun opening match, but it is too bad the heels were being punished; they were hot and should’ve gone over.

Thumb Position: Slightly up, a fun enough opener considering that it involved the Naturals.

Impact: very mild, The Naturals were nothing but jobbers by the next show while Aries and Strong were suspended for not coming to Orlando the night before and instead working a RoH event. Strong would come back for 1 more match on iMPACT in a world X-cup qualifier and Austin Aries wouldn’t return until October and be repackaged as Austin Starr.

Tenay and West talk about the card for a show we’ve already paid for, that’s one thing TNA does I hate why run down the card of a show I’ve already paid to see. They recap the preshow where Larry Zbyszko guarantees a level playing field for tonight so that the best man will win. Remember this for later, and if you forget don’t worry TNA will be sure to remind you.

Borash is backstage and interviewing America’s Most Wanted. Harris says Sabin and Dutt were impressive in the tournament, defeating all of TNA’s top teams, I should not this was a 4 team tournament. D’Amoore now walks in and Jackie Gayda is there and something is said about demands and now Larry Zbyszko shows up to tell everyone in this segment that anyone that interferes in the main event tonight will be fired on the spot. Keep that in mind, it will be important later. There were only about 8 people in this 1 minute segment and I’ve almost forgotten about it completely 30 seconds later. Not exactly what I consider affective use of time.

Match 2: X-division 4 Way – Petey Williams Vs. Jay Lethal Vs. Alex Shelley Vs. Matt Bentley

Shelley was in the midst of the Paparazzi angle with Sting and was the only one of these 4 with any kind of story. Lethal and Williams didn’t even appear on the Final Resolution Pay Per View show, only the preshow and if you read the opening on the last match, you should know that Bentley was on the losing end of that 6 man tag while Shelley was on the winning end.

Williams and Bentley start things off. I’ll bet its not long before all 4 men end up in the ring.

I used to not be a fan of these multi-man x-division matches that served only to showcase spots, but then I realized that if these matches weren’t on the show, TNA would find something worse to take their place, so I’ll take a match like this over say a VKM and Christy Hemme promo any day.

Crowd is solidly behind Lethal in the early going, even though at this point in TNA Lethal had only done job work. He even draws a “Lethal Weapon” chant. Tenay makes a big deal about the ages of everyone in the match, saying that they average 23 years of age and run the gambit from 26 (Bentley) to 20 (Lethal).

Sure enough it eventually breaks down to all 4 men in the ring.

Finish comes as Petey goes for the Destroyer, but Jackie Gayda comes out and goes for Alex Shelley, this caused Williams to be distracted, and Lethal rolls him up for the pin. I’ll bet trying to follow the Jackie storyline is what distracted Petey.

Winner: Jay Lethal – 10:30
It was fine.

Thumb Position: Slightly up, again a spotfest, which is something, I’d rather see more than most of what TNA is doing now.

Impact: Mild, about all this accomplished was giving Jay Lethal his first real win in TNA.

Borash interviews Rhino. He has no fear and threatens to stuff Jim Mitchell up Abyss’ ass. Larry Z comes in and delivers the message that anyone interfering in the main event will be fired. Got that? Anyone interfering will be fired. Just in case you didn’t get it, Larry repeats it. This could be important.

A video package airs, centering on the James Gang feud with LAX as Ron Killings talks about the Breakup of 3LK as sad music plays in the background. You’ve also got B.G. James protesting about what LAX did to his daddy. They show the clip of where Kip declares he’s got 3 words for us: “Get it, got it, good”. Kip is such a geek.

Match 3: The James Gang Vs. Latin American Xchange (Homicide and Machete) w/Konnan
James Gang defeated the Diamonds in the Rough at Final Resolution while Konnan and Homicide defeated the Naturals. Somewhere after that is when Machete joined LAX to take all of the losses.

I guess 1 reason I like LAX is when you compare LAX now to what they were at the time of this show, they are vastly more awesome. Dropping Machete adding Hernandez changing the music and adding the Spanish intro made the gimmick so much better. Konnan tells B.G. “I did what I did, because it is what I do”. Strangely enough, I completely understand.

B.G. James takes his turn to talk and if you don’t know what he says, I’d like to thank you for discovering professional wrestling on this very day. LAX becomes my favorite team for all-time, all my life because they prevent us from hearing Kip James say anything.

The announcers spend more time recapping the Genesis of this feud so to speak than they do calling the action. I’d like to think it is because this match sucks. West claims some sympathy for Konnan and Tenay gets all huffy.

Konnan does some regular cheating behind the referee’s back. I should not that Konnan is wearing a Raiders Jersey.

The James Gang pin Machete and then don’t get much of a chance to celebrate as Konnan’s slapjack comes in to play. Thankfully, Bob Armstrong comes out to stare down Konnan. Yes, Konnan got intimidated by a 66 year-old man. How LAX was able to get over to any degree considering this was their first feud kind of amazes me.

Winners: The James Gang – 5:59
I've got nothing to say, nothing at all.

Thumb Position: Down, at least this was short.

Impact: Mild, this feud would continue for a few more months much to my disappointment.

Slick Johnson is back with Larry Z and wants to know who will be refereeing the main event tonight. Gee, now they’re making a big deal about who is referee, I wonder if something is up?

Now we move on to the first of 3 title matches.
Chris Sabin hurt his ankle during the finals of the tournament which in Kayfabe terms was the night before on iMPACT but was actually 2 weeks prior at the TV tapings.

