Report: UFC and SpikeTV on verge of new deal

The news is from Multi-channel News

Spike wouldn't comment and UFC couldn't be reached for comment.

The part of this story that makes my head want to explode while at the same time makes me happy that I'll have content for the site is the part about Spike getting more live events.

If this goes down, then UFC is going to be getting a healthy sum of money. Sure, its not in the league of the NFL's TV rights fees but it isn't like anybody else is in that league either and to expect them to be would be foolish.

Golden State Battle Hits the Ring As Condors, Razorclaws Featured Monday On MyNetworkTV

Condors Remember Their Fallen Teammate, Leader Jeremy Williams; SoCal Coach Marco Ruas Battles Seattle Coach Maurice Smith in Bonus Superfight

NEW YORK, June 20, 2007- The International Fight League (OTC.BB: IFLI), the world’s number one professional mixed martial arts league, goes inside the bout between the Southern California Condors and San Jose Razorclaws, in the next episode of “IFL Battleground” on Monday, June 25, at 8 p.m. ET/PT (7 p.m. CT/MT). The bout was held in the wake of the tragic death of the Condors’ Jeremy Williams; the episode features an extended tribute to the star middleweight. “IFL Battleground” airs every Monday night on MyNetworkTV.

Among the six full bouts in Monday’s episode is the matchup between MMA legends and current IFL coaches Marco Ruas of the Condors and Maurice Smith of the Seattle Tiger Sharks. Ruas’ squad was also fighting a playoff berth as it took on Frank Shamrock’s Razorclaws at the packed Sears Centre in Chicago.

Additionally, the search for the next IFL Ring Girls continues, with audition footage of some contenders – and a few pretenders – from searches conducted in New York and Los Angeles.

Some of the matchups seen in the episode include:

Justin Levens (Philadelphia), one of Williams’ closest friends, who stepped in at middleweight, vs. the Razorclaws’ tough former Marine Brian Foster (Moreno Valley, Calif.)
Adam Lynn (Pittsburgh) of the Condors vs. Josh Odom (Tallahassee, Fla.) in a battle between two other former Marines
Unbeaten Antoine Jaoude (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) faces a tall order in veteran MMA heavyweight Dan Christison (Las Vegas), making his second appearance for the Razorclaws
Marco’s nephew, Rodrigo Ruas (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) looking for his first IFL win against welterweight Donnie Liles (Colorado Springs, Colo.)
Viewers can find their local MyNetworkTV affiliate at www.mynetworktv.com/local_stations.html.

The episode is the 12th in the “IFL Battleground” series, which has recently been renewed for the Fall 2007 MyNetworkTV lineup.

Top IFL Stars Shine On Friday Night On FSN

Jay Hieron, Chris Horodecki, Vladimir Matyushenko, Ben Rothwell Featured In “Meet the Stars” Special

NEW YORK, June 5, 2007- The International Fight League (OTC.BB: IFLI), the world’s number one professional mixed martial arts league, takes a look at some
of the circuit’s most exciting athletes, including Jay Hieron and Chris Horodecki of the Los Angeles Anacondas, Vladimir Matyushenko of the Tokyo Sabres
and Ben Rothwell of the defending champion Quad Cities Silverbacks in the latest episode seen on Fox Sports Net this week. The show debuts across the FSN
Regional Networks on Friday, June 8, at 11 p.m. in most markets.

Friday’s show features bout action and behind-the-scenes interviews with the four stars. Hieron, Horodecki, Matyushenko and Rothwell have been stalwarts
in the IFL, which concludes its inaugural regular season this month, with playoffs set for August and September.

Hieron, one of the league’s standout welterweights, is a master of quick finishes, with three of his four IFL victories coming in the first round, via three
different types of chokes. The New York native and Las Vegas resident has helped lead the Anacondas to a 3-0 team record and qualification for the IFL
playoffs. Horodecki, at 19 the youngest athlete in the IFL, is an explosive lightweight with an exciting style who has treated fans to some of the most-talked-about
fights in IFL history. The London, Ontario native’s February bout with the Silverbacks’ Bart Palaszewski has been talked about as an early candidate for
MMA fight of the year, and is among the action on Friday’s show.

