MMA News and Notes for 06/10

All of the good stuff, and there's not a lot, but a few things of note, are behind the cut.

MMAWeekly has a column looking at the Brazilian scene

It's a must win situation for the IFL's Reno Lions and John Gunderson this coming Saturday. It is also must make money and in a freakin hurry for the IFL.

Global War results here for the none of you who care. Although props to Gladiator Challenge for managing to localize a global war to Farmington, New Mexico thus sparing the rest of us the horrors of such a war.

Jens Pulver's reaction to episode 10 of the Ultimate Fighter 5 is here

Joe Lauzon's for the Boston Herald is here

Not much on a Sunday, but between this and the few posts prior it should be enough. Back later, if necessary.

MMA News and Notes for 05/30

Take a quick glance around the MMA world with me.

Mauricio "Shogun" Rua Interview

Much more behind the cut.

Marlon Sims Vs. Noah Thomas, the 2 men who brought such shame to Dana White and his house will open the TUF 5 Finale.

The IFL has averaged a 0.7 through the first 10 episodes. The ratings in men 18-34 are more than triple the MyNetwork TV average for that demo. The article compares this to the start of TUF on SpikeTV but neglects the fact that TUF benefited from something Battleground did not which is that it followed WWE Raw, the highest rated program on cable TV.

Kazushi Sakuraba has been cleared to fight on Saturday's Dynamite USA card. Great, 1 down like 15 more fighters to go!

Today's observer update had the following note on IFL stock.

--IFL stock collapsed today. At the moment of this writing, it was down from its $3.30 per share close yesterday to $1.28. There was a major sell-off of
1.6 million shares of stock as some institutional investors were not allowed to sell until today, and sensing a collapse, they wanted to at least recover
some money before the stock goes down farther. Another reason is the company is likely to issue new shares in an attempt of a second round of financing,
which would also dilute the value of the stock. This actually should have been a good time as MyNetwork TV announced yesterday the IFL keeping its Monday
and Saturday night at 8 p.m. time slot for the fall season. This was expected as in their upfront presentation weeks ago they had already told advertisers
IFL was staying.

TUF 5's Joe Lauzon is profiled by UFC.com

Get to know Tokyo Sabre's fighter Savant Young

Brock Larson Destiny Delayed, not Denied

Urijah Faber calm in the eye of the hurricane

Max Kellerman interviews Urijah Faber.

Brian Stann faces Craig Zellner on versus

David Loiseau is off July 7's Steel Cage Promotions card but Wes Sims has been added and will face Chris Guillen in a rematch of their bout on Art of War 2, May 11 in Austin.

I'll probably be back with more later.

Joe Lauzon recaps TUF 5 Episode 5

read it here

There are a lot of people related to this show giving their thoughts in online articles including Jens Pulver for www.Insidefighting.com but Joe's are my favorite.

He's so matter-of-fact about what went on that it is refreshing.

Friday afternoon MMA News and Notes

First, Wandering Euan will have a report on UFC 70 sometime tomorrow, of course given that he says he will...you might not want to hold your breath on it. However, report from Euan or not, I am going to post spoilers because like it or not, it is news. If you don't want the event to be spoiled, nobody will stand over you with a gun to your head making you read them, and if someone does do that well...nice knowing you.

I will also have some kind of thoughts on the show as it airs on SpikeTV. If something should happen to Euan it could be delayed round-by-round coverage, but if not it will just be short form thoughts.

Also, there is a chance of some live play-by-play of tomorrow's Cage Rage event which you can see on ProElite.com but I'm not going to promise it.

As another reminder, you can predict the outcomes of the UFC 70 bouts, all 10 of them, here all you need is to register for the board.

Anyway, on to the rest of the news.

Here's a predictions column no where near as cool as our CARE podcast.

here we have a look at the 6/22 Strikeforce/Elite XC show.

Here is the official announcement of UFC 72 in Northern Ireland.

A look at the ratings trends for episode 2 of Ultimate Fighter are right here

I mentioned Cage Rage earlier, and I can't remember if I've linked to this or not but here is a preview for tomorrow's event. Note that Bob Sapp is out and Tank Abbott is in. You can get more on that story by clicking here

Fabricio Werdum fears not the Octagon

Joe Lauzon blogs the most recent TUF episode Look, Gabe Ruediger's colonic actually happened, lets just accept it and move on.

Another cast member weighs in only this man is a coach. Jens Pulver's reaction to episode 3

Now you can find out why they call Michael Bisping the Count.

Underdogs are ready to roar at UFC 70 I call it the last yelp of death. Realistically, how many dogs roar?