Match 4: NWA World Tag Team Titles – Sonjay Dutt and Chris Sabin Vs. America’s Most Wanted
Dutt and Sabin won the #1 contendership by winning a tag team tournament on iMPACT. They defeated Aries and Strong in the finals. AMW had defended the titles successfully against Team 3D at Final Resolution in a match with one of the dumbest finishes ever.

They show the ankle injury and it doesn’t look like anything that felt good. The challengers have separate introductions, could that be a factor? I don’t think so!

Tenay calls AMW the greatest tag team in TNA history. I’m not sure if that is more or less impressive than if I claimed to be the greatest writer in the history of this column.

West and Tenay talk about when they lost respect for AMW; amazingly it was when they turned heel. I wish TNA had a heel announcer sometimes, to offer an alternative viewpoint.

Fans chant, “Kill the Cowboy”, they are begging for illegal activities to be performed. These people are such thugs!

The babyfaces start off in control, but the tide turns when Harris goes after Sabin’s ankle outside the ring.

West complains about AMW working over the ankle. He claims the old AMW would’ve tried to beat them straight up. Curse these men for using a strategy to attack a weak body part, how dare they? It is all the fault of that no-good cheating scoundrel Jeff Jarrett.

Once again we’re back to the tried and true tag formula, the heels working over Sabin’s ankle, keeping him away from his corner, giving him brief hope spots before finally making the hot tag to Dutt.

I’d say Sonjay is a house of fire but in an effort to be creative, he is an abode of flame.

Sonjay uses his quickness to keep control. He even managed to reverse Harris’ Catatonic in to a nearfall. Sabin comes in and hits a tornado DDT on a steel chair that was brought in to play by James Storm. Crowd is definitely in to it.

James Storm has Sabin hurt outside the ring, driving his ankle in to the ring barrier. Shortly thereafter, Sonjay eats the Death Sentence for the pin.

After the match, the handcuffs come in to play. Dutt is handcuffed in the corner, and now they’ve got a chair. Storm wanted to use the beer bottle, but the 1-legged Chris Sabin finally makes the save with the aid of a steel chair.

Winners: America’s Most Wanted – 10:43
I liked the psychology of working over the ankle. The crowd was in to the match and wanted to see the faces win.

Thumb Position: Up, it was a good match with a clean finish, and you sure can’t say that a lot about TNA in 2007.

Impact: None, The match was fine but this wasn’t really a feud and AMW was back in the mix with 3D by the next show. Sabin and Dutt and Lethal were starting to form an alliance of x-division goofs at this point.

Borash is backstage with Jeff Jarrett. Jarrett guarantees that his equalizer and Gail will be enough to make sure he keeps the title. Monty Brown interrupts Jarrett, but Jarrett interrupts Monty’s interruption. Jarrett promises Monty the next title shot after he disposes of Christian Cage. Jarrett insists he never goes against his word, I’m not the type to call someone a liar, but he’s a 2-faced liar.

Next we see a video package for the Falls Count anywhere match between Rhino and Abyss.

Tenay promises that this is your anything goes, falls count anywhere, no disqualification match. I find that funny because I vaguely remember TNA booking a falls count anywhere match that ended in a DQ, it may have been on iMPACT in late 2006 and I’m certain Rhino was involved.

Match 5: Rhino Vs. Abyss

Rhino and Abyss had wrestled at Final Resolution and that match was won by Abyss. They wrestled on iMPACT and neither man claimed victory as a Gore put both men through the wall and that resulted in a no contest and this falls count anywhere match.

We don’t waste time getting to the weapons and outside of the ring. Nothing like starting off by getting straight to the point I always say. Well, I don’t always say it because that’d be kind of boring and repetitive.

David Eckstein is in the crowd, could that be a hint of things to come for 2007? Na, TNA isn’t smart enough to think that far ahead.

The fans sing the Abyss song, and I’ve never figured out what the deal with that is supposed to be.

Abyss sets up a stack of tables in the tunnel area. Rhino goes for a Gore but Abyss stops that with a big boot. The crowd boos because they wanted to see a cool spot. Abyss takes Rhino outside the building briefly and a baseball bat becomes involved. A Trash can is the next thing that Abyss uses in a way other than what it was intended for.

We’re back in the ring area and Abyss has a staple gun which Tenay helpfully reminds us is legal.

Abyss has yet another table that he is setting up. Mitchell gives the “Doomsday” signal. Abyss hits a chokeslam on Rhino through the table and that gets him a 2 count. Now Abyss goes for the thumbtacks, but before he can use them, he eats a Gore from Rhino for 2. Crowd chants, “This is awesome”, and I don’t necessarily disagree.

Now Rhino and Abyss are fighting up into the stands. They are busting through the side of the wall, and Abyss is using the piece of the wall as a weapon. I’m thinking of Pink Floyd right now and shouldn’t need to explain why, but for those that don’t get it, we’ve got another break in the wall.

Abyss is going to chokeslam Rhino through the tables, which happened to be under the break in the wall, Rhino blocks with a kick and then Gores Abyss off of the bleachers through the double stack of tables, and gets the pin. It looked good but was safer than you’d probably assume.

Winner: Rhino – 15:25
You know why I liked this match? It is the only match of its kind on this card, it is not sandwiched by a chain match and a casket match and a street fight, and it is the only weapons filled match on the show. It is a novel concept but sometimes less really is more.

Thumb Position: Up, a nice fun wild brawl that was as I said different than anything else we’ve seen on this show.

Impact: almost major, the feud was continued for another month, but this was technically the blowoff to the singles feud as at Destination X they were on opposite sides of an 8-man tag.

Borash is backstage with Samoa Joe. It was with this show that I realized that Samoa Joe could really cut good promos.