The upstart Tokyo Sabres turned a winless 2006 into an undefeated 2007, and veteran light heavyweight Matyushenko from Belarus has been a major force in
that turnaround. Unbeaten in three IFL bouts and boasting an 18-3 overall mark, the well-rounded athlete came to the U.S. more than a decade ago with little
money and speaking no English but has utilized his talents to become one of the world’s best MMA stars.

Dubbed “The North Star,” Rothwell has been the IFL’s premier heavyweight since the league’s first event last April. His imposing physical presence is complemented
by quickness and flexibility usually seen in lower weight classes. His powerful high kicks and boxing skills are highlighted in the episode.

This week’s show is the first in a series of “Meet the Stars” programs that will highlight the up-and-coming stars of the mixed martial arts world this
summer. A preview of the program, along with the the IFL on FSN schedule, with dates and times on each Regional FSN network, can be seen at http://www.ifl.tv/TV-Schedule.html.
Viewers can also check their local schedule at http://msn.foxsports.com/tv/schedule.

The FSN schedule will continue each Friday, following the order of IFL events through the regular season. Regular event programming resumes on June 16 with
the Condors-Razorclaws matchup from last month in Chicago.

The 22 hours of original programming scheduled on FSN this year represents nearly 70% more than the 13 hours shown in 2006, when the network aired three
hours of coverage of the IFL Legends Championship in May and June and followed up with 10 hours of IFL World Team Championship action, September through
December.

The FSN coverage is in addition to the 22, two-hour episodes of “International Fight League Battleground,” seen on over-the-air MyNetworkTV nationwide every
Monday (8 p.m. ET/PT).

In all, a minimum of 67 hours of original IFL programming are scheduled to run on the two networks, which together reach more than 95% of U.S. television
households.

The upcoming schedule of matchups on each FSN debut date is as follows:

June 15, Condors vs. Razorclaws (Chicago, May 19)
June 22, Red Bears vs. Silverbacks (Chicago, May 19)
June 29, Sabres vs. Wolfpack (Everett, Wash., June 1)
July 6, Anacondas vs. Tiger Sharks (Everett, Wash., June 1)

Each of the nine regular season IFL events will consist of four teams – each with an athlete in all five weight classes competing. The team that wins the
best three of five match setup will be declared the team winner for the match, similar to collegiate and high school wrestling meets. The IFL also differs
from other MMA organizations in that the bouts are held in an oversized five-rope boxing ring with three, four-minute rounds, each designed to create the
most compelling in-arena experience for local fans.

Each of the 12 IFL teams for 2007 will compete in three regular season events; the teams with the top four overall win-loss team records will advance to
the semi-finals, which will be held on Thursday, August 2, at Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, N.J. The 2007 IFL Finals will then be held
at The Forum in Los Angeles on Saturday, September 15.

TNA TV negotiations next week

Dave Meltzer reports that a schedule video shoot for the Slammiversary PPV which was to be done on 06/06 has been canceled due to Jeff Jarrett and Dixie Carter being in Los Angeles for Television negotiations.

It is not known with whom these negotiations are being conducted but the deal between TNA and SpikeTV expires in the fall. If TNA left spike that would vault them past K-1 in the stupidest promotion of the year contest.

Please note, I'm not reporting or saying that they're going to leave or that's what this is about. I'm making a joke...that were to come true wouldn't be a joke anymore. I thought I'd point it out for the slow.

Clueless writer writes clueless article

Slate's Troy Patterson examines how USA became the #1 network on cable

Now anyone who reads this blog will know the answer. It is because of the presence of WWE and specifically Raw

Here is the extent to which the WWE is mentioned in the article.

And then we have the third and biggest of the cable networks trying, not quite paradoxically, to carve out a mass-market niche. The USA Network is the top-rated basic-cable channel in primetime and supposedly NBC Universal's most lucrative asset. It's kind of, like, hot. It's reclaimed WWE from Spike, and its numbers are up with young men.