The Orange County Register Examines the UFC 70 conference call

here's a report from yesterday's UFC 70 press conference.

Another UFC picks column not as good as our podcast now, I know what you're thinking and yes I am truly the most awesome man to ever live. How kind of you. But, you are also wondering why if these are inferior works to our own do I bother providing a link? It is one thing for me to claim superiority, it is another to prove it. Plus, there's no shame in being inferior to us, the list of people that fits that description is longer than you'd think. So its not that these are bad columns, they're just misfortunate enough to have been written at a time where we exist. Understand now?

A look at the Brazilian scene and A look at Canada titled MM-Eh! Ok, thumbs up for that title.

A preview of UFC 70's Undercard it lacks the caring touch.

Andrei Arlovski wants to be champion again and I want him to thank his sponsor

The last item I think I'll leave you with because I'm tired is the UFC 70 preview from Fox Sports. I don't often link to FSN but Dave Doyle does do good work.

Well, that should give you enough reading material to keep you busy during the time leading up to the show.

Early Saturday MMA News and Notes

Time to run down a few articles of interest.

Go behind the cut for the good stuff.

David Avila of MSNBC notes that Matt Serra is on the rise in UFC after beating Georges St. Pierre and winning the Welterweight title.

NBC Sports has a video of Matt Serra's homecoming.

Next up, we get a Q&A with Joe Rogan from Hollywood.com

It is week 2 of Joe Lauzon's 'TUF' commentary and some good insite on the second show.

Speaking of episode 2, Noah Thomas talks about leaving the show.

Serene Thio of MSN notes that Underdogs reign supreme at UFC 69

Dennis Siver is looking for a welterweight war with Jess Liuadin at UFC 70. I've got a comment on this but will save it for the roundtable.

Fedor is ready to face Matt Lindland on Saturday's Bodog show. I don't know what time this starts, or how much it will cost only that I'm not ordering it.

Sherdog does actually preview of the event.

They also have an interview with Eric Pele regarding his fight with the other Emelianenko.

You can see the results of Friday's IFL event

According to GracieMag.com says that pride orphans are looking for new homes.

The site also looks at UFC 72 in Ireland.

UFCJunkie.com reports that Din Thomas will face up and coming lightweight Jeremy Stevens at UFC 71

I've done enough for now, back with more later.

MMA News and Notes: 04/12/2007

Yes, I'm awake now.

UFC.com profiles Ultimate Fighter 5's Alan Berube AKA last week's loser.

Oh, you bet I've got more.

The Boston Herald has an article from Joe Lauzon looking at episode 1 of Ultimate Fighter 5 Its a good read and he'll do this every week.

Georges St. Pierre is taking his loss to Matt Serra in stride.

Serra meanwhile, is just enjoying the ride

Serra was also interviewed on Wednesday's Between the Ropes

Next we've got a more in depth examination of the ratings for the season premier of Ultimate Fighter 5

This article calls for A governing body in the United Kingdom.

We've got an article looking at Ryan Schultz of the IFL's Portland Wolfpack.

Fox Sports will air Best Damn Fight Night this Friday, and if that falls through they'll just show the New York Pitbulls Vs. Portland Wolfpack match from the IFL in its place.

Joe Sampieri is ready for his IFL debut and I'm ready for the flood of people asking: "Who"?

Jamal Patterson will rematch Matt Horwich in a contrast in styles I'll give the IFL this much, the team format does allow for personal rivalries to form, if the league can last long enough for it to matter. You could see a match take place more than once a year depending on playoffs and such.

It's reported that UFC 72 has a official location

Former girlfriend of Chuck Liddell set to play Anna Nicole Smith in a movie that starts shooting next week.

Are Tito Ortiz and Jenna Jameson MMA's Power Couple?

UFCJunkie.com has a note onforgotten Ultimate Fighter Cast Member Noah Inhofer He who is best known for leaving the show for a girl, even though he had a ticket punched to the semifinals.

Also it's being reported that UFC Newcomer Thiago Silva will fight at UFC 71

MMA's newest star Sokoudjou has a dream and it is one that can easily be achieved given his rising fame.

The Houston Chronicle's Steve Sievert had an interesting chat with Dana White after UFC 69.

That should hold you for an early morning.

UFC Newsbits

You can access the latest column of Michael Bisping by Clicking Here

The Boston Herald looks at TUF 5 participant Joe Lauzon and they also have quotes from Liddell and Jackson from a release announcing their fight. Jackson seems to be uncharacteristically laid back at least to me.