We go back to the arena, and Abyss is being attended to after the match. They replay the big finish. Abyss finally starts moving and the crowd starts to cheer. See if Russo did this, they would’ve cut away and not shown any replays. So I give them credit for trying to sell the importance of the spot.

Next up is a video package for the 3-way X-division title bout. The other reason I don’t recap the preshow aside the fact that they’re boring is that the video packages are repeated here.

Match 6: NWA X-Division Title – Christopher Daniels Vs. AJ Styles Vs. Samoa Joe

Joe defeated Daniels at Final Resolution when AJ threw the towel in on behalf of Daniels. Styles was ruled top contender, but Daniels disagreed so Larry Zbyszko declared we’d have another 3-way bout which was a rematch of there first one at Unbreakable 2005 on 09/11/2005. Also, at 2005’s Turning Point event in December, Samoa Joe initially captured the X-division title from AJ Styles. In other words their fates are intertwined.

Early sequences of the match involve all 3 men hitting moves on each other and breaking up pins and preventing each other from hitting moves on the third man. Nothing as great as the spot in the first 3-way where Joe and Styles take turns kicking Daniels until he yells out: “Stop kicking me!”

First person to be taken out is Styles, and then Joe goes to work on Daniels. Knife edge chops, running knee to the head and then the face wash. Then AJ attacks Joe and they have a brief exchange. Daniels tries to suplex Joe out of the ring, AJ runs and Joe ducks and AJ takes Daniels down to the floor. The 2 of them fight on the floor and Joe decides to have fun so he dives through the ropes on to both men. Joe tosses Daniels back in the ring to continue the punishment.

This may be my hearing playing tricks on me but I could swear that we had the crowd chanting, “This is Awesome”, followed by this 1 guy chanting “No it ain’t”. If so, that is so awesome that words just don’t do it justice and if not, one day this needs to happen.

Joe has pretty much been kicking the hell out of both guys for a majority of this one. AJ cuts Joe off from hitting a muscle buster

Daniels hits Joe with a vicious release German dropping him right on his head. A BME gets 2 for Daniels. Daniels is a foolish man as he yells out Angel’s Wings, thus telling everyone what he’s planning next including his opponent. Needless to say, he is unable to hit it. AJ is the next man to get a flurry of offense hitting both men with a series of kicks, and then a gutbuster for Daniels. That gets a 2 for AJ who then goes for the torture wrack, which is broken up by Joe.

AJ tries the Clash on Joe but Daniels cuts it off. Joe gets dropped on his head again and both Styles and Daniels make pin attempts. AJ finds himself on the top rope, but that’s bad news for him because Joe hooks him and hits the muscle buster and that my friends, is that.

Winner: Samoa Joe – 10:06
Not as good as the initial 3-way from Unbreakable 2005 but miles ahead of most anything else TNA produced in 2006 not involving Kurt Angle and Samoa Joe.

Thumb Position: Way up, Hey I’d happily watch this match over and over again without complaint.

Impact: Less than you’d expect from a title match with a clean pin, the feud went on for another month or so culminating with Ultimate X at Destination X.

Now we get a video package for the Team 3D Vs. Team Canada match including the fans deciding whom 3D should go after between the Canadians and AMW in an Internet vote.

Borash is with Team 3D. Brother Ray gets cheap heat by claiming the U.S. will kick Canada’s ass in Olympic hockey. Apparently, Team Canada has pissed off the entire United States. Ray says tonight there are 3 guarantees in life: Death, taxes and tables. He asks Team Canada to guess which is theirs but theoretically if they’re all guaranteed aren’t they all eventually going to go to Team Canada anyway? I put the early money on taxes.

Match 7: Team 3D Vs. Team Canada (Bobby Roode and Eric Young)

This match came about because of the role Team Canada played in the stupid finish to the tag title match at Final Resolution.

Everyone that usually watches these shows over here loves it when Eric Young is frightened by his pyro. The fight starts on the ramp which Bobby Roode is backdropped right through.

Crowd chants “USA” and “We want tables”, and Tenay helpfully tells that they weren’t chanting for death or taxes. I demand a “We want taxes”, chant right now that would be so great.

In order to show you how interested in this match I am, I’ve spent a good portion of the heat segment reading about the NFL’s pro Bowl which took place last night and I did not know that until last night. Best Pro Bowl moment ever was when Kevin Gogan of San Francisco and Neil Smith of Denver got ejected for fighting, that was more awesome than this match.

You know what snapped me back in to it? Mike Tenay talking about Eric Young using a camel clutch. I can safely tell you that D-von’s back was not broken and thankfully his ass was not fucked.

Ray finally gets the hot tag and I don’t want to say he is a house of fire so I’ll instead tell you that he was an apartment of inferno.

Ray suplexes Young off of the middle rope for 2, the suplex was not a setup for Ray’s own camel clutch. Roode broke up the pin.

A 3D was hit and not by the Canadians, and the pin was scored.

D’Amoore and AMW come in before 3D can use the table.

Question, why is it that whenever post match extra activities take place the timekeeper always repeatedly rings the bell? Does he really think that will get them to stop?

Ron Killings is the one who makes the save for 3D and that would lead to a match on Destination X 2006 which is not nearly as horrid as the 2005 version.

Winners: Team 3D – 13:12
This match had to follow the 3-way and well it was put in the death slot.

Thumb Position: In the Middle, it was ok but a bit of the whatever.

Impact: Mild, believe it or not this didn’t end the feud between these 2 teams even though 3D would be back wrestling AMW next month. It was weird as they really had 2 feuds going at once but not really since AMW and the Canadians were apart of Jarrett’s stable.