The article praises shows that you and I don't likely watch some of which I've not even heard of and misses the point. Take WWE off of USA and that #1 rating goes away. Take off whatever the fuck else is on that channel, leave WWE and you've still got a strong contender for the top spot if not still outright number 1.

If you've got the number 1 rated show on cable that doesn't include the phrase "Monday Night Football", then you're off to a pretty good start. All I know is USA dropped from #1 when WWE was gone and now that its back, so is the top ranking.

Sometimes, the simplest answer is the most obvious. However, most of the time it doesn't make for the best story.

IFL Battleground to anchor My Network TV's Fall Schedule

As expected, MyNetworkTV announced its fall lineup yesterday, and “IFL Battleground” will remain in its prominent Monday night (8 p.m. ET/PT; 7 p.m. CT/MT)
position, with re-airs on Saturday nights. The show has been the driving force in MyNet’s increase in the male demo from previous programming as the fledgling
Network enters its second year. The details and format for the new fall shows will be announced in the coming weeks.

“IFL Battleground” remains the only MMA program to be seen in prime time on broadcast TV. “We are looking forward to expanding the audience and continuing
to improve our content as we move into our first playoff series and then on to our World Grand Prix,” said IFL co-founder and comissioner Kurt Otto. “FSN
and MyNetwork have given us a great platform to showcase our new brand, our world champion coaches and our great athletes to a large audience, and we are
very excited about the future.”

If a Tree Falls in the Woods...?

Ric has a review of Showtime's Road to Dynamit or whatever the fuck they're calling their hype special for that K-1 show that will lose more money than I've ever seen.

I've reprinted his comments behind the cut, due to the fact his greatness is not perminently archived.

Earlier tonight (8:30 PM ET), I managed to catch the premiere of Showtime's 'Countdown to Dynamite USA' (Brock Lesnar vs. Hong Man Choi).

It would've been nice to receive more than a few minutes of advanced notice), but that aside, I wanted to comment on a few things:

1.) Brock Lesnar sure looks thin.

2.) Rena Mero sure looks old.

3.) Why is Rena still using Mark's last name? I can understand her not wanting to use Brock's, but c'mon.

4.) I'm already sick of Gina Carano, and hope Jan Finney kicks her ass.

There are supposed to be five more of these half-hour specials, although I have no idea when they'll be airing. If you're interested, though, I can tell
you how to catch future airings of this particular episode:

Replays
Showtime: Friday, May 18 @ 12 AM & 11 PM ET
Showtime: Monday, May 21 @ 12 AM ET
Showtime Extreme (whatever the fuck that is): Sunday, June 3 @ 7 PM ET (Yeah, so what if this is after the pay-per-view?)

Yeah, this'll really make money.

I love how there's a replay of the special the day after the show that's perfect for this.

MyNetwork TV fall plans, IFL plays role in end to Telenovela programs?

This Article looks at the changing programming on MyNetwork TV and how the IFL on Monday didn't help the Telenovela programming on Tuesday because of how different the audiences are.

MNT is getting rid of Telenovelas all together and given that the network started out with nothing but telenovelas last fall...it marks a pretty serious shift in programming.

UFC Newsbits for 04/23

This is what you can see on TV from the UFC this week.

Spike TV has two Ultimate Knockouts specials tonight from 6-8 p.m., followed by a replay of UFC 70 head-to-head with
IFL and Raw running from 8-11:30 p.m. That means the tape of the Cro Cop knockout should go against the Raw main event.

Besides tonight, the UFC schedule for this week is Unleashed at 9 p.m. tomorrow followed by a replay of Ultimate Fighter at 10 p.m. The new episode of
Ultimate Fighter airs Thursday, followed by Unleashed with the Karo Parisyan vs. Nick Diaz and Georges St. Pierre vs. Frank Trigg matches. They are now
having every Friday night be tapes of old Ultimate Fight Nights from 10 p.m. to midnight with the Nathan Marquardt vs. Ivan Salaverry boring match as the
main event this week.

Also Cro Cop getting Knocked Out aired on Sportscenter yesterday. Odd they showed it the day after it happened, I watched Saturday night waiting to see if they'd show it and they did not.