Don West and Mike Tenay spend a few moments to hype up the main event.

Borash is backstage with Christian Cage. Hey, that rhymes. Christian takes a long pause before starting to talk. He cuts a fired up babyface promo and will win the title because that’s how he roles. Oh, and he made fun of the way Jeff Jarrett dresses.

The video package that aired to open the show airs here as well.

Match 8: NWA World Heavyweight Championship – Christian Cage Vs. Jeff Jarrett

Sting had “retired” after the victory he and Christian enjoyed at Final Resolution and a top contender to the world title was needed. As Christian had won a #1 contenders match at Turning Point to end 2005 over Monty Brown, he was given the shot.

Earl Hebner is the referee, whom the announcers draw attention to, it seems that Earl has some controversial decisions in his past. I may have to investigate this, as I’m not really sure what they could be referring to when they say that. I think it had something to do with a series of 97 survivors, perhaps he was supposed to tape them but forgot to set the VCR. Rest assured I’ll find out and let you know later.

Now remember because it is important that you remember that anyone interfering in this match will be fired on the spot. I cannot tell you how important that is to keep in mind.

Even Dave Hebner, and Larry Zbyszko get introductions they come out with Earl.

Tenay says that Jarrett has been NWA champion for 2 and a half years of the 4-year history of TNA. It is a good thing he doesn’t obsess about holding that belt.

Borash does the boxing/UFC style intros and Earl Hebner gets a second introduction.

The match hasn’t started yet and the crowd is chanting, “Please retire”, at Jarrett. Sometimes, I love these people and this is one of those times.

After a prolonged stare down, the bell finally rings.

A few minutes in to the match, Christian’s wife is shown at ringside. Hmmm, kind of makes me wonder if there might be some sort of celebration coming soon.

Jarrett controls most of the early going and does so without crowd brawling. A key moment comes when Christian puts Jarrett in the figure 4, the crowd immediately chants, “tap tap tap”, and Gail helps Jarrett reach the ropes. Yes, Gail Kim interfered and West was wondering if it was really behind the referee’s back. The fans are on top of things and chant: “Fire Gail”. I can confirm that she was not fired, and that if she had been I could’ve found her a job.

Then it happens. Jeff Jarrett locks Christian in the sharp shooter. Christian insists that Earl not call for the bell. Now why would Earl do that if Christian hasn’t submitted? That’d just be a mean thing to do to screw a man over like that, and I can’t even begin to speculate why they’d consider Earl Hebner a likely candidate to do such a thing.

After another minute or so Christian has escaped the Sharp Shooter and hits the DDT for a nearfall. Shortly thereafter, Earl takes a pretty weak bump. Christian goes up top and Gail Kim again interferes. Jeff Jarrett hits a stroke off of the top rope. Jarrett goes for a pin but due to Earl’s ankle injury it only gets a 2 count.

Now Earl gets wiped out but good and Christian hits the Unprettier. Earl being out allows Slick Johnson to hit the ring and he counts a 2 for Christian.

Slick was going to DQ Jarrett for something so Jarrett just decks him. Gail brings in a chair but it backfires as Christian dropkicks it in to his face. Christian is now chasing Gail around the ring and he captures her. This allows Jarrett to crack Christian in the head with the guitar. Gail sweeps up the evidence and we still have no ref. Earl finally revives but Christian gets out at the last second.

Jarrett distracts the ref, Gail up top powerbombed off by Christian, Jarrett goes for the Unprettier, reversed by Christian who tries his own Stroke, Jarrett lands on his feet but Christian hits the Unprettier for the 1…2…3! As the crowd goes crazy over the fact that Jarrett is not the champion anymore.

Winner: Christian Cage – 16:14
I wish we had gotten more of a clean finish without as much of the Jarrett standard, but the visual of the fans all jumping in the ring at the end to celebrate was memorable. TNA would start the process of screwing it all up at the next set of TV tapings although if you wanted to argue that they started to screw up Christian’s title reign before he won the belt I wouldn’t loudly protest.

Thumb Position: Slightly up, it is hard to forgive all of the Gail interference when they made such a big deal out of it, but if she comes over later we can get started. The match was fine, and the ending visual was definitely cool if only for that fleeting moment.

Impact: Major, but not necessarily in a good way. Christian as champion would still play second fiddle to whatever Jarrett was doing. Combine that with the fact that Christian as a face just wasn’t going to work anyway, but I don’t blame them for trying, and you have a rather obvious failure on your hands. This was the beginning of that failure.

Overall Show Thoughts:
This was a pretty good show overall. It didn’t have the bad booking that plagues a lot of these shows, no really horrible finishes and some good wrestling action.

The Scoring:

Wrestling Quality: 8, only 1 clunker of a match and at least it was kept short.

Backstage Quality: 4, we had some good promos but I can’t forgive the big deal that was made about interfering only to see Gail interfere 6 times.

Crowd Heat: 7, they were a good crowd on this night, didn’t start “This is awesome”, chants 30 seconds in to matches and didn’t make me want TNA to leave Orlando and never return.

Announcing: 3, it was definitely not the best days for either Tenay or West.

Booking: 7, other than the nonsense in the main event we largely had clean finishes with a minimal amount of interference. There was no “What the hell were they thinking?” moment for me watching this show so that’s a definite plus.

IMPACT Analysis: 3, most of that score goes to Jarrett and Christian. The major problem I had with most TNA Pay Per Views at this time is that while I thought most were good, I didn’t think any of them felt like they ended anything or even that they made you want to know what was going to happen next. It’s funny because I’d give anything to have that be my only real beef with TNA shows these days, I’d gladly trade back up to this problem from where we are now.

Replay Factor: 8, overall I loved this show and would gladly watch it again.

Average: 5.7, I’ve rated 4 shows on this scale as of this writing and this has scored the best so far.

Is it worth buying the DVD? Yes, there is some good stuff here. It is hard to believe that the same creative team put together Final Resolution 06, which I hated so much, and this show, which I enjoyed so much.

iMPACT Analysis: TNA Against All Odds 2005

Welcome to the column that has been a tradition since January, the iMPACT Analysis. This month we’ll look at a show that has been a February tradition for just about as long, TNA’s Against All Odds Pay Per View.
We’ll have the 2005 and 2006 versions posted just in time to get you ready to suffe...er...enjoy this Sunday’s installment.

Worth buying the DVD? Asks if this DVD is worth the purchase or not.

Event: TNA: Against All Odds, 2005
Event Date: 02/13/2005
Event Venue: Universal Studios, Orlando Florida
Announcers: Mike Tenay and Don West, Shane Douglas and Scott Hudson backstage

I’m not touching the preshow bouts with a 10-foot pole, hey; even I have standards that I won’t sink below. But for those of you who just need to know the results…Thanks to ProWrestlingHistory.com for these and all match times.

Phi Delta Slam (Bruno Sassi & Big Tilly) beat Lex Lovett & Buck Quartermain when Tilly pinned Quartermain.
Ron & Don Harris beat Mikey Batts & Jerrelle Clark (3:12).
Join us next month for a show review you won’t want to miss including a match involving the 2 winning teams off of this preshow.

This, is TNA, Remember when we had wrestling?

“As dreamers we believe tomorrow brings a bright future”, and thus begins the video package. What’s the deal with all of these TNA video packages involving dreamers and dreams? Perhaps, it is because if they think they’ll ever be the top company in the world, they have put a lot of faith in dreams.

Anyway, the package focuses on 3 matches. The Ironman match between AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels, The Full Medal Mayhem match between Abyss and Jeff Hardy and the world title Kevin Nash vs. Jeff Jarrett bout.

Whoever writes the scripts for these video intros should put together movie trailers.

We’re now in the building and the pyro goes off. Hey, what would happen if that started a fire one day? Na, that could never happen.

Don West says you couldn’t fit another person in the building, oh, I bet that you could.

Shane Douglas is outside of Jarrett’s locker room. He claims that he can’t remember a world title match in years that has had more buzz than Jarrett/Nash. Sorry his memory sucks so bad. Larry Zbyszko comes out and says we’ve got a large legal battle going on, because those up buyrates more than anything.

Scott Hudson is outside of Nash’s locker room. Hudson claims that members of the Longest Yard cast are in the locker room, sure they were.

Match 1: Elix Skipper Vs. Petey Williams

Elix was coming off of a win at Final Resolution over Sonjay Dutt, while Petey Williams dropped the X-division title to AJ Styles on that same show.

Mike Tenay says the x-division was a hot property that established TNA. What a difference a couple of years makes then huh?

Tenay is already pimping Destination X for March and the return of Ultimate X after a mere 2-month absence. Oh, Destination X 2005 that will be quite the review I promise you.

Mike Tenay runs down Skipper’s title accomplishments in wrestling, but neglects to mention that he debuted on WCW Thunder under the name of Skip Over. You should never wonder why WCW went out of business.

Williams hits a slingshot Rana to the floor, which draws a “Holy Shit” chant. Then he takes Skipper back in and does the “Oh, Canada” spot. West says that Elix is looking to debut a new move tonight.

Skipper takes control with a suplex, an inverted suplex like move into the ropes and then a guillotine legdrop. Williams cuts him off and then prevents Skipper from doing his ropewalk Rana and that draws boos from the crowd. Skipper is in trouble but counters the Destroyer with a backdrop, tries the Play of the Day but Williams fights out.

Skipper goes for a springboard dropkick but Petey Williams avoids it. Skipper hits his new move, called Sudden Death by Tenay and picks up the win.

Winner: Elix Skipper – 7:58
This was fine, TNA used to know what kind of match to start a show with.

Thumb Position: Slightly up, it was a fun enough opener, not a classic or anything but as a match not a waste of time.

Impact: Mild, Elix would compete in Ultimate X at Destination X while Williams would move to the tag division for a few months.

We go to a video package for the next match, Kazarian and Shane Vs. B.G. James and Jeff Hammond. With this thrilling, and by thrilling I mean pretty boring package it is not hard to understand why the Jeff Hammond stuff meant nothing. For those that don’t know Jeff Hammond did some Nascar stuff of some sort and this was TNA’s plan to get publicity from the sports Universe and they failed.

Match 2: Michael Shane and Kazarian Vs. B.G. James and Jeff Hammond

This was Hammond’s first and thank God only wrestling match that I know of and want to know of. Shane and Kazarian along with Chris Daniels lost to the 3Live Krew including B.G. James at Final Resolution.

We’ve got annoying dubbed over commentary for this match because of the name Michael Shane.

If I don’t write a lot about this match, assume I think it sucks. If I do write a lot, you’ll know it sucks. Konnan does his usual intro and all I have to say is thank God for the heel turn.

B.G. modifies his intro, saying that he represents the rednecks and Hammond the race cars, for those too stupid to figure that out on there own and actually isn’t that 6 of 1 half a dozen of the other.

Crowd chants “Nascar sucks” and boos the babyfaces. Nice work, TNA. Way to understand the audience, toss another million in the vault. I’ll give TNA this though, they got better when it comes to the remixed audio as unlike during last month’s match, you can actually hear the crowd. Yes, so far that and a nice dive from Kazarian are the best things about this match.

Hammond is now the legal man and someone named “Boo” is awful popular with the crowd. Shane hits the superkick on his own partner is pulled out of the ring by B.G. James, and then Hammond drops the Pit stop Elbow on Kazarian for the pin. The Pit stop elbow makes the People’s Elbow look like the best finish ever.

Winner: B.G. James and Jeff Hammond – 5:33
This did nothing for nobody and got TNA no publicity. It was a failure in every respect.

Thumb Position: Down, stupid match, waste of time, horrid finish.

Impact: None, Kazarian ate the pin, and then went to the WWE for a short cup of coffee. Shane floundered for quite awhile, while 3LK started a feud with Team Canada and others.

Dusty Rhodes is backstage talking about some sort of lawsuit. Jarrett’s lawyer wants the stipulation voided that would prevent Jeff Jarrett from using a guitar. He also says he’s got a document that proves Jeff Jarrett has never used a guitar in the match. I’ve got a document that says I’m a trillionaire doesn’t make it so. Now for some reason Traci and Trinity are in the back and Trinity threatens the lawyer with things.

Now we go to a video package of the next match and it starts with Raven losing to Erik Watts and beating up referees. Dustin Rhodes comes out to save Cassidy Riley from a beating.

Match 3: Raven Vs. Dustin Rhodes

At Final Resolution the prior month, Dustin Rhodes defeated Kid Kash to end their short-lived feud while Raven lost to Erik Watts.

Roughly 30 seconds in to the match, a steel chair was involved.

Apparently, Raven was working on the ankle of Dustin. I say apparently because I really wasn’t paying attention. They actually turned this in to a straight wrestling match and it sucked. Raven wins with his feet on the ropes.

He attacks Rhodes after the match and locks him in a straight jacket. West was howling after the pin that Raven cheated. West calls for aid for Dustin Rhodes as Raven continues to attack and is drawing face heat from the crowd I might add.

After a few more minutes of this Cassidy Riley comes out and gets attacked for his trouble. If I was Rhodes and Cassidy Riley was the best help I could get, I’d be pissed. The crack TNA security finally comes out to break it up after about 5 minutes of post-match extra activity. If I ran a store of some sort, I’d never hire these guys.

Winner: Raven – 8:20
A straight match between these guys, and it blew goats.

Thumb Position: Down, this involved Raven and Dustin Rhodes, are you surprised?

Impact: mild, this feud was continued for another month, lucky me.

The lights go out in the building and we get a video package for Trytan. He’ll be on Impact this week the video says. Bet you can’t wait for my Trytan rant next month.

A video package airs for the world tag team title match. There’s something simple yet catchy about the Against All Odds 05 bumper music.

Match 4: NWA World Tag Titles – America’s Most Wanted Vs. Kid Kash and Lance Hoyt

America’s Most Wanted captured the Tag Titles from Team Canada’s Eric Young and Bobby Roode at Final Resolution, while Kid Kash lost to Dustin Rhodes and Hoyt was not on the card.

As AMW enters the ring, someone is screaming very loud, it’s like Melina or something but I’m guessing probably not as cute based on the fact she’s screaming for AMW.

Trivia, AMW defeated Kid Kash and Lance Hoyt to win the NWA world Tag Team titles on the first edition of iMPACT on Fox Sports Net. Use this note to make yourself money. Then you’ll have that over TNA as well.

Ok, I’ve always wanted to say this. Lance Hoyt sounds like a foot problem doesn’t it?

This match made me want to use the restroom, and I did not pause the DVD while I was gone because life is too short.

Basically, this match is tag formula. Heels got the heat on Storm and then he got a hope spot by getting his knees up on a frog splash from Kash. Harris got the tag, and they did the deal where it takes 3 clotheslines to knock Hoyt down. It breaks down to all 4 men in the ring. AMW Isolates Hoyt and get a nearfall, but that allows Kash to use a foreign object to get another nearfall. Kash teases handcuffs but that backfires and if you don’t know what happens from here, you haven’t seen a lot of AMW tag title matches. Although the first attempt at the Death Sentence fails because of course Hoyt is just too big. Don’t worry though as they eventually hit it for the win.

Winners: America’s Most Wanted – 12:25
There was nothing really wrong with this match.

Thumb Position: In the middle, it was ok and an improvement over the last match.

Impact: Mild, this ended the feud after a mere month. AMW was headed towards a teaming with 3LK against Team Canada at the next PPV while Kid Kash was not long for TNA and Lance Hoyt was a couple of months away from a face turn.

Shane Douglas is outside and he’s next to a car. He demands to know who’s in it and isn’t leaving until he finds out.

A brief video package for Full Medal Mayhem.

Match 5: Full Medal Mayhem – Jeff hardy Vs. Abyss

Jeff Hardy defeated Scott Hall at Final resolution and then was attacked behind by Abyss kicking off this feud.

Ok, the rules for this match are there are two envelopes hanging up and you have to use a ladder to retrieve them. One is empty, the other contains a contract for a world title shot and you win by securing that one. Understand? Well, if you do, explain it to your neighbor.

In the second match in a row we have the little guy has trouble getting the big guy off of his feet spot.

I want to say this about Abyss. Seeing him out here now without James Mitchell really makes me realize just how much Mitchell added to the Abyss character.

Announcers say that the winner will get his title shot on an upcoming iMPACT broadcast. I’ll bet he doesn’t.

Abyss sets up a stack of about 4 tables outside the ring. He teases a powerbomb of Hardy threw them but he avoids. As you’ve got tables, ladders and chairs everywhere Tenay helpfully mentions that this is all legal because this is full medal mayhem. Thank you, Captain Obvious.

They cranked up the spots including Hardy diving off the set onto Abyss through a table. Hardy is first to climb but he grabs the wrong envelope. Finish comes when Abyss whips Hardy over the ropes, and he’s meant to go through the stack of 4 tables but only hits 2. Abyss climbs up and grabs the contract.

Hardy over blowing the spot executes a temper tantrum outside the ring. The announcers claim he was upset about the loss but it is clear that’s not what it was.

Winner: Abyss – 15:21
This turned in to a nice stunt fest type of match and was the only one of its kind on this show so I’m fine with it.

Thumb Position: Up, it was fun and you get to see Hardy throw a temper tantrum and how is that not fun?

Impact: Minimal, the feud was continued for another month and Abyss never really got that title shot. If not for the fact the feud did continue, I’d say no impact.

Now we are treated to a video package for the next match. This was to be Scott Hall and Bobby Roode Vs. DDP and brown but Scott Hall had issues, I know you’re shocked, and Eric Young replaced Hall.

Match 6: Team Canada Vs. Diamond Dallas Page and Monty Brown

Team Canada had lost to America’s Most Wanted at final Resolution while Page lost in a match to Monty Brown to see who got a title shot at the end of the show, and Brown won that match but lost the title match to Jarrett. Got that/ Cause I’m not repeating it unless you go back and reread this in which case I guess I did repeat it.

I’ve got a crazy idea for Monty Brown. He should change his name to Marcus Cor Von, now wouldn’t that be awesome?

The Announcers claim that D’Amoore bought out Scott Hall’s contract for this match so he could insert Young and thus with a win climb back up the rankings in the tag division.

DDP comes out to his knockoff of his WCW music, which was a Smells Like Teen Spirit Knockoff in its own right.

Here is all you need to know about this match. Team Canada interfered quite a bit, it didn’t help them as DDP scored the pin. I guess it was DDP scoring the pin that wuld earn him a title shot at the Destination X show the next month. If you insist on knowing more about this match, buy the DVD.

Winners: Page and Brown – 9:43
Quoting Chief Wiggam: "Nothing to see here move along".

Thumb Position: Down, the definition of a whatever match

Impact: None, in fact I could almost go negative given what happened next month but I won’t spoil the surprise.

A video package airs for the Ironman match, and the package actually ends the DVD, don’t know what’s up with that. Switching discs now…ok, I’m back.

Match 7: NWA X-Division Title – Ironman Match: AJ Styles Vs. Christopher Daniels

Christopher Daniels teamed with Shane and Kazarian to drop the opening match at Final Resolution to 3Live Krew while AJ Styles defeated Chris Sabin and Petey Williams in Ultimate X to capture the X-division title.

Tenay claims in the X-factors that they hadn’t wrestled in TNA. However, this is most definitely wrong, as a match on iMPACT is what set this up. He of all people should know this having called the match, of course were that match not on the Daniels DVD I probably wouldn’t have known.

Tenay also in the X-factors actually says “Tonight, its not about weight limits its about time limits.” Ooo, Ooo, lets get it going then.

In the early moments of the match, you have both men going for a pin after nearly every move. I guess to establish that you need to accumulate pinfalls to win.

We get some nice back and forth between them both of them up to about the 10-minute mark. You can tell they know they’re going thirty because they don’t turn it on really until 10. Not that the first ten minutes is bad. Daniels was primarily working over the ribs of AJ Styles.

Daniels hits AJ Styles with the Angel’s wings, and well, lets just say…
First Pin: Daniels on Styles at 14:07

Daniels goes for another pin attempt to try and get a 2-pin lead but AJ kicks out. The next few minutes is Daniels taking and maintaining control of the match. He’s trying to score more pins while at the same time running the clock down.

With a little over 10 minutes to go AJ is able to get back on offense and goes for a pin but no dice.

Daniels gets a 2 off of a blue thunder driver, and Don West was calling it a 3 all the way. AJ hits the Pele a few seconds later, but AJ is unable to capitalize on it. West says you never see the Pele coming yet my friends and I used to see who could call it as it happened.

Daniels takes control, goes for the BME but AJ moves but Daniels lands on his feet. Angel’s wings by Styles on Daniels only gets a 2 count for AJ.

AJ would however, roll up Daniels for a pinfall just about a minute later.

Second Pin: Styles on Daniels at 23:58

Daniels busts AJ open by tossing him headfirst in to the steel outside of the ring.

Tenay says that Daniels realizes he can’t beat AJ out on the floor. So I guess you can’t be counted out in an Ironman match? Daniels is hitting AJ in the open cut. You may not be able to be counted out, but apparently a DQ is possible as both announcers protest that they don’t want to see anyone get Dqed.

Daniels with a STO but AJ is able to get out. Daniels hits a headbutt and blood goes flying. Less than a minute and a half is remaining in the match. Daniels attempts Angel’s wings but AJ is out on his feet. AJ starts hitting forearms and punches at a minute left. His period of offense doesn’t last long as he soon finds himself locked in the Koji Clutch.

A bloody AJ manages to hold on until the 30:00 Time limit.

Referee Andrew Thomas wants to call it a draw. Daniels gets on the mic and protests. He asks Dusty Rhodes for sudden death. He says he had Styles beat. Rhodes comes out, asks the crowd if they want sudden death and they respond in the affirmative.

Daniels gets another nearfall while West again declares that its over. He would not do well in the CARE preview prediction challenge I’m betting.

Daniels goes for the Super-hurricanrana but AJ counters and then he hit the Styles Clash for the win.

Third Pin: Styles on Daniels at 31:37
Winner: AJ Styles – 31:37
This was a really great match, and one of the few Ironman matches I can stand watching.

Thumb Position: Way up, Styles and Daniels work well together when not bogged down by completely wretched booking.

Impact: Large, this led to the Ultimate X match the next month and was for all intents and purposes the beginning of their feud which eventually included Samoa Joe.

Jarrett hears from his lawyer that he was unable to get the no guitar clause removed from the match.

The video package for this match contains Jeff Jarrett ranting about what Kevin Nash did in WCW. Nash and Jarrett have 2 different views of the belt. Nash says that the belt means more money to him and that’s all. Jarrett says it is the belt that pumps blood through his body. So Nash is crazy and Jarrett has no Heart.

The stipulation is if Jarrett uses the Guitar he’ll be Dqed and lose the title. Uh, how is that theoretically different than any other match? Especially since the title can change on a DQ, see Abyss/Sting for the precedent.

Match 8: NWA World Heavyweight Title – Kevin Nash Vs. Jeff Jarrett

Jeff Jarrett successfully defended the world title at Final Resolution against Monty Brown, while Kevin Nash had lost a match earlier in the night to determine Jeff Jarrett’s challenger on that show. Sound confusing? Welcome to TNA’s world.

There is something really awesome about Kevin Nash’s theme music.

Jeremy Borash delivers the Boxing Style introductions. Your referee is Rudy Charles, so I guess the loser can bitch and moan that it wasn’t Big John McCarthy.

Fun fact, I have a Kevin Nash ‘Big Sexy’ t-shirt. You can all resume hating me now.

I’m not sure what the crowd is chanting early in this match, but it kind of sounds like “Super Eric” and I know that’s not right.

Nash has been in control in the early part using his 3 moves of discomfort.
Now, with Nash still in control, guess what happens. If you guessed that there would be crowd brawling, its like you’ve seen a Jeff Jarrett NWA title match previous to this, or after this, or hell…this.

Jarrett now takes control and they’re near the Spanish table. Get this; Jarrett outsmarts everyone by using a cello instead of a guitar, slamming the cello against the knee of Nash. The Cello reminds me of the Dick Van Dyke show, God bless Mory Amsterdam.

If it were me, I’d have used a dulcimer but then I’m just crazy that way.

Jarrett is bleeding, again you’re surprised to hear that about him but just try and move on with your life. Jarrett is also working over the knees of Nash and is now going for the Figure 4. After a battle over that hold that lasts for a good minute, Nash is able to escape. Nash hits a sideslam for 2 and that should also come as a giant surprise, a side slam for Nash, I know what is the world coming too?

We’re back to the cello, and the ref stops Nash from using it. Nash goes for the Jackknife but the ref gets bumped in the process. Yes, a ref bump in a Jarrett match, what planet is this from? Nash executes a Jackknife on Jarrett on the cello.

Out comes a man, and its funny to watch the announcers try and tell us who he is without saying who he is. Tenay finally decides to say, the man formerly known as Billy Gunn. Nash survives the outside interference and now Sean Waltman is out to help Nash. Its like DX threw up on this show.

Formerly Billy is still being a pest and out comes B.G. James as Tenay says: “Group formerly known as DX”. Jarrett with a belt shot that gets 2. Jarrett hits the stroke and Nash kicks out yet again.

Nash goes for a chokeslam, but a low blow from Jarrett leads to another stroke and that leads to the pin.

Winner: Jeff Jarrett – 19:45
Ok, I know this was an overbooked mess with 3 people running in, a belt shot, and a cello involved, but for overbooked messes this was pretty good. There were some pretty good false finishes in this one.

Tenay implores us to not miss Destination X, and I tell you not to miss my review of that show. We’ll be asking questions like: “Was December to Dismember really that bad?” and “Are you sure we’re not really better off with Russo in charge?” But, that’s next month.

Thumb Position: Up, it’s not a giant up or anything but I enjoyed the match.

Impact: None, Jarrett moved on to other things, although this did set up Kevin Nash Vs. The Outlaw for Destination X in a match I’ll have to see for you to believe.

Overall Show Thoughts:
There is some good stuff on this show. It’s not a complete waste of 3 hours by any stretch of the imagination. Actually, wrestling wise nothing was really bad, just at the worst boring.

The Scoring:

Wrestling Quality: 6, only a few dull clunkers but other than that there was a lot of decent in ring action.

Backstage Quality: 3, the backstage stuff was basically the whole lawyer storyline which was illogical, none of the under card matches got promo time.

Crowd Heat: 4, I expected more but I will say they were in to the main event and the Ironman match and they also enjoyed the stunt brawl with Hardy and Abyss.

Announcing: 5, they didn’t say anything great but they weren’t really that dumb. I bust on West for always getting nearfalls wrong, but that’s a problem that goes well beyond his.

Booking: 5, nothing was booked to the point where it was awesome, but it wasn’t booked horribly like say Final Resolution of 06 or even the upcoming Destination X 05 show.

IMPACT Analysis: 2, not much here led to anything else.

Replay Factor: 5, I could watch this show again with no real problem, but it isn’t the first show I’d reach for if that makes sense.

Average: 4.3, this ranks it way ahead of Final Resolution 2006 and right under the 05 version of that event. You can see those reviews by clicking on the iMPACT Analysis label.

Worth Buying the DVD?: Well, you can find the Ironman match on other discs and that’s really the only match I’d consider a must see. The show really isn’t that bad overall though, especially compared to other much worse shows from TNA and WWE.
